Best Hammond clone dry into a Ventilator?
Delaware Dave replied to MrVegas's topic in The Keyboard Corner
The past few shows over the course of 6 weeks i've been using both the Vent and the BURN w/ KB3 (dry) of the PC3 and the Forte. With the right tweaks to the organ section the combinations work. Two uncorrectable things are the C/V itself (the chorus is horrible) and that the percussion routes through the C/V rather than around the C/V. Mitigation is that I use C1 and turn off C/V when engaging percussion. Also, if you turn off C/V when engaging the internal leslie in fast speed it sounds much less phasier than when C/V is engaged. Below is a link to a double leslie that i worked on 10 years ago. Its much improved over anything delivered within either the PC3 or the Forte. It is a double leslie that will consume 14 of the available 16 DSP units of the PC3. https://forums.godlike.com.au/index.php?topic=3861.msg31597#msg31597 Bill Whitney created a single leslie that is available here. I'd also try this as an alternative. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/yM7zSGNSsXuKHDde/?mibextid=oFDknk -

OT: phone splitter issues with charging and audio
Delaware Dave replied to Delaware Dave's topic in The Keyboard Corner
As I mentioned in my opening post that when I plug in the old adapter into the new phone a message comes up on my new phone screen that the adapter is not compatible with the phone. -
Until about 2 months ago I used an old android Motorola phone. In the car I used an adapter to both charge the unit and 1/8” out to the aux input of my car stereo to listen to music (my car doesn’t have bluetooth). It worked nicely, here is the adapter: That phone died so I purchased a Samsung Android phone. I purchased the recommended splitter for it, wanting to do the same thing, i.e. charge the phone and play music through the aux in of my car stereo. The problem is that: 1) can’t do both at the same time, when the USBC is connected to a charger I hear static through the radio’s Aux In (and no music). With the USBC disconnected and only the 1/8” being used and plugged into the aux in of the stereo, I get no sound. 2) If I plug headphones into the 1/8” outlet of the splitter it works perfectly (but still doesn’t work with the USBC also plugged in). So, I can’t use both the USBc and the headphone adapter at the same time, and the headphone adapter only works with headphones and NOT when I patch the 1/8” female of the splitter into the car stereo’s 1/8” input. The patch cord I use from the splitter into the car stereo is good, it works with other hookups, so it has something to do with the adapter I purchased. What I don’t understand is why my old phone and its adapter took a charge and played through the 1/8” simultaneously and this adapter will either charge and not play audio at the same time OR with the charger removed play through headphones (but not through a mixer type input). Any guidance as to what adapter types are needed to both charge the phone and connect the 1/8” to the aux in of my car stereo? The old adapter is not compatible with the new phone, I get a message on my phone telling me this when I plug in the adapter. Here is a pic of the new adapter:

Justice has now been served......... He was ordered to pay $33 million, how is it that 30 years later not a dime has been paid? Why would a prosecutor bother going to court if at the end of the day the defendant says ... "screw the decision I'm not paying". How is that justice? Where's the legal system in freezing his accounts, forcing the payments to be made? He had money to play golf then he had money toward the $33 million. Hope he saved enough money for an air conditioner cause he's going to need one now..... -
Here's my theory on this: Crumar offers basic features where others offer more. I believe this allows them to then keep the price down. A couple examples: No dedicated organ out of the Gemini module nor the Mojo; no 11 pin for an external leslie. They offer an 11 pin accessory sold separately; mojo is mono timbral so although they offer non organ sounds they cant be played simultaneously; one set of drawbars rather than two, you can purchase a 2nd set of drawbars as an accessory if you really need them. This makes sense to me, why pay a markup on a keyboard for features you may not ever use. So if you later want to use an 11 pin leslie then buy the accessory but why pay for an accessory that you don't need? This has been my unsubstantiated theory on their lower than typical price points. As far as quality I believe they have switched parts suppliers and since doing that their 'complaints' have substantially decreased. I had big issues with the gemini module, when the new internal boards were received they had to be retrofitted into the unit. The new boards came from a new supplier and .... not one single problem since the new parts were installed a few years ago.

