A cheap, nasty sounding and not great playing Rogue acoustic guitar, all laminated woods. Thrift store - $20.

For whatever reason, when I record it with a bright mic the track drops right into a mix and sounds good.

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

After decades of playing guitar I decided at age 70 to switch to piano, still can't play that well but just got asked to play piano with old music buddies in their band.    So needed a keyboard light enough for me to carry and did a little of everything so one keyboard I could (close enough) all the things I needed for some classic rock.   To do that I just ordered a Nord Stage 3 76HP, it suppose to get here in a couple days.   I was tempted to get the YC but that Nord library I think will be better for what I want to do.

Cherry Audio Synth Stack 2. I bought it just for fun, and it is a lot of fun. The Quadra is close to the Arp Omni II that I played in my first band. Their version of MemoryMoog stays in tune. I always wanted an 8 Voice and a PolyMoog. The modular rack is, well, cheap. I have single Eurorack modules that cost more than twice the cost of the Cherry Audio package.

I wanted to be a drummer. Longed to be a drummer. Was the best drummer around my rural area, no question. Played drums in my first band. Then a really good band in a neighboring town asked me to play keys. I was classically trained but had never played anything by ear but after hearing their guitarist I could not turn them down. I thought I was horrible on keys, but the jobs kept coming and I eventually got comfortable with it. You will too. Welcome to our world.

Hammond XK-2

I've been looking for a while for my next 'board.  Everything I looked at, my first questions was "how good is the Hammond B-3 sound?".  I was at an Open Jam last Friday night and a guy brought one of these and absolutely rocked it!  I started checking prices on different sites and found this one in barely played, near perfect condition less than two hours away.  I drove over Saturday afternoon and bought it.  Holy cow, 41 lbs!  I'm digging it nonetheless.

Korg Wavestate.

I can use it to play key-mapped multisamples of my Moog Matriarch and Subharmonicon.

I had mulled picking up an arranger keyboard to reduce time spent on programming intros, outros, fills, and other variations for songs.  Then I was convinced to go with the Wavestate instead.  It does not have the obvious buttons to hit for intro, outro, fills, etc. like on arrangers, but it does offer a lot more flexibility for creating drum patterns and other rhythmic ideas that don't just repeat exactly the same way upon every pass.   Thus as an idea machine it may be worth the modest expense over a sub-$500 arranger like the Yamaha PSR-E473 or Casio CT-S500.

A damper pedal is a must for the Wavestate.  This lets me lay down any two-handed chord voicing on the keyboard, then sustain it indefinitely while I tweak the Mod knobs to observe how the wave sequence changes.  The $15 one I got from Amazon to use with my Casio CT-S1 works fine - just have to flip the polarity switch to the other side.

Some really nice factory sound presets and wave sequences - other than Ski Jam - in this machine.  Some not so nice, but there are a plethora of 3rd party sound and performance preset libraries out there now.

The recent Acoustic Piano VI Shootout thread got me interested in Acoustic Samples Yamaha C7, and I remembered seeing it on the Korg Shop from Purgatory Creek as a download for Kronos/Nautilus, so I bought the Player+Close bundle. It’s a cool addition, especially as an alternative to Berlin where it has superior timbre dynamics and a woodier tone.

Band season coming to a hiatus here, planning next season's rig:

- X32 Rack + old laptop + rolling ATA rack + power conditioner for stage-side mixing and recording of the band (done)

- NP5 76 key version, as current NP4 needs a rebuild (on deck).  NS3C still on top.  2 pairs of stereo signals out, nothing external.

- two SD16 stage boxes if I can find any on this side of the planet (pending availability)

- a used trailer to haul all this stuff around (pending spousal approval)

Eventide Split EQ plugin for recording.

A game changer beyond any doubt. They've cleanly split transients and tones apart and provided separate EQ systems - one for transients and one for tones, with high and low pass filters on the ends and 2  full parametric EQs in the middle.

The amount of control over your sound is amazing and the interface is very easy and intuitive to use. If I could only have one EQ plugin, I would choose Split EQ hands down.

Long story. The Drummer, Guitar player, and Bass player are all old-school and refuse to even try ear bugs. They also refuse to try the ubiquitous phone apps for mixing your own wedge. They also are not understanding the concept of setting the keyboards level in their wedges WHILE EVERYBODY IS PLAYING! ...not just when I'm playing by myself. Last two shows they were unable to hear the keys in their monitors, thought it was too much hassle to ask the FOH tech for more, and timing suffered noticeably on numerous occasions.

That being said, I have this little QSC CP-8 coming tomorrow to use as side fill. I will aim it across the stage and not toward FOH. Hopefully it will help. I gotta do "something."

Just pickup up the last Yamaha FC 7 they had at my local GC to use with my Nord I just got.

