  1. On Jimmie Kimmel last night. Cool sounds from that Novation instrument box, whatever it is.
  2. In the past, I took a solo weekend gig at a restaurant playing a console piano and the pay was subpar. I did it to develop as it was my first steady solo gig. The tips were ok, but the owner thought apparently it was ok to pay you low and suggested I work the room going table to table. Personally I found it insulting to work while on break. And if I was eating a meal why would I want to be interrupted? So no. I talked with them as they went by the piano if needed and acknowledged the regulars. I got some useful playing experience but owner was so cheap he only tuned the piano 2 times a year. I went out of my way and tuned it each month for nothing. I had enough and departed.
  3. Ring(s)? I cringe when I see someone playing an expensive acoustic with them especially with glissandos.

  5. Thoughts? https://www.amazon.com/FingerBallet-Portable-Keyboard-Semi-Weighted-Bluetooth/dp/B0C4GQ2Y66/ref=asc_df_B0C4GQ2Y66/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=674191447188&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18223869646327064798&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007357&hvtargid=pla-2204664882388&psc=1&mcid=1612715d10593abcbe1879a281ede821
  6. Watched this movie on Yuja then watched her performance of the Rach 3rd. At the end her eyes tearing down her face. I'll tell ya, she's a gift for the planet on what a person can do with hard work and talent. I guess this was maybe performed live in Europe on TV? If so, they have more brains then in the US where they'd rather show crap reality shows. It doesn't get more real than this.
  7. There are so many excellent pianists out there. To me Art Tatum was at the top. With the jazz clubs that have live online viewing now, you can see young cats that have been taught or worked with available resources out there that are playing their asses off. Good to see they are putting in the work.
  8. Yesterday, I got an email from Google showing me where I traveled the past month. Even if I shut it off, it probably won't IMO. But that's the world we live in. I can't take watching a football game or anything on the boob tube without the remote in my hand hitting the mute button. Those gambling commercials, etc. and Kevin Hart yelling give me a headache. Only a matter of time we get hit with a screaming Yoko Ono insurance commercial louder than hell.
  9. I went with mono distance. As a result, I can see close up momentarily if I try to focus but reading anything for a while I just use store bought readers. I was intrigued by the thought of not needing glasses at all with multi focus, which the doctor said I'd be a good candidate for. But read some problems people had adjusting to them could take a year so I passed. From what I read, Medicare won't pay for them because the manufacturers said they spent money developing them and should be getting paid for that. I did think maybe the eye doctor was pushing them and getting a kickback. Who knows. If anyone got multi focus, I'd like to know how it went with after effects and if they went away.
  10. I had both eyes done last year and the doctor said I'd be a good candidate for multi focus lens. Wasn't thrilled about the 6K price vs medicare free mono lens. But, I read about this too with possible halos and problems at night vision. I ride a motorcycle and didn't want to deal with those possibilities, so went mono and need readers. Only thing is the script readers I got made my hands way too big for piano playing. So, I use less strong store boughts and doesn't bother me playing. Only thing I may have changed is having mono distance lens at surgery, but whatever. Just glad to be able to drive at night without the cataract halos.
  11. Are there digital pianos with a hinge that can fold? Seems it would be easier. Just add something on bottom to add support where the hinge is.
  12. I don't think it's getting off topic for the thread much. To me, it's about getting attention or why would he be doing it? I don't begrudge the kimono thing. Do whatever you have to, to make a living playing jazz in this country. But still comes off to me as a gimmick. Yuja Wang with the high tight dresses. She probably has fun with the clothes, but admits people buy tickets on the right of the hall to get a good look at her legs and maybe more. It is what it is these days.
  13. JR obviously is excellent musician. To me, the vid is just an exercise in internet presence click bait. Music doesn't need an angle. I close my eyes and use ears. A dozen dancers has no effect with what I hear. Marketing schtick. How does a billion dollar company use a Christmas song all year to promote Claritin (the most wonderful time of the year) instead of hiring a composer for something new? These companies need to let the holiday stuff rest until the holiday season. Why did Liberace wear those suits? Schtick. There's a very good Japanese jazz pianist who wears kimonos while performing. Looks cool and I like her, but to me still schtick to standout from the crowd.
  14. I would tell BL you can't make it that early due to other obligations and get there an hour before. Some people just don't care. I subbed for a big band and the leader wanted me to actually set up right in front of the doors leading out to a food truck. I refused and set up out of the way of people going in an out. Also, strong wind would of blown music off the stand. My 88 Kronos thanked me.
  15. These Hammonds sound great. A 58 and 66 says the credits at end. For me, hearing Don Patterson in Philly at Gert's lounge drew me in with the full organ sound from outside.
  16. Looking forward to this game and not https://theconversation.com/5-marketing-lessons-from-the-taylor-swift-and-travis-kelce-romance-214827
  17. My original Mojo works fine since using a UPS and following Crumars directions using it.
  18. Too much of todays 'music' relies on optics instead of the ear. Pretty sad.
  19. For some reason watching Hiromi brought back a memory of teaching a beginning teenage girl piano. I was amazed at when she pushed one note down on the acoustic piano (which was in tune). She reacted as though she was getting a bad electric shock. She was hyper sensitive to the string vibrations almost to the point of not being able to play. Hiromi is the total opposite. Highly talented and I'm sure kids love watching and listening to her perform. I know I do, but my kids days are long gone.
  20. Should come with a roll of toilet paper
  21. I remember decades ago playing a place on stage behind the bar. The wiring must of had ground problem. Every time the cash register was used, sound came out of my leslie.
  22. B3. But not the weight. Early Mojo Classic buyer and very happy with it.
