Dig My Rig--Let's see your setup!

To be honest Steve I largely suspect its just the result of working and saving money and not being able to afford houses anymore... so I have spent my money on keys..(I think the Kronos might be my last ever purchase!)

Mind you I don't have 1/4 of the talent you have so I am working on that aspect at the moment.. ;)

Yes I know.... waaay too much.... :D

:rawk:

Too much is not enough !

I now regret I sold all the gear not being visable on my pics anymore.

Is that a roll of toilet paper on that V-Synth/Poly Evolver pic ?

These keys being set up on an X-stand in the closet ?

If yes, that´s way cool,- LOL

This thread is pure gear porn !

OMG!! Sometimes I forget just how much gear some of you guys have...count me envious :)

Me,too. Damn it, I should have never sold all this stuff. I need more gear.

Agreed.... and please don't anyone start another "gear you wish you hadn't sold" thread. I don't think I could handle the pain...

This is the rig I've been getting to work with quite a bit the last couple months

Classy !

Well, it´s all about the room.

What console is this ?

I´d be able to get a ACE console for peanuts in good condition but it´s impossible to get it into my workroom and have another one free for a recording booth.

I´d need a new house ...

and I´ve found a pic from,- wow,- 1973 and in the age of 18 ...

gigging w/ my brandnew 1972 Fender Rhodes mk I Stage 73.

I miss that Rhodes, it sounded beautiful w/ the Fender Dual Showman Reverb amp and vintage Fender 2x10" Jensen Alnico cabs.

Hey AlCoda looking at this photo, I guess you are probably quite familiar with the German rock/jazz scene of the 70s. I am quite a fan of a lot of those hippy acts... e.g. Real Ax Band, Atlantis, Frumpy, Embyro, etc...

You and me both, I'm saving $$$ to build one. Been renting too long!

I'm thinking along the same system for my silvertop. When I bought it the bottom cabinet had two speakers and no amp at all. I have been playing it through an old british Selmer amp with alnico speakers and love the sound but not enough power/volume to cut through a stage band. Found out that the Dual Showman Reverb is the head version of the Twin Reverb so I am hunting for one of those. The bottom cabinet of my silvertop has cutouts for 2x12 and 2x10 (!) so I'm hunting for alnico speakers for that.

Well, I was very young at that time, but entered the studio scene in the very late 70th.

The first tour in my life was w/ the early german fusion band "To Be" which must have been in 1978 or 79.

I have regular contact w/ founding member/ keyboard player Claus R.Kruse and founding member/drummer L.Lembrecht.

Claus was here yesterday afternoon, we´re still real friends.

I toured w/ A.Conti (Atlantis guitarist) in 1984 and 1985 when he had his own deal w/ CBS and his album "Continued" was just released.

I didn´t knew Alex before, so I´m not on that record but did all the gigs.

To your surprise, in that lineup were 2 musicians from Oslo, the drummer and the bass player !

The last time I´ve seen him was in 2004 when he performed on a festival w/ a Lake reunion band w/ shouter M.Starrs.

Ironically, I visited that gig meeting the guys I gigged w/ on the 1973 pic.

Frumpy/Atlantis drummer C.Bohn was also member of "Georgie Red" and I jumped in for a festival tour over germany down to france without rehearsals because one of their keyboardists decided for a film music job and IIRC, that was in 1989.

I´m renting since the late 70th, had a larger loft downtown incl. freight elevator ´til mid 1998, then decided for suburb in the green, but it´s much smaller even the yard is very large.

Parents 91 now, love ´em and hope they´ll be alive as long as possible.

I hope, I don´t get my own house earlier than I wish.

You´re right w/ the Fender Dual Showman Reverb,- that´s why I buyed it in the past.

I found, sealed cabs worked better for keys than open back combos.

The guitarist had a Twin w/ a pair JBL D120F and blew ´em several times.

