  1. Welcome, @mjsjazz. This topic comes up every few weeks. Revolving door of posters, but the gist is pretty much the same. Might as well start with the latest: clonk
  2. The CK61 is great for that, and has cc transmitting drawbars. Bonus is that some of its internal sounds are as good if not better than some apps. Best of both worlds IMO.
  3. I used many of the suggestions above, mostly written on cheat sheets on recipe cards.

  5. Calling Julius D…
  6. That Gershwin fella sure knew his standards
  7. I’ve tried Camelot a few times and could never get used to the box interface, and how they organize things. I prefer the “channel strip” approach such as with AUM and MainStage. My brother has been looking for a host to run a fairly complex show, and tried Camelot, MainStage and Gig Performer. None of them worked for him. He’s a Cubase power user and out of the blue got a marketing email from Steinberg promoting their VSTLive. It’s so much like Cubase that he is finding VSTLive to be his solution for loading multi instruments, light, charts, everything.
  8. I really, really like Beato’s videos. Thanks for posting - it’s a good read.
  9. I’ve always thought it was pronounced “Bee-ANN-oh.”
  10. I’m probably the outlier, but I gliss with my nails. Thumbnail on the way down, fingernails on the way up. The only way I get those skin splits beside the thumbnail or index/third fingers are from glancing off sticky keys and my skin pulls apart. During the summer months, I “tape up,” and I’ve taught myself to play a lot more delicately.
  11. This is a known issue with Motion Sound amps from the beginning. I had a KS 200 approx 25 years ago that dropped knobs all the time; awkward carrying position didn’t help. I contacted the company, they sent me free ones with a note that I should use Shoe Goop to glue them on. My thought was “then why don’t they do that in the first place?” Sheesh.
  12. I don’t get what would be different about playing country piano as opposed to any other style of pop music.
  13. Back in 2004 I was invited to audition for a movie that was looking for either an actor who could fake playing piano, or a player who could act. The role was a 1930’s sidekick bandleader, a fourth scripted role. I got the gig, and learned all the piano parts by ear from the prerecorded soundtrack. The first run through, the director realizes I’m actually playing along to the soundtracked piano and from that point on, my hands are filmed extensively. Scripted scenes went off fine. But I did have other filmies asking how long I’d been playing piano… all my life, I said. But how long have I been acting? About 10 minutes. I won best supporting actor (not the Oscars, folks, ha ha). Anyhoo, that led to a couple more auditions, but I dropped out. Oscar Levant, I’m not!
  14. I recall all the Beatle wigs were black. We all thought they had black hair because of the B&W tv. I think it was Rubber Soul before I found out otherwise!
  15. I listened to the radio by myself since I was 3 or 4, pecking out tunes on our beat up piano. I heard my first band on summer holidays at a lake dancehall in 1963, still largely surf music! The sound of live electric instruments and drums was a seismic event in my life that I still remember vividly. The next winter, just after turning 12, I saw the first Beatles performance on Ed Sullivan. Some friends of my parents were over and the Mrs came down to the rumpus room to watch the spot with my brother and me because her 12 year old son was crazy about them too. He played guitar, had written some songs, so she asked me to come over to their place to hook up with him the next weekend. I did, my oldest musical friendship was formed, and we built a band that night. We've played together on and off in different bands throughout the decades.
  16. It’s one of those “what were they thinking” when Yamaha dropped USB Audio. I think once they included it in any model, it should be standard going forward.
  17. I think this is one of the best ones I've heard. Thanks for posting this!
  18. I had a GrandStage 73 and liked the RH3 so much that I sold it to buy a Kronos2 73, presuming the actions were identical. As far as I can tell, they are. Still loving it.
  19. Hey Richard, I've found in our local area (meaning the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island) the most active site for musical instruments continues to be CraigsList. That said, I have a couple of things on there right now, and not a bite. Reverb is okay, but doesn't have a lot of participation north of the 49th compared to the US, and cross-border shipping & customs gets in the way of a lot of potential sales. Same goes for KC, although I've had some luck both buying and selling of smaller items that are easy and cheaper to ship. Facebook (which I cancelled years ago) and Used.ca are for lowball deals in this market. Just my 2¢ CDN!
  20. Velocity and filters can make a big difference, something that drew me to the CK over the VOX. With the latter, it’s largely that you get what they serve. There’s quite a lot more you can do with the CK.
