I have no problem admitting that. Having two of them that you can use at the same time in the same synth is pretty cool, too, ain't it? Especially those two...the nice people who made Andy talk did an excellent job on both of them.

I am especially partial to the four-pole lowpass Moog-type filter...fat and sizzly beyond belief. The finer control of the Oberheim-type multimode is kinda cool, too - it's nice to have individual knobs for hi, lo and band pass. But being able to mix and match the two is just the best fun.

Glad you seem to be digging yours as much as I am digging mine.

Okay, this is just getting too weird! Does anyone have any idea when this museum marvel is likely to show up in real, live music stores? I'm beginning to hope that Roland or Korg will come out with an Andromeda knock off that puts Alesis six feet under. Grrrrrrr!

Ok It took some time but I have too introduce myself because everyone did.

The reason I did not want was that I one year a go I was talking on the internet

on a forum and after that I became stupid emails from people which want to sell me everything form sex to stocks and in betweenso I choose a fake name.

I am Cor Bolten from the Netherlands .

I will keep it short.

I am 40 years old and have lovely wife and two lovely girls from 7 and eleven.

I play from my fourth.(xylophone in a church)

Afterthat I played mandoline mandola and guitar.

From my eighteen I played in a band Mecano (not spanisch but the dutch one)

In that band I bought my first synthesizer (Solina Stringsynthesizer around

1980)

Because of internalproblems I quit around 1983.

Studying Music theory( I hope you understand my English) for my own (not in a school)like Harmonic ,Counterpoint etc.

From 1990 I ,ve got my own studio at home and build up a huge collection of old analog synths because I love the old ones .

I have also some new synts and a good studio whith some great other stuff.

I am a "proffesional" in other words it is a living.

I make music for films television and the industry.

The last time I make stockmusic for over the world.

Even in America they use it(proud of that)

My goal is to make music all the time in a short way .

Play and make some things in a quik way .

I can produce a lot in a short time because I think the best way is in the beginning.

I do not want to make the mistake that it can sound better I,ve I take some more time because my orignal idae will collapse .

Hope you understand it and I could speake a thousand words but my englisch is not that well.

Greetings to Pim dancewave also fom the Netherlands.

Music is for me the greatest thing to express myself in the way which I feel and think.

I am for a short time here and I like all the people and Dave I learn a lot in that periode and go one with that.

Greetings to all the people in this forum and forgive my dutch englisch.

regards everyone

Go to bed (very late)

Hi everyone, this is a great thread, it's interesting to see all the diverse background and location of everyone here.

My name is Chris, I'm 20 years old and attending university in Hamilton, Canada. My musical background started with piano lessons at age 6, eventually picking up guitar at 14, while learning trumpet, baritone and bass in high school. I focused on guitar for quite awhile, won a few solo competitions, and have been in a few "bands" that didn't last very long. I eventually became interested in keyboards and composition again, and I loved the idea of recording using software instead of the 8-track Portastudios which drove me nuts. (sorry TASCAM guy!)

I'm still new to this, butI'm learning as much as I can on my own. This forum and keyboard mag have helped quite a bit too.

My current gear consists of:

Korg M1

Korg Triton

Parker Fly guitar

GT-3 effects board

PC running Cubase 5, ACID, SoundForge, Reason, Rebirth

various softsynths/samplers (love the B4 right now)

My musical tastes and influences are all over the place, but I'll list some here.. Pat Metheny, Weather Report, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, John Scofield, Delerium, Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, Bjork, Rush, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Brian Eno, Esthero... quite a mix of jazz/pop/electronic

Well, since Dave "borrowed" the idea for this thread from Chris Stone and Ed Cherney's forum, I figure I'll just "borrow" my answer from the same place http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif with a few edits here and there, and a few additions. I've noticed quite a few of you listed your gear - I can't list all of mine or Dave will kill me for being a bandwidth hog (WHAT, me? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif ), but I'll list some things...

My name is Phil O'Keefe and I'm 38 years old... and my middle name is David. I have been engineering and producing for about 22 years now. I have an engineering degree from Cal State. I own a small commercial studio in Riverside California, where we do a lot of publisher demos, indie label stuff and occasional label projects. We do a lot of Contemp. Christian projects, and I have been involved as a staff producer / engineer for a couple of Christian labels. We also do "secular" projects too. Mostly Rock, acoustic, Blues, Country and some R&B, but not much Rap or other urban genres.

My wife (who occasionally reads these forums) is a former RCA recording artist and terrific singer, keyboardist and writer. I have two children (from a previous marriage) with RETTS syndrome - one of them passed away almost two years ago, the other's doing pretty well. I have two step-duaghters living at home, one of which's boyfriend is the lead singer for Alien Ant Farm (Dreamworks Records). Dryden lives here with us when he's not on the road, plus we have four dogs, so it's a pretty full house.

