  1. Around 15-20 years ago, I turned my time & attention away from keyboards & guitar towards trumpet. My last keyboard gear purchase was a Roland XV3080. Now I have reverse GAS: I want to sell everything. I’ve just been lazy listing it all. When I returned to playing trumpet full time, I started buying horns. A fantastic flugelhorn, another Bb, an Eb/D, and old cornet for $75. In 2015, I bought my dream horn (used) and haven’t bought another instrument since. I’d say my GAS is done or maybe it’s just dormant.
  2. Blanchard plays those long upward scoops into notes like at 1:52. You immediately know it’s him.
  3. Shouldn’t Michelle be holding major newspaper front page for Tues 6/13?
  4. Great use of a jingle or greatest use of a jingle? FYI You’ve heard Edd Kalehoff’s music if you’ve watched TV in the past 50 years.
  5. Just saw this in my FB feed
  6. I live 5 minutes away from Oak Hill. I’ve played the championship East Course (maybe 15 years ago) and the West Course. I watched at home. Didn’t want to deal with remote parking & shuttles, crowds, etc. If you want to see the action, TV is the only way to watch everything. The downside of TV is losing the sense of how far the pros hit a ball. A 300 yard drive in the fairway is unbelievable. If you go to the event, you either need to pick 1 or 2 holes to spend the day or, if you move around, you’re up against crowds moving around. If you have access to a suite with food, drink, and bathrooms, that’s the way to go. I don’t know if these items made the national coverage: Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen & Von Miller hung at Oak Hill all week. Allen recently became a member at the club. The Bills training camp is maybe a mile away during summer. Rory McIlroy’s wife is from Rochester and her family is here. They’re Oak Hill members and now Rory is, too. It’s impossible not to love the Michael Block story. His emotions showed in every interview. For some dinners including Sat night when he was part of the 54 hole leaderboard, Block went to the Pittsford Pub (burgers, sandwiches, wings, beer) and hung with golf fans. He earned $288,000 from the Championship, gets a spot in next year’s Championship, and was invited to play in next week’s tour event & the Canadian Open. I’m guessing more tournament invites will follow. If you’re wondering, the Oak Hill membership initiation fee is $70,000 with $800 monthly dues (that doesn’t include food & beverages) plus any assessments for improvements. If you’re under age 35, it’s $5,000/$400.
  7. Another forgotten 1960s time travel show was The Time Tunnel. It lasted 1 season. Created by Irwin Allen who also did ‘60s TV shows Lost In Space and Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea before huge ‘70s disaster films including The Poseidon Adventure & The Towering Inferno.
  8. +1 on Groundhog Day If you’re of a certain age, you watched the Rocky & Bullwinkle Show including Mr Peabody & Sherman.
  9. I am far from expert advice on LA but I will highly recommend something I did there many years ago: See a concert at Disney Hall. The Gehry architecture is breathtaking. The sound in the hall is even more stunning. I saw the LA Phil play An American In Paris then, together with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, play Marsalis’ Swing Symphony. The sound just explodes from the stage.
  10. Many great voices heard in the Joni Mitchell Gershwin Prize presentation on PBS Yes, this is not peak Joni but deeply affecting considering her health battles. I could listen all day, every day.
  11. Jimmy Cammack? Before joining Ahmad, he was the bassist in a band with my piano teachers (Frank & Dennis Richmond) and guitar teacher (Tony DePaolo). That was in the mid-late 70s.
  12. Never get involved in a land war in Asia. Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line.
  13. Interesting choices with Billy Joel. I could easily think of 3 unmentioned songs for a list: Love it: Summer, Highland Falls Like it: All For Leyna (maybe not well known?) Hate it: Uptown Girl The guitar on the verses sounds like “Roxanne”:
  14. I could flip hate & love.😁 Springsteen Love it: Jungleland Like it: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out* Hate It: Dancing In The Dark * actually between love & like
  15. I think dB was a keyboard tech with Miles during some of the ‘80s. Maybe he’ll share stories.
  16. I don’t know how I remember things like Gershon Kingsley originally did “Popcorn”. He’s a part of Moog history.
  17. No conversation of bad ‘70s music is complete without this. It’s barely a song that someone turned into barely a movie.
  18. I had a couple other thoughts about Bobby Caldwell over the weekend: So many of his tunes have a great bridge, an element missing in a lot of contemporary pop songwriting. He would have been great in Toto.
  19. Heart Of Mine is an amazing album. Had 3 songs that were big for other artists. Al Jarreau Boz Scaggs Peter Cetera & Amy Grant (went to #1)
  20. +1 on Wes Anderson My favorites in no order: The Royal Tennenbaums The Grand Budapest Hotel Rushmore Moonrise Kingdom
