I see with joy that you have your little pianorgan thing! I had one for some time, borrowed from a friend but he had to take it back (as a... decoration item in his living room). I also see that you've got the indian harmonium (i love mine) :thu:

Mmhmm! I picked up the pianorgan for $40 off a guy a few years ago. I probably should have spent less.. the thing is very dusty, takes a while to warm up, and whenever I risk turning it on, it sounds as though a dead animal is stuck inside. I could probably get it repaired or open it up to fix the motor myself, but I don't know if it's worth the effort. I've never recorded with it, but it's certainly quirky!

The harmonium on the other hand is a dream. I believe it's a Bina No. 15, and may have been the second-best one at the store I bought it from, that specializes in Indian instruments. I adore playing it, and it really does transport me to a more harmonious, peaceful place. I've had friends try it and they try to pump the bellows rhythmically, but I just let my playing flow. What I do with my left hand and the bellows is COMPLETELY independent of the melodic or harmonic passage that I'm playing with my right hand. I suppose it may take people some time to adjust to that, but the minute I sat down with the instrument, I found it natural. It wouldn't surprise me at all if I bought a second one. I have a Sufi-inspired indie/pop music side project that I'd like to start one day, but for now I'm just writing songs on my spare time.

you give me ideas. I play with a Sufi artist -on the ethnic side, he's turkish- and the little thing would be just perfect for some tunes. It's a bit sharp i think you there must be a way to bring it down a little.

BTW when i brought mine from New Delhi, the girl in the airport put it inside the plane-when back, the sides were broken. I went to a good carpenter who fixed it for me and now it works like a champ. I use it with my group sometimes and, along with the stylophone, they get the more positive comments!

I'm glad you got it fixed! I'm sure you can retune it maybe by adjusting some of the metal wires inside. Mine is fortunately pretty close to in tune (I've just used my ear, but for the most part, its on pitch with my other instruments). One of my drones doesn't sound as good as the others, but it works well enough for me. I always play with the five stops open (the other four are drones), to get the maximum sound. Maybe I should incorporate one into the heavier (main) project I'm working on--that could be interesting, and it is supposed to be art rock...

By the way, yannis D and Ashville.Guru, how do you go about micing your harmoniums for live performance/recording? For my demos, I've simply done a sort of close/far thing for the harmonium, but I may try an X/Y right above it the next time I record. Close/far has allowed me to capture the clicking of the notes though, which is kind of cool. I use SM57s.

The before picture, prior to the minimalist setup:

You already have something showing Solaris in your rig, quasi "extended minimalist setup" ?

I like these rack frames in the Z-Stands,- good idea for the home !

The Solaris will take the place of the Voyager in the minimalist setup; the Voyager will go on its own stand to the left. They haven't made it up to my serial number in the production line yet- the manufacturer are not under Bowen's direct control, and they seem to love taking vacations......

Ooops, sorry, didn´t know it didn´t arrive up to now.

I´m surprised, because the manufacturer is the same as for Access Virus products since some time.

But I see availability in germany also not before 04.01.2012.

Perish the thought...

I have a slight hip injury that's been bugging me, so I'm sitting while I practice and program at the moment.

Which UPS are you using for that rig when gigging ?

No UPS, just a decent voltage regulator. Furman AR-15 Series II.

I use a single Shure 57 closely put to the upper side of the harmonium. We're an electric band, so the mic must be a dynamic one, as close as possible to the instrument, otherwise it gets too much sound from the other guys. It does not make miracles-these instruments are not made to play with electric bass and drums, so there's a compromise.

Be grateful for what you've got - a Nord, a laptop and two hands

My stuff is spread out in three rooms.

http://flyboyfilms.tv/Ellsounds/lrkbds.jpg

The living room has my 1963 Baldwin Acrosonic piano that I started lessons on. And my Yamaha D3 Electone organ.

http://flyboyfilms.tv/Ellsounds/rrkbds.jpg

The band rehearsal room in the basement has my Kurzweil SP76, Alesis QS7, Korg Polysix (with MIDI), Akai XR20 and V-Machine. The V-Machine can be controlled from the Kurz, QS7 or P6. I use it mainly with Messiah, OP-X and VB3. Nice analog bliss MIDI-ing the P6 and Messiah together! The P6 goes through a Korg G3 effects pedal mainly for delay and distortion. Not shown - Roland AX-1 which I play out on occasion. There's also my QSC K10 and out of sight on a nearby shelf are the Studiologic TMK-88 and Novation Xiosynth.

Pardon the messy cords; this was taken during a quick setup after a gig. I usually use velcro ties to tidy up a bit.

http://flyboyfilms.tv/Ellsounds/studkbds.jpg

My soundtrack/video editing studio has the Roland Fantom X7, QSR, MKS-100 and CME UF7 controlling Sonar 8.5 Producer and tons of soft-synths. Not shown is my Strat in the corner.

Admittedly I don't have the latest and greatest but I have to allocate some of my gear spending for video production equipment as well! So I make the most of the older boards I have.

My stuff:

Hats off, man !

This is complete,- and, if I recognize that right, all in a surround environment. (Where´s the center spkr ?)

Amazing collection.

Thanks Al- not intended for surround. I just like the sound in front of me no matter which position I'm in. Especially when I'm "playing jazz":laugh::cop:

Set from my last time in the studio. The C3 & pair of 122s are behind me.

The toy table include a Strymon TimeLine for the Voyager & Phatty, an OCD & 3Leaf Audio GR2 Envelope Filter for the Wurli, and an iPad w/ 16 step sequencer for the SlimPhatty.

Ah I see,- same intention here and that´s why I have these 2 Alesis spkrs on my keystands.

The others beneath the DAW screens are Tannoys.

I´ll replace the Alesis as soon I find a rubber surround for a Tannoy DTM-8 driver because I have a 2nd pair w/ one spkr damaged.

Better to have identical speakers on every position in the room,- like you.