Anyone who'd like to take a look at our studio can check out the link below, but the equipment list and photos are WAY out of date. Some of the things we've added are a pair of Yamaha AW4416's which are digitally cascaded, 2 20 bit ADATs and lots of new computer stuff. I'm running Logic Platinum 4.7, Vegas Audio 2.0, SF 5.0, and more plug ins than you can shake a stick at... The main DAW machine is a PIII 933 MHz w/ 384 MB RAM, 100 GB of total HDD space (2 W/D 7200 RPM's), a MOTU Micro Express, a Tascam US-428 (Hi Jeff!) and a Frontier Dakota and Montana card for the 32 channel lightpipe I/O's over to the Yamahas.

Instruments? Well, I'm primarily a guitarist now days. I have a Taylor 510, '62 strat, mid 90's tele special, early 90's Rickenbacker 610, Epiphone Les Paul Standard special edition red sunburst flametop, Ibanez SR400 bass, Danelectro DC-12 12 string and a new Epiphone Casino I'm really getting into... but I guess that's all of more interest to the guitar forum. But amps can be of interest to keyboardists, right? I have a couple of old Fenders that I've personally hot rodded (a Princeton II with all high precision parts, DC heater mod, negative feedback removal switch, etc...) and a Super Champ that's been converted somewhere between stock and a Vox AC15 (it's running EL34 tubes and the preamp is now based on the Vox). I also have a POD, and it's great for keyboards...

Keyboards? Well, I'm a basher at best. I used to have a C3 and Leslie in the studio and kick myself for letting that go. I had only limited private lessons as a kid (about six months in high school and a bit more in college) but I play several other instruments - guitar / reeds / bass / banjo (:eek http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif etc. and theory's theory, right? I've got a Fatar Studio 90, Ensoniq ESQ-1, Alesis Nanosynth, two E-MU Proteus 1's (thanks for the second one Dan!) a E-MU ESI-32 w/ a SCSI card and CD-ROM drive, Roland R8-M, Alesis D4, KMX 8X8 MIDI patchbay, Roland U-220, MKS-100 with a dead (and totally worthless) disk drive, a E-MU Proformance / 1+ and a Roland GI-10 (as I said, I'm a better guitarist than keyboardist...) I got Sandy (my wife) a Kurzweil for Christmas, but that leaves the house over MY dead body (she'd arrange it, believe me! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif ). That's HER baby.

Mics? I have somewhere between 30 and 40 mics. Are you SURE you want to hear this? Okkkkaaaay.. two Telefunken ELA M 251 e's, a Stephen Paul modded AKG C-414 EB, a Rode NTK, two Oktava MC012's, E/V RE20, four Audix D2's, Sennheiser MD421, two RCA 74 B Jr velocity, Shure 315 ribbon, M3 LOMO head on a MC012 body, Shure SM57's (several), AKG C-414 EB P48, etc. etc. I just hit some of the highlights... I have others but I'm sure you don't want ALL the gory details. As far as preamps and effects, I have a two channel Vintech / Neve 1272 that I really like, some Presonus stuff, Bellari, Joe Meek, Ensoniq (2 DP/4's) and Lexicons...

Great forum Dave!

Best wishes and peace to all,

Phil,

Sincere best wishes to you and to the whole family. I'm not familiar with RETTS syndrome, but it sounds like quite a challenge. Thanks again for your help and friendship over the past several months. I wanted to let you know that it's appreciated.

You got me, now.

I'm called Dave Schuler. I've played keys since I was 10, and I'm going on 43 now. Gigged full time 'til I was 33. Then I went to school to major in Electrical and Computer Engineering and minor in music, math and computer science. Now I work for Intel Corp as a Hardware Applications Engineer. Still gig on weekends as often as I can.

Just bought my first "real" piano, a used Kawai 52" studio model, and I absolutely love it. No electronic keyboard I've ever played can touch it in terms of expressiveness. I gig with a Korg N1 and an old, one-eyed Ensoniq EPS. I keep my old Roland Jupiter 8 and Kurzweil K1000 at home. I use a Roland VS880-EX and Sonar for recording.

Love to play jazz. Like to play anything that entertains people.

I'm glad I found this place.

Awright...I guess it's okay, I've seen a couple other "non-keyboard" major types post here.

My name is Ted Hoffman. Got the Tedster thang 'cause that's what a lot of folks at work call me. Yep, I'm a postaholic... Guitar is my main instrument (collective gasp from the gallery).

