I'm good for a round or two - and I don't care what brand you all drink or whether you like it hot or cold.

Folks on this forum rock. :thu:

Is There Gas in the Car?

Yes there's gas in the car! Thanks Tom, I'll have one or three of these - (surprised no one mentioned it yet)

I agree with JustDan, Pilsner Urquell is also a damn fine beer.

Heineken's not bad either. I like to call it 'the original imported beer'. When I were a young lad, an apprentice beer drinker, in those days, it seemed most bars had Heineken, even if they had no other imported beers. This is from the point of view of a Canadian, back in the 60's and 70's.

Here's another thing about beer. When I was 15, my mom died, and my dad took me and sister back to Wolverhampton, England, where I was born. I got to experience English beer in pubs. Thas was a fantastic, memorable experience. They were very liberal over there in those days with regards to drinking. I could buy beer in pubs or take-aways, unaccompanied by an adult, even though I was only 15. I don't even know what the legal drinking age was. Maybe they were dazzled by my brazen confidence :) Which does go a long way in general, I've found.

I can't remember the brand names of the pub beer I drank, but I usually preferred 'bitter'. Over there, you can usually get either a 'mild' or a 'bitter' version of each brand of draught beer in a pub. At least, back then you could. The bitter wasn't really bitter, it was just stronger-tasting than the mild. They also used to make a gross drink called 'shandy', which was beer mixed with a soft drink, usually ginger ale or 7-Up. That was popular with women. I've heard that the mild/bitter thing is dying out. If that's true, then it's a shame. The beer wasn't ice-cold, it was just a few degrees below room temperature. And it didn't fizz much. But it tasted fantastic. I'd love to go back there and try it again.

Ahh Guinness Draught - Nectar of the Gods.

In the late 90's I spent a week in Dublin for a business conference. A colleague and I arrived in the morning from an overnight flight. We checked into the hotel, had a quick breakfast and headed immediately over to the Guinness Hop Store for a tour. At the end of the tour, you are dropped into their little sampler pub where you get to enjoy the tasty treats. This was at 10:00 AM. It was the perfect day.

It seemed to me in Dublin that they run the Guinness supply lines parallel to the water supply since it looked like there was a Guinness tap almost everywhere there was water. What a wonderful experience. I also learned about Smithwick's at the time as well, since it was not available in the States at that time.

My company has a training facility connected to a hotel with a bar. When I used to teach there we would (naturally) spend our evenings in the bar. The bartender was an older Irish gentlemen. All you ever needed to order was a pint of "Mother's Milk". Boy those were the days.

I really wish they would bring Kilkenny to the States. I had that in Paris, and it's also a wonderful brew.

They don't have Kilkenny in the States?! What a shame.

I was in Copenhagen, Berlin, Prague and Vienna earlier this summer. Those are some beer cities. Mikkeler, Franziskaner, Pilsner Urquell and much, much more. Omnomnom.

Around here, I drink a lot of Big Rock, Alley Kat, Wild Rose, Granville Island, Unibroue, Dieu Du Ciel, Mill Street, Creemore Springs and Steam Whistle.

I visited Steam Whistle's brewery last year, very cool. Had a beer pulled straight off the line, date-stamped not three minutes prior. It was a beautiful feeling. :)

I was wondering how long it would take for a Chimay to show up on here...i almost posted it myself. The only question was red or blue.

Well, there's always a gift pack when in doubt. :thu:

Not to pile on the micro beers fad being done in 20 years...but they've been pretty popular for a good 30 years now!

As to the original question: vacation, hiring new drummers, and SCOTCH have been taking up a lot of my time.

These guys brew in Eugene, about an hour down I5 from me, and Total Domination is one of my favorite IPAs. Other local brews I dig include Calapooia, Oakshire, & Hop Valley. Oregon is doing some really great beer these days, one of the reasons I like living here.

'Cuz Coors is Canoe beer...too fucking close to water.

Have to try some of that. We have Genny Bock here, but it's seasonal :(

Ah, yes. That's how Shiner used to sell their bock. It became so popular, they figured out how to make it all the time. Now, it's the defacto Shiner beer.

Late 2010 I spent two weeks in London. Completely ruined me for any type of American beer.

So, tell me, did they still have 'mild' and 'bitter' versions of beer in London pubs?

To tell you the truth, I don't recall. I went right to "bitter." In college decades ago I had an acquaintance from Manchester who used to talk up the "real ale" of his part of the world, and I recognized many of the names on the tap.

Here's an interesting Polish Porter. May not be easy to find everywhere but worth the effort:

Padron Londres here. Doesn't need a snort to go with it. ;)

Did I mention the time that Avo Uvezian gave me a stash of his cigars when I was playing in Basel?

Dogfish is one of my faves. :thu:

I visited their brewery in Delaware last year. Great tour and tasty samples as well. Also, their pub at Rehoboth Beach, DE serves excellent food plus they also produce some unique brews in small batches onsite. Highly recommended:

I just now clicked on this thread - I guess I should have known that such an unassuming thread title that's grown to 3 pages had something cool going on! You guys are making me thirsty. I believe I just heard Samuel Adams calling my name.

And JustDan, I've copied and pasted your list of breweries. Next time I'm in The Lou I'll have a few more stops to make besides the two Guitar Centers!

I steam seafood with Yuengling. But, I'm drinking a variety of microbrews. Some good stuff in there.

It doesn't much of an excuse to toss back a brew or three. Drink up folks. :thu::cool:
