  2. Checked it out........good jam band groove and a nice solo. I kind of wish the drummer hadn't stepped over you at the end. The difference between that kind of tune and funk is simple though......in funk, everybody has got their own part of a big poly-rhythmic thing, and the rhythm is staggered in time, like your riff starts off where the guitar lick ends or is staggered with it, something like you hear in trad jazz. Everyone has a different part, with say, everyone taking turns hooking up with the drums......the parts play against each other. Jam bands tend to share the same basic groove. Within that they do other things, but that kind of bouncy beat, with everyone more or less sharing one clave pattrern (your drummer implied it) is typical. I think you did a good job, but its not my personal favorite type of groove. Obviously its hugely popular, partly cause its easy to dance to, accounting for the huge success of StringCheese, Widesprerad Panic, or course Phish. Oddly enough the orignator of the jam band thing, the Grateful Dead, played closer to a country feel, although they would cover Iko Iko, and Bo Didley, too. Your first track on there was a really thinly concealed All Along the Watchtower-- its better to hide your roots a bit more, or at least save them for the bridge. Good luck in your career. Yours truly in funk. This message has been edited by mojosaur on 07-19-2001 at 05:10 PM