I'm sort of a musical weekend warrior. Used to do it more full time, but with a family, y'know...wife, Deb, two sons, Andrew, 18, and Derek, 16, and a daughter Lindsay, 14.

Currently, I'm 44 years old...a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Aviation Weather Center in Kansas City (any of you who are pilots know what SIGMETS and AIRMETS are...our office issues 'em). Kansas City is a great place for blues, brew, and barbecue...so I kinda like it here. Graduated from Florida State with my B.S. in Meteorology in 1989 (I went back to school late). Originally from Michigan, but lived in Alaska for five years as well.

I guess I'm one of those who considers myself like...I play guitar, but I'm not really a guitar player...not in the "Pat Metheny" sense. I sing, but I'm not really a singer, not like someone who's really good. Same with songwriting. But, I have a heckuva good time.

Equipment...well, I have an old Korg DSS-1 and an upright piano, which I do plonk on from time to time.

Guitar stuff...I have a Guild acoustic...Fender Am Std Strat...Washburn A-20...and a Rick 360-12.

Amps...Marshall TSL-122...an older Marshall JCM 800 1x12 50 watt tube combo, and a 1970 Ampeg VT-22 (all tube amps).

I record to the computer using Cool Edit Pro. Works for demos. Use a Mackie 1402...JoeMeek VC3...Alesis Nanocomp...BBE Sonic Maximizer...and an ART verb.

Favorite artistes...Beatles, Bach, Brahms, Allman Bros., Tom Petty, Todd Rundgren, Elvis Costello, B.B. King, ahh, the list goes on and on...although I appreciate musical acuity, I'm probably more into a good song than astounding chops...

Tedster! Welcome to keyboard land! Don't worry - the ladies will still like you. That's just a common misconception. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

So, in other words, without Tedster, FedEx is grounded!

Yeah, but from what I can surmise from the MP rumor mill, you've definitely mastered the Johnny Winter thing.

Well, I'm goin' to Kansas City, Kansas City, here I come...

Wow, all this time I thought this thread discussed Song intros...

I'm Scott "Botch" Boettcher, 41, currently working as a Project Engineer at Hill AFB, UT on ejection seat systems for the F-15, B-1 and B-52 aircraft. Besides music I'm also an avid furniture builder (that will be my "retirement" job), teach and enjoy nature photography, and enjoy hiking and downhill skiing (why I continue to live in Utah). I was an Air Force officer for 12 years (worked Electronic Warfare, nuclear weapon safety, and Minuteman missiles) and am still in the Reserves.

I came to playing keys kinda through the back door. Played trombone from gradeschool thru college jazz band, then my senior year inherited an old violin. Started playing country (for the money, man...) and soon was doodling on our lady lead singer's keys, and it kinda built from there. I have a modest home studio (G3 Mac, Layla, Vision DSP) and a pretty nice stage rig (Kurz PC88MX, Yamaha EX5, Nord Lead, Emu Proteus, effects, and a badass solidbody electric violin I found on ebay). Live playing's my main thrust, not that good but I have a good time and am currently playing with a band full of excellent singers, all 5 can sing lead AND harmony!

Enjoyed reading everyone else's background, we need to get together for a kegger or something.

Hi there!!

Here comes another guy from Scandinavia. I'm born, raised, and I still live in Norway....the land of the midnight sun, and the trolls!!! (those scary creatures with long noses, a big stomach, and four fingers on each hand). They can be cute too.....

My name is Espen, 29, trying to make a living of my music....and I don't give up that easily!!

My brother was a big inspiration for me as a little kid, as he played old tunes from Blondie and Rod Stewart http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/cool.gif. Some years later I got my first keyboard. I was a proud owner of a Technics KN600....anybody know this one? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Throughout my teens I didn't do as much music as I should. Actually it wasn't until I attended Berklee College of Music in '97, that I really found my path. And today I play around in three different bands in Norway, and I'm happy with that http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

My musical interests are many: Jazz (Herbie Hancock, Joey Calderazzo, Chet Baker etc), pop (Toto, Sting, Jamiroquay), blues (mostly piano-blues from guys like Memphis Slim, Dr John, James Booker, Ray Charles), funk (Herbie Hancock, James Brown, The Meters). And of course lots more.

My gear: ( Not much, but for the moment I'm only doing live gigs, no home studio for me. I'm planning to buy the Digi 001 and a Mac this fall).

Yamaha P80

Yamaha EX-5

Korg CX-3 with Leslie 900

I will also upgrade my collection with a Rhodes, and some analog keys.

