RIP Mr. Betts and thanks for the wonderful music. I've played so much of his music through the years. He wrote songs that are now classics and was an amazing guitar player in his prime. My first concert was The Allman Brothers at the Nassau Coliseum in 1974 with Dicky on guitar. That concert was a huge inspiration for me. I remember the first time I heard Dicky was when a friend told me to check out this new band called the Allman Brothers. It was around 1970 and he played Don't Want You No More / It's Not My Cross to Bear. The 12-year old me was so blown away and I still am!

Yeah, I'm with you on that. He's an excellent B3 player and works it into a lot of the music beautifully. Last night's show was particularly good!

Best Hammond clone dry into a Ventilator?
Al Quinn replied to MrVegas's topic in The Keyboard Corner
I've had an SK Pro for three years and a Ventilator II for longer. The SK Pro sim sounds so good I've never felt the urge to try the Ventilator II with it; same goes for the HX3 Expander Module. I'm hanging on to the Ventilator II because I still use it with the dual-manual Mojo. -

Two-manual clone wheels. How portable are they? Which one to buy?
Al Quinn replied to adamcz's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Yeah, I only use my dual manual Mojo on organ trio gigs. Otherwise, I bring the SK Pro 61. -

I have that case too. Works great! -

That’s a nice option which wasn’t available when I bought my dual manual Mojo. -

I have a Mojo dual manual that I’ve used on many organ trio gigs. I never hated moving it. Weight wise it’s at about my upper limit but that because I’m in my 60’s. I wouldn’t flinch if I was 50 or younger. -
Work in an excerpt from Moonlight Sonata. Could be a good intro into another song.

Let's hear it!!! Post your music here!

Beautiful Dave! Great tune and wonderful performance on an amazing instrument! -
Yep, I was at that Newport Jazz Festival. It was amazing! As I recall Brecker played again the next day with Herbie Hancock’s group, but I wasn’t there for that. I didn’t realize they played at Iridium. That must have been awesome. Cool club — I’ve played there a few times. Really nice piano.

My favorite. Saw him so many times; sometimes I was lucky enough to sit just a few feet away (i.e., Fat Tuesdays in NYC with Kenny Kirkland on piano). Saw him with the McCoy Tyner trio at the Newport Jazz Festival. Always mind-blowingly great. The album with McCoy is one of my favorites. His session work on pop recordings is incredible as well. I love the solo he plays on Paul Simon's Still Crazy After All These Years and his solo on Donald Fagan's Maxine is as good as it gets!

OT: My tale of woe! A piano near-horror story.
Al Quinn replied to cedar's topic in The Keyboard Corner
That’s a frightening tale. I remember that beautiful piano well. For what it’s worth, I learned somewhere along the line that the wheels on my C3 are not adequate for rolling the piano around. I was told they put too much force on the legs. So, I replaced the wheels with small dolly’s and never had a problem. This pic shows the small dolly’s. -
Keyboard choices for iPad: am I missing something?
Al Quinn replied to Mark Zeger's topic in The Keyboard Corner
I've been using keyboards with bluetooth midi. They work great with the iPad and, of course, there are less wires. I mostly use a Krog MicroKey Air 61 and sometimes use a CME Xkey Air 37 and/or 25. I think these keyboards can be used wired as well but I haven't done it myself so I can't say for sure. -
How to get the Brecker Brothers gig? Play like George Whitty. Masterful in and out playing with explanations. https://youtube.com/watch?v=UGvocgGXcAs&si=qPFcAymx-RAHx6II