This ... Even my Voce V5+ sounds awesome through a Vent. Have you considered a midi module like a Viscount, Voce, Mojo Desktop, HX3 module that you can pair with the Vent and the controller of your choice? -
I think the intention of the product is for people who want a good hammond emulation but only use the sound occassionally and dont want to add a larger, heavier additional keyboard to achieve it. Also for people who use public transportation and need something lightweight. I actually think that it is a smart offering; they missed the price point as they always do. Hammond seems to think that they can command a premium price on everything they sell, the Cadillac brand if you will. Pedals, benches, lower manuals, leslies, everything is priced at a premium. The problem is that their line of products are not head and shoulders above the rest of the market. This keyboard should have been priced at $600-700 It is currently listed at sweetwater for $1295. The Crumar Mojo is currently listed at Thomanns for $1185. A full manual of keys (61 vs. 49), splittable, lower manual available, highly adjustable, new Yamaha CFX piano, rhodes, wurli and clav. 25 pounds isnt a back breaker. The advantage of the M Solo is the size and weight. Pricepoint makes little sense to me.

New Motion Sound KP-612SX Initial Impression: I am pleased!
Delaware Dave replied to cassdad's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Jeff@msamps.com Here is an old phone number: 801-953-0615 This is the exact reason why i wont purchase any more gear from them, non-responsiveness. Also they have been out of rotary motors for about 4 years so if your rotary motor burns out you're screwed. What good is purchasing a new pro3tm "under warranty" if they cant supply parts? This also means that any new rotary product you might find in the market was produced over 4 years ago.- 5 replies

Organ clone internal sims (gas related)
Delaware Dave replied to JoJoB3's topic in The Keyboard Corner
I use two different organ generators, I use the '61 A102 when I use the Vent or Burn and recently went back to the default organ generator when I use the internal sim. I find these two combinations to provide more consistency in sound regardless of the setup i use. I do like the Vent better and the BURN only lags in the horn (not as good as the Vent's horn) but I have the internal sim good enough that I only use the Vent/Burn as a change of pace. Trust me, nobody but the k/b player will know the difference, they're that close. -
Lee Michaels organ tone secrets.
Delaware Dave replied to Baldwin Funster's topic in The Keyboard Corner
The Motion Sound Low Pro does this when delivered from the factory. It gave a honky sound in the midrange that I didnt like. I installed a coil in the audio line inside the Low Pro to eliminate the tones over 800Hz and it cleaned up the sound. -
The best, most useful and enjoyable keyboard you ever bought?

Beside the Hammonds it would be the Ensoniq SD1. -
Will be married for 40 years later this year, been playing live the entire 40 years. Played in a regional touring band for more than half of those years while being a high flyer at a Fortune 7 company. No one at work knew that i was in a band, i didnt know what the reaction would be if they knew so i decided to must keep it mum. Of course much of that time was prior to social media. So i worked a lot of late hours and also did a fair amount of travel both for business and the band. Somehow managed to survive it all without a crash and burn scenario in my personal life. There was a time in my mid 30's when my wife asked how much longer i was intending to continue playing and at one point i quit for 6-9 months at which point she suggested that i might want to look for a band ....

gigging with a heavy keyboard- your thoughts?
Delaware Dave replied to LeesKeys's topic in The Keyboard Corner
And 15 minutes after I write this i get an email from the booking agent of the Casino, upped the price considererably. They REALLY want us to play there; apparently we drew the biggest crowd there. Still not interested in playing there we're pretty much fully booked, but now others are rethinking. Christ..... -
gigging with a heavy keyboard- your thoughts?
Delaware Dave replied to LeesKeys's topic in The Keyboard Corner
I would pass on the gig ...... i'm not that desperate. A few months we did a Hollywood Casino show in Md.. the place was packed and we all made great money, the Casino supplied the sound. I brought one keyboard and treated it like a practice, one kb, stand, small amp and a DI. I had to carry that minimal stuff about 150 yds through a handful of hallways, a greasy kitchen floor where i slipped and threw my back out, down two more tight hallways to a tiny stage, plus all of the security BS of surrendering my license which took about 40 minutes to get back because the security guy was on break when it was time to retrieve it. They gave us 8 dates for 2024, we turned them all down. Not one of us had any interest in the hassle of playing there. I imagine if we were all 20 years younger we would do it again but at my age the climb aint worth the view. -

