    Re: “Next Time I Fall In Love”, allow me to segue to its writer, Bobby Caldwell. Love his music. His album Heart Of Mine generated hits for Cetera & Grant, the title cut for Boz Scaggs, and “All Or Nothing At All” for Al Jarreau. Those are 3 of the first 4 songs on the album!

    I bought tickets for October the minute the presale started. I saw the 80s KC quartet a few times. That band packed a wallop! Plus, the Levin Brothers play our jazz festival in June.

    Today would have been the 75th birthday of Michael Brecker, of blessed memory. It’s reasonable to say he’s the second most imitated tenor after Coltrane. Chris Potter said because Brecker was so oftener copied, he’d never accept staying musically stagnant. He’d purposefully practice to move to the next place in his evolution. How do you pick 1 recording to represent Brecker? You can’t though this is a very good one.

    I have small monitors connected to a Bluetooth amp or will use a headphone. It’s more than adequate for what I’ll be doing.

    It’s odd that most controllers that are likely compatible with iOS don’t include that in the specs. Definitely won’t need audio back to the controller.

    Looks like the Apple AV adapter, rather than the camera adapter, will connect USB-A from a keyboard to the iPad USB-C. It’s $70. Even with that adapter, something like an Arturia KeyLab or M Audio Oxygen doesn’t appear to support iOS devices, only OSX. Is that right?

    Is it directly iPad compatible? When I searched the SW site for iPad keyboard controllers, Keystage wasn’t among the results. It looks good, however, $599 is more than I expected. Hoped to be under $300.

    I want a simple keyboard controller that directly connects to an iPad (USB-C). Prefer 49 full size keys but would take 37. I would be using it as a sketch pad for arranging ideas. I did what seemed like extensive searches, only came up with an iRig keyboard (37 key only), & would like options. I thought I’d find something iOS friendly from Arturia, M Audio, Novation, etc. but nothing. Am I missing something?

    Maybe 15 years ago, Ingrid Jensen told me she just recorded Infernal Machines and I should get it when released. Love that album! I think his most recent is his best since that debut.

    I care most about the jazz categories. My only disappointment was in the large ensemble Grammy. The music of Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society moves big band repertoire forward from the foundation of Gil Evans & Bob Brookmeyer. The Grammy voters do what Grammy voters do and gave the award to the Count Basie Orchestra album of blues with a slate of guest vocalists. While the Basie album is very good, Argue’s “Dynamic Maximum Tension” continues breaking new ground and was more deserving.

    This ^ all day My oldest daughter was a trumpet performance major in college. When a highly esteemed, British trumpet player announced a performance near her, I got my daughter tickets as a gift and, with 1 email, arranged a lesson with the artist. If you or your son reached out to Satriani and/or Vai, I’d would be shocked if they didn’t agree to meet him. Not sure asking for a lesson is pushing things.

    I have an expensive trumpet and planned to ship it to its builder for routine maintenance. FedEx wouldn’t insure it in transit for more than $1,000 so my insurance agent sold me replacement value coverage for around $90/yr. Maybe 18 months later, the horn fell onto a hardwood floor and was damaged. I worried about whether it could be repaired. The builder was able to fix it perfectly and the insurance covered everything including round trip shipping with $0 deductible.

    Though James Francies isn’t exclusively playing organ, he does here with Pat Metheny’s Side Eye trio. I’ve also see Francies with Chris Potter. Excited to hear what he’ll do next.

    48th was Manny’s, Sam Ash, Alex, Rudy’s, We Buy Guitars, and I believe one other store. There also was a brass store on a 2nd floor somewhere on the block where I bought my first (illegal) Real Book. On 46th, you had Giardinelli for brass instruments and Pro Percussion. On Broadway and 50th, Colony Music had books & sheet music for pop/rock, jazz, and Broadway. Patelson’s on 56th near 7th had printed classical music.

    Note on B&H: closes early on Fri, not open Sat. I believe the website is offline on Saturdays. The owners are Shomer Shabbos. Saturday, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that they don't work, they don't drive a car, they don't fucking ride in a car, they don't handle money, they don't turn on the oven, and they sure as shit don't fucking roll! Shomer Shabbos!

    If anyone cares, his horn is a Schagerl Raven (which might now be called Raweni). It has rotary valves common on trumpets in Europe but they operate with vertical pistons rather than like a French horn. You can’t play a rotary valve trumpet one handed. 😁
