Hi everyone, this is a great thread, it's interesting to see all the diverse background and location of everyone here.
My name is Chris, I'm 20 years old and attending university in Hamilton, Canada. My musical background started with piano lessons at age 6, eventually picking up guitar at 14, while learning trumpet, baritone and bass in high school. I focused on guitar for quite awhile, won a few solo competitions, and have been in a few "bands" that didn't last very long. I eventually became interested in keyboards and composition again, and I loved the idea of recording using software instead of the 8-track Portastudios which drove me nuts. (sorry TASCAM guy!)
I'm still new to this, butI'm learning as much as I can on my own. This forum and keyboard mag have helped quite a bit too.
My current gear consists of:
Korg M1
Korg Triton
Parker Fly guitar
GT-3 effects board
PC running Cubase 5, ACID, SoundForge, Reason, Rebirth
various softsynths/samplers (love the B4 right now)
My musical tastes and influences are all over the place, but I'll list some here.. Pat Metheny, Weather Report, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, John Scofield, Delerium, Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, Bjork, Rush, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Brian Eno, Esthero... quite a mix of jazz/pop/electronic
