  1. I heard Amaro Freitas at Newport last month on the recommendation of fellow forumite David Ryshpan. His was among the best sets I saw over the 3 days. I’d highly recommend digging into his album Y’Y.
  2. Dear J. Dan, What is the problem? Regards, Ray’s Pizza Famous Ray’s Pizza Original Ray’s Pizza Famous Original Ray’s Pizza World Famous Original Ray’s Pizza https://biteeatrepeat.com/2023/12/15/new-yorks-mystery-of-rays-famous-pizza-my-review-i-track-down-the-original-rays-now-prince-street-pizza/ In a related story: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/lady-a-anita-white-lawsuit-dropped-1235085535/amp/
  3. My daughter & I saw a Keith solo concert in Carnegie Hall maybe 15 years ago. We were in the dress circle front row and were tense we’d make a sound. It was a brilliant performance with 3 encores. it was snowing that night and the sound of flakes on the roof probably bothered him.
  4. In addition to the previously noted My Song album with “Country”, the Keith Jarrett album that completely hooked me is Belonging with the European quartet. It’s a top 5 album for me. In the early 80s, I saw the Pat Metheny Group play “The Windup” and I had to learn more about Jarrett. Also this:
  5. I first heard the joke when the Buffalo Bills were terrible. “I left 2 Bills tickets in my car. Someone broke in and left 2 more.”
  6. I left a Roland keyboard amp in my car overnight. Someone broke in a left me another one. Stolen gear isn’t funny.
  7. I’ll see Glasper’s Dinner Party with Terrace & Kamasi close out Day 2 at Newport in a few weeks. Always killin’. He was either born here in Rochester before growing up in Houston or his family is from here. Maybe 15 years ago, he played here and the audience was maybe 30% family!
  8. The brilliant Wycliffe Gordon on soprano trombone (or slide trumpet) on Louis Armstrong’s “Swing That Music”.
  9. They are here tomorrow (6/3). Don’t have tickets but it’s not sold out.
  10. My friend Dave Chisholm created this book along with Chasin’ The Bird about Parker’s time in California and Into The Blue, a jazz fantasy commissioned by Blue Note. Dave is immensely talented. I own a signed print of this Monk drawing. He also did the artwork for a Dave Douglas & Joe Lovano album.
  11. Re: “Next Time I Fall In Love”, allow me to segue to its writer, Bobby Caldwell. Love his music. His album Heart Of Mine generated hits for Cetera & Grant, the title cut for Boz Scaggs, and “All Or Nothing At All” for Al Jarreau. Those are 3 of the first 4 songs on the album!
  12. I bought tickets for October the minute the presale started. I saw the 80s KC quartet a few times. That band packed a wallop! Plus, the Levin Brothers play our jazz festival in June.