Regards from

Espen

Ahhh, Dan, if it were only true, I could die a happy man... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Johnny's my idol. Even though he's toasted himself during his life...he kinda defines blues and (gravelly scream) ROCK N' RO-OOOOLLLL to me...

Somehow, I find this statement rather unsettling...like, suppose after you retire I buy some of your furniture, like a recliner, and pull the handle and it blows me through the ceiling...HAHAHAHAHA....

Reading these posts I feel really young...

My name is Nate Moore, I am fifteen and live in Maine. I got my (first) keyboard this past Christmas and (until I find the time to take lessons) I have been teaching myself how to play with the assistance of a few books, CDs, and videos. I just found this place today, and it seems like a great place to learn about keyboarding.

I have been playing trumpet in my school band for three years and that is my only other musical experience.

My keyboard is a PSR-GX76 made by Yamaha.

Looking forward to learning a lot!

I did an intro in another thread but I think it got lost.

My name is David, I live in New South Wales, Australia. Have played keys for 17 years, and been involved in computer music for 8 years.

Currently own a JV-1080, Digi 001, Mac G4, MC-307 Groovebox, and a heap of samples. Also use Rocket Network heavily with Cubase to collaborate with other musicians across the globe. I have a couple of songs up on mp3.com (www.mp3.com/thirdstoreystory).

Nice to be here

Hi Nate, welcome.

I have family in Kennebunk, Maine...I love the air up there. Just keep playing, keep playing don't stop unless you just hate it. Also, there is no one way to learn...try anything that works for you.

Yeah, it's nice to be young and you can be sure I'll cherish every moment, but being in High School does have its drawbacks. For example, it's hard to get a good job and therefore hard to get good money. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif

Well, it looks as though Im the young one! Im 18 and have been playing keys for about 3 to 4 years. Not very long at all! I have played in several bands here in Atlanta, and last summer went on a 2 week tour to Ireland with a group called Waterproof Feat. I currently take lessons from a Lady who graduated from Berckly and majored in Jazz, and she now writes with the top writers in Nashville (shes incredable!)I first began playing on a Studio Logic with an Alesis NanoPiano, and about to purchse a Yamaha S30. And am looking to go to Belmont in Nashville in the spring. But plans might change depending where this band thing goes. I just hope that somehow I can make a decent living if I major in music!

Well it looks like im coming into this post pretty late, but here goes. My name is fergal, and come from ireland, im also 18. i started piano lessons when i was about 7, but lost intrest at about 14. i took up the french horn and instantly got put off music (good ol' brass instruments!) about a year ago i got into jazz, blues and The Doors and suddenly the keyboard became intreasting again so i ran out and bought a Yamaha PSR 520. i moved away to university this year (for Computer and Electronic Engineering) along with a guitarist and bassist from the my home town, so we started a band. I now know how crap the yamaha is so im buying an Oberheim OB3^2 (which seems the cheapest good B3 rip off). Our band cant be arsed doing covers, which just take up time so got straight into writing originals. we're going to record them this summer (cocky or what!) and see how things go from there.

Hi everybody!

My name is Vladislav and this is my first posting here.

(I thought it would be logical to introduce myself before getting into

any discussions and other complex conversations. Yeah, complex at least for me because English is not my main language. So, I am sorry in advance for any possible awkwardings here!)

Okay. I am 37 and I live and work in Tallinn, Estonia. My daily job is to record and mix various ad jingles for local Estonian radio stations. I do this in the production studio of the company called Trio (and this is also the place from where I have access to the Net). Also I write my own music and try to do this mainly in my home studio. (In the past I've played in several professional bands on bass and there are some recordings out).

So far I rely exclusively on Ensoniq synths (just love how they sound!): TS-10, SD-1 and (my main horse) Mr Rack. Outboard effects: Behringer's Modulizer Pro and Zoom 2000. Modest stuff, isn't it? (Soon hope to expand a little http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif).

Recently I bought a computer, a midi interface (AMT 8), Emagic's Home Studio Kit and started trying to use Logic Audio Discovery. So far audio works just fine. Midi is my main headache. (The machine always crashes when I try to do some midi sequencing http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/confused.gif but that's another story. Maybe some day when I collect enough courage I would post an appropriate topic regarding my unluck with Logic and all this midi-mess).

What else? Oh, yes! My wife is a singer and our two cats try to sing as well from time to time http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.

best regards

Vladislav

I am back.

I am a 31 year old doctor and relativly new midi hobiest. I use at this point an MC505 which I love, however can't find a memory card for and the bitch is full. I also have a CS1X, Prophet 500 and several low end drum machines. I love electronica, however I am not now or ever aspiring to be a pro. The doctor thing keeps me buisy enough. I could definately use some help with the basics.
