Incredibly boring songs to play

Recommended Posts

People love some of the most boring songs. I can come up with an extensive list but I thought I would start things off with the most current song;

Tennessee Whisky

I'll still play it because it is our job to make people happy, but I don't have to enjoy it.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA!!!!! Gah!!!

We play Folsom Prison Blues but since the band grooves the hell out of it and I get to go on a "Chicken Pickin'/Hard Rock Shred Fest on the second solo, I still like it.

Can't You See. ugh.

We were asked to play Can't You See in a pickup band at a large outdoor party by an insistent drunk woman who would not go away. None of us could remember the first verse so I started in with "Gonna buy a pizza, without no anchovies, then I'm gonna crash my car" and kept going. She huffed off, furious. We did get the chorus right, sort of...

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

This past Sunday had a request to play this song ...... ugh. I said we'll do it; but thankfully never got around to it.

P.S. Having played in a Southern Rock Tribute band for 20 years, anything SKYNYRD. I'm to the point that I even change the radio station when one of their songs come in.

57 Hammond B3; 69 Hammond L100P; 68 Leslie 122; Kurzweil Forte7 & PC3; M-Audio Code 61; Voce V5+; Neo Vent; EV ELX112P; GSI Gemini & Burn

If you play behind a female vocalist, there will be some boring songs. E.g. Landslide. It's hard to make it interesting, because it's easy to distract from what the vocalist is doing. So I just listen to her sing as I do easy backing stuff, with simple fills and uncomplicated solos as needed.

With the right vocalist, this works for me.

Can't You See

I hate playing that flute part. The notes are so low probably because they used an alto flute. Difficult to play with any power on a standard flute. Piano part is just boring. Been a long time since I had to play this one.

Sweet Home Alabama

The song itself is boring after all these years but I don't mind doing the Piano solo. Still play this in a couple of bands.

Brown Eyed Girl

The guitar part is actually pretty interesting if you play it correctly. Fortunately I haven't had to play this in many years.

C3/122, M102A, Vox V301H, Farfisa Compact, Gibson G101, GEM P, RMI 300A, Piano Bass, Pianet , Prophet 5 rev. 2, Pro-One, Matrix 12, OB8, Korg MS20, Jupiter 6, Juno 60, PX-5S, Nord Stage 3 Compact

Semisonic - Closing time

Spacehog - In the meantime

Fuel - Shimmer

Tons of stuff from the 90s and 00s, really, because people just seemed to throw in some gimmicky one finger keyboard riff and go platinum.

Two people said Sweet Home Alabama, are you kidding me? That song is only as boring as you let it be.

Keyboards: Nord Electro 6D 73, Korg SV-1 88, Minilogue XD, Yamaha YPG-625

Bonus: Boss RC-3 Loopstation

Werewolves of London. I win.

You would win if this weren't a seasonal song. The piano part is woefully repetitious but I tend to play it only around Halloween, and the holiday crowd is way into it, so its place as a high-energy rarity overcomes the inherent boredom.

Get Lucky, yes, absolutely.

Some more:

Twist and Shout

Beggin'

You've got the Love

This one is dependent on whether or not the singer shouts out for a piano solo on the night (50/50 chance)

Food for Thought (UB40)

Hammond SKX

Mainstage 3

No song is boring as long as you can do what you want with it.

Arrangements can be boring, and often are.

Gigs can be boring, e.g., pretty much any function gig.

Programming your keyboard for a gig can be boring. Especially a function gig.

Bandmates/gigmates can be boring. Or, contrarywise, they can bring life and joy to the most boring gig.

Driving to a gig can be pretty damn boring.

Contrary to reputation, mind-altering substances can be pretty boring.

Groupies can be the opposite of boring. Then the switch flips and you can't get away from them fast enough.

That street-grilled hot dog wrapped in bacon and smothered in grilled onions, ketchup, mustard, and mystery sauce at 1 am after a gig and before driving home: never boring!

Gigging: Crumar Mojo 61, Hammond SKPro

Home: Vintage Vibe 64

Yep, I'm a bit with Adan here...apart from the hot dog - nowhere to get those down here! Sounds pretty delish though ;)

There is no luck - luck is simply the confluence of circumstance and co-incidence...