Delaware Dave replied to LeesKeys's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Prior to my PC3 i was carrying a 72 pound stage piano, so to me it was a breeze to carry the PC3. I still prefer the piano on that 72 pound beast and absolutely loved the TP20 keybed which is where all of the weight came from, but the days of carrying that beast are over. -
Look for a used voce midi drawbar unit (version 2). This version has the main/aux switch, when set to aux the cc's change from transmitting 12-20 to 21-29. 21 to 29 is what the lower drawbars on the mojo 61 need to receive in order to be controlled via Midi. Velcro it to the mojo 61 and instant dual drawbar control without having to constantly hit the upper/lower drawbar switch on the mojo 61.

Mojo 61 w/ the optional lower manual This way you can have the option of using either the single manual or a dual manual for gigging and comes in two easy to carry pieces. It's also less expensive than a dual manual mojo. mojo 61, 25 pounds; separate lower manual, 17 pounds. Neither one is back breaker. https://www.altomusic.com/products/crumar-mojo61b-lower-manual-for-mojo-61-mojo61lower?variant=46177065238811&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiMmwBhDmARIsABeQ7xSEowZakNFAjOQwIrbrPbGaWqTBZZ2Oq67El2Wb2VQNYdilhFMo7SwaAoSFEALw_wcB

difference between keybed on Kurzweil PC4 88 and K2700?
Delaware Dave replied to LeesKeys's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Ed, it sounds as though you dont like the PPP samples in the PC4 when you play heavy handed. This could be a result of the PC4's samples being a derivative of the Forte's monster large samples. If you go to the layer tab in edit mode you should see 6-8 layers of different samples, ppp to PPP (Pianissimo to Fortissimo). Eliminate the PPP and stretch the PP to cover the PPP, this should eliminate some of the harshness when you get heavy handed. Kurz samples are stereo so there will be a left sample and a right sample, so you'll have to correct both sides. -
difference between keybed on Kurzweil PC4 88 and K2700?
Delaware Dave replied to LeesKeys's topic in The Keyboard Corner
The K2700 uses the Fatar TP40L which is the same keybed as my Forte7. Nice action, lightly weighted. Organ playing is possible but not a great experience, it's fine for acoustic/electric piano playing. Have not played the PC4 88 key so i cannot comment on the differences. @Dave Weiser can probably speak to the differences..... -
gigging with a heavy keyboard- your thoughts?
Delaware Dave replied to LeesKeys's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Went through this back in 2011. Was carrying a 72 pound stage piano and just couldnt do it anymore , decided on the PC3 series from Kurz, the 88 was 54 pounds and the 76 was 37 so I opted for the 37 pounds. Two months ago i decided to upgrade the PC3, my choices were narrowed down to a Stage 3 Compact (22 pounds), PC4-7 (28 pounds) and Forte7 (41 pounds); i went with the Forte7 because it had Kurz' largest piano samples (larger and better than both the PC4 and the K2700 which use derivatives of the Forte's sample, 4 gig vs. 1 gig). Tomorrow I have a gig and in one hour I'm headed to the doctor as my back is in excruitiating pain. If iI call the doctor because of back pain I can assure that the pain has approached the unbearable state. I'm now wondering why I just didnt go as lightweight as possible with my recent purchase. This is also the reason that I no longer carry my "lightweight" Motion Sound Leslie with me anymore. Personally I'd go PC4 rather than K2700 they are very similar except in the weight dept where they are very different. My two cents.