He then swapped it for a Dual Showman Reverb head and the Fender 2x15" JBL cab.

At these times, we all played very loud.

I also used Marshall 4x12 green back and Ampeg 4x12 cabs,- but the vintage cream tolex Fender 2x10 were the best sounding and I used 2 of these until I sold the combination as also my 2 Rhodes and Clavinet D6 in 1985.

Well, I know the Selmers from the 60th when I owned a VOX organ.

Haha great AC. I had the "To Be" LP (I think it was from 1976) a long time ago.... it was a great LP with a fab latin track called Glucklich...

it used to go for a lot of money as it was compiled on an LP with a lot of other German fusion (such as the band Namaz, Kitty Winter, etc.). It was also one the tunes I used to try and cover in the acid jazz scene of the 1990s.

Anyway, I am diverting from the topic quite wildly but I love that scene.

That´s Claus playing keys on that record but it´s also the material I performed live.

I had a dejà vu last week, pulling out a box of off my attic and there were all the notations of that music inside.

Unfortunately, Peter, the percussionist (also excellent drummer) died many years ago and was one of my real buddies and one of the nicest guys ever.

The bass player Rolf also died in the age of 58 some years ago.

Lemmi, the drummer, suffers hard, it´s real bad.

He´s unable to leave his house since years now.

They found out nothing in the hospital.

Drumming is over since many years.

It´s a real shame because he was one of these very sophisticated drummers here, excellent technique and timing,- and he was one of these who never drunk, smoked or did all the other things, you know.

Meditation and active sports were his drugs.

He also designed studio monitor speakers and has great tech knowledge.

There´s another To Be record, done in Claus studio when he lived on the countryside, I did additional keys on for 2 tunes, some Prophet 5 synth stuff an a Minimoog solo thru a EH Big Muff.

Just found out I don´t have this record myself,- so I´ll drop him a mail now.

It's a 32 channel API

Yeah, not my gear, but I've been working a lot there lately. I'll have a few albums to shamelessly plug in the coming months ;)

A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.

thx for the info, never seen that console before but it looks like it sounds great.

Not neccessary to own everything.

Lots of my gear keeps switched off these days.

There are so many studios for cheap now and if I want the vintage electro magnetics or a grand piano, it´s much easier to go there and pay something.

Looking forward your recordings,- good luck and big success !

Thanks for the info AC. :)

Sorry to hear about the band members.

That whole scene was something I got into as a young adult (mid 20s) in the 90s (I'm 43 now). A lot of us used to go to a groovy bar back in the day and the DJ had a lot of these records as they were being reissued. So many memories... hard to believe its nearly 20 years ago... and for you even longer.

I did my first gig at one of those bars... just me on a rhodes 54 jamming over a loop of a fusion record (I think it might have been an Alphonse Mouzon track and I was doing my best to sound like Herbie.... oh well...).

THAT is a hell of a modern gigging rig. I would love that rig. SK on top of a Kronos on top of Kurzweil for piano? Nice.

It's a great setup, the Korg and the Kurz work very well together, both midi- and soundwise. I can bring my PC3X for weighted keys if I'm playing a lot of piano.

I got the SK1 last week, I 'downgraded' from an XK3c which is a great instrument but too big for my current needs. I'm also working on getting my IEM system set up, I have a buttkicker and molded earpieces from Starkey. I'm getting too old for bad sound on stage! ;-)

For those of you who have had both an XK3-c and an SK1: Which have you liked for a live rig? Why? I grew up playing real Hammonds. I'm older now, and don't want heavy stuff, but I want to feel like I'm playing a Hammond. I figure an XK3-c (43 lbs. + case)will feel close to right, and there are no stores around to try out an SK1 (15 lbs. + case) or SK2. So, I'm looking for guidance from you who have been there. What worked for you? Was it worth the extra weight to have the SK3-c? Which board was easier to use as a controller to, eg., a Yamaha ES Rack, etc.?
