Dave,

Just listened to your 2 tunes: Syzyky and Veldt.

(For me who lives in Estonia downloading music from MP3com takes ages.

That's why I "prefer" to listen to shorter tracks first).

Anyway, I liked both of them. Sound simply great. Especially Syzyky. It's a real (how they say this in English...) smoker!

By the way, what synthesizer is capable of making such a killer bass sound? Also what sampling CD(s) did you use in Veldt?

Regards,

Vladislav

To arseny,

I listened to most of your songs, and I've noticed a common thread. you are very good at developing the accompaniments. Instead of remining static throughout the song, your accompaniments develop through the use of changing rhythms and tone colors. You have a good ear for orchestrating the keyboard and percussion parts. Great Work!

Spacebo, moyi droog!

That is a QS8 - the sounds on that piece all come from the VIntage synthesizers QCard - that piece of music is actually the autodemo that I wrote for that card.

That is a K2000.

Thank you for your kind comments! I am glad that you liked the music!

As probably the only rap fan in the forum, I gotta say something. That was phat! The soulful singing on the hook was rather ill. The guitar at the beginning was incredible as well. I would have snapped the snares a little more and added a bass guitar towards the end, near the slamming synth outro. The lyrics were entertaining, but I felt that they were not as introspective as you described. Definitely more funk than rap and definitely more entertaining than not.

Or maybe I'm wrong and really went nuts??? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/mad.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gifhttp://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/mad.gif

By the way if You want to find this out and tell me what You think - it's called "Squirrel" and You can listen to it on my mp3.com page http://www.mp3.com/arseny

Arseny,

Your "Squirrel" is an amazing little ditty.

Its theme sounds funny indeed and makes me smile wide http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I find myself thinking of cartoons when I listen to it!

Great sweeping pad (what synth makes this?), nice groove (is it programmed or did you use some sampled loops?), tasty arrangement all around.

By the way, the bassoon-like sound in the background is a very nice touch!

Cool! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/cool.gif

Thanks for this nice comment...!

Sweeping Pad is called "JD-800 Strings" - and it comes from E5000, yeah loops were used, but with some kind of creativity - there are 3 of them - layered and filtered... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Guys,

I'd like to hear what you guys think of the track 'Shade' at:

http://www.mp3.com/driftingthrough

...my first time playing a REAL B3 (second half of the solo)

I only had time to download one of the tracks posted here so far:

Steve LeBlanc, I checked out 'Wonderwhy'. Cool stuff, love the sparseness (is that a word?). Great bluesy piano. I think some minimal percussion would be really cool too.

Checked it out........good jam band groove and a nice solo. I kind of wish the drummer hadn't stepped over you at the end. The difference between that kind of tune and funk is simple though......in funk, everybody has got their own part of a big poly-rhythmic thing, and the rhythm is staggered in time, like your riff starts off where the guitar lick ends or is staggered with it, something like you hear in trad jazz. Everyone has a different part, with say, everyone taking turns hooking up with the drums......the parts play against each other. Jam bands tend to share the same basic groove. Within that they do other things, but that kind of bouncy beat, with everyone more or less sharing one clave pattrern (your drummer implied it) is typical. I think you did a good job, but its not my personal favorite type of groove. Obviously its hugely popular, partly cause its easy to dance to, accounting for the huge success of StringCheese, Widesprerad Panic, or course Phish. Oddly enough the orignator of the jam band thing, the Grateful Dead, played closer to a country feel, although they would cover Iko Iko, and Bo Didley, too.

Your first track on there was a really thinly concealed All Along the Watchtower-- its better to hide your roots a bit more, or at least save them for the bridge.

Good luck in your career. Yours truly in funk.

Thanks for checking it out guys...

Bfunk,

I thought about percussion too.

MojoSaur,

If you want to hear some Funk that's more true to form, our old tune "We Have The Power" is close, you can hear it here: JamFree at Artistlaunch .

I'm really busy right now but I promise I'll listen and comment on both of you guys music before the weekend.

Peace,

Steve

Mojosaur,

Thanks for the comments. The band has since parted ways, I just wanted to hear what you guys thought of the keys. Glad you liked the solo.

And BTW, I just said I LISTEN to funk, I never said I could actually PLAY it http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I always considered that tune more of a blues number.

I agree on the song "Shade". A little to much white-elevator-music-funk for my style. I listened to the "We have the power", and well not closer to my style of funk but still, a little like "Rage against the machine"-feeling there.. just add a little more of distortion and guitars and your there http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif.

, anyway, well played, sounds like you've been playing a while (coming from a total amateur).

B, While I hear what the other guys are saying about the "hippy funk" groove, sounds to me like this was a pretty happening band. I checked out a couple of tunes, and what struck me was a quality that seems to elude so many of the bands in that genre: strong and prominent melody, nothing too quirky or clever, but strong vocal melody right up front, which is one thing, I think, that distinguished Blues Traveller from so many of their peers.

My home area, (somewhat upstate NY, New Paltz/Woodstock area), was quite a hotbed of the new jam band movement for a while, with bands like moe, God Street Wine, Moon Boot Lover, Ominous Seapods drawing big crowds in the local clubs (kinda like Wetlands north). And while I must also opine that it's not my thing, I will give those bands credit for raising a lot of grass roots interest in quality of musicianship and improv chops. Seems to me their failings were more often in the songwriting dept. But I'm just rambling now. BTW, where jam band meets avant minimalism, ala Medeski, Martin, and Wood, and recent John Scofield albums, that's where I get interested.

The moral: good work. I bet that band had a damn good time and played to very receptive audiences.

BFunk - I listened to your tune months ago & thought it was a great tune. I thought it was such a great tune I actually downloaded it. This is the type of material a good produce/arranger could turn into a hit. Great songwriting. It tells a story. The Black Crowes didn't write Hard to Handle. As some else said, clever but not too clever. The B-3 doesn't sound real except in the smears. The notes sound real digital. The key click is too consistent. Maybe the recording did that. It may be Hippy funk jam band blues tune but a great example of it. Not meaning to shit on soundmen, but those people that can play, play. Those that can't do sound. Those that can, write cool tunes. Those that can't criticize.

Hi !

Just in case you're interested on listening this.

I am currently producing a Mexican Dance Artist named "El Chan". His style is Latin/Dance music.

You can try the first DEMO release at:

http://trax.iuma.com

... just at the right of the main picture.

The song is called "EL CHAKA CHAKA" (Shake-Shake). A mmtss-mmtss-mmtss dance song with a latin taste. For easy listeners only.

All of the other tunes (with the exception of "The B Side Wins Again REMIX" from PUBLIC ENEMY for the www.slamjamz.com project) are of my band, TRAX.

Thanks in advance to the possible visitors.

Listened to 3 cuts quickly before I had to go. You're quite a player. The 1st cut I liked how the thing held together although it was loose. I liked the organ/blues thing a lot. Really nice work!