Almost didn't get FC7 the girl at the counter totally ignored me  doing stuff on the computer never said "I'll be with you in a minute" or "I'll get someone to help you" then she just walked off.    I was going to leave but my buddy who buys there all the time was picking up a guitar from repair, so I stopped one of the salespeople on the floor.     We were the only people in the story spending money and they ignore me.   I only bought it from GC because I went there with my buddy, else I'd would of ordered it from Sweetwater.

Excellent find, enjoy it

Well the school didn't really know what they were and told the guy I bought them from they didn't need them.  It happens with older facilities, funeral homes, older people's homes and institutions. They don't what they have in some cases. You just have to be there at the right time. It's all timing. Truthfully I wish I could have gotten them cheaper. I posted pictures on the Technicians page on Facebook of the pair of them.

I have got the guitar bug 🙃

- New Fender Eric Johnson pickups and electronics for my old Squier Strat

- New Harley Benton acoustic western guitar

- New Harley Benton SSS Strat

- New Harley Benton SC Special TV Yellow

- Epiphone Casino worn ebony

Then I found out I wanted some more sound and effects than my little  Boss Katana mini could produce, so I bought a Headrush MX5 and 8” FRFR monitor

- Then a pair of used Seymor Duncan Seth Lover puppies in gold and of course I had to buy new tailpiece and saddle in same colors that I have just installed in my Epiphone ES335 Dot

Now back to keyboards, but I just discovered the new Fender Player Plus series with larger fretboard angle, and I have thick fingers ….. 😬

While this graphic doesn't really fit the thread category (nor the "Dig My Rig..." , "Studio Desks..." - well OK it does kinda fit the "How Wide Z Stand..." and "Another Stand..." threads), seeing the same image posted on all five threads gives me some ideas for my USS tubes & T-connectors. I like the design! :D

Yep, I have that affliction.  3 guitars and counting.  Headrush is awesome.  I just got an HX Stomp and am blown away.  I sold 3 other pedals that don't get used anymore because it is so versatile.

Ah what the heck, I might as well admit I bought a new guitar too - Strandberg Salen Jazz NX, from Strandberg's Refurb section.  It's the first guitar I got with 0.10 gauge strings on which I can actually play the double-stop bends that Jay Graydon played to start his iconic solo on Steely Dan's "Peg".  Before that, I could only play it on my Tele with 0.009 gauge strings.   I'm sure the ease of bending is due to the combination of 20" fingerboard radius and compound 25"-25.5" scale.

Because of the small body, notes played on this guitar don't have the low-mid punch of my D'Angelico Excel Mini DC.  Then again, neither of them have the big-bodied punch of the, well, bigger bodied D'Angelico EXL archtop.  It does however, produce notes that have that airy, rounded off semi-hollow character, especially when you dig into the strings to get that extra spank.  It also responds very well to hammer-ons and pull-offs.  Sustain is outstanding.   For rhythm guitar, I love setting the pickup switch to position 4, which activates the inner coil of the neck humbucker and outer coil of the bridge pickup.  Michael Frank cleverly designed this pickup combo to be noiseless, even though it's 2 single coils.

It's been a couple of decades since I had a "Hammond" -- so when the opportunity arose to acquire this Hammond SK Pro 73 from a fellow forum member here, I jumped on it:

1696732638_SKPro73.jpg.50b366bb9a1de1221d9608ab63923a30.jpg

And then, of course, I had to get this to protect my baby.1185230556_HardCaseSKPro73.jpg.ff84dc5e5b48b5c8e5dd7f1241b3968d.jpg

The SK Pro 73 and Vault are 50# combined weight -- but that's a lot less than the 2 Hammond's and 2 Leslie's we carried around back in the 80's.

Thought I'd share a pleasant surprise -- inexpensive IEMs that sound GREAT!

I tried a pair at rehearsal tonight, and couldn't believe my ears.  How does $50 sound for a five-driver sealed design that uses components seen elsewhere?  Compared to my Westone AM Pro 30s, it was like night and day.  Those extra two drivers make a difference.

I came home and bought a few pair just to have around: studio, gig bag, couch, etc.

Find them here if you're interested: "KZ ZS10 Pro, Linsoul 4BA+1DD 5 Driver in-Ear HiFi Metal Earphones with Stainless Steel Faceplate, 2 Pin Detachable Cable".   I guess they don't spend much on marketing ...

+1 on the zs10's... for $50, I can vouch that they're perfect for small group gigs and I have no doubt for many other use cases.

Yesterday, Value Village had a Harmony guitar from the mid 60's in nice condition. Today, I have it.

The body is all solid Honduras Mahogany, the top and back are single pieces. You can't get that stuff no more.

Was around $86 out the door, sounds nice and looks purty . The back is especially nice, see 2nd photo.
