  1. 'We"re just all paralyzed by fear' - good call. If there really is supposed to be a vaccine in say 5-6 months, I"m pretty good with not risking death to play a rousing rendition of honkey tonk women for a bit longer at this point, not that there are any gigs in my area even if I wanted to play one.
  2. That"s really not what he said. Pretty sure he states that all racists like the genre and use it extensively. That"s quite different than anyone who enjoys southern rock is racist. So you want to tar an entire great genre as racist. I've lived in the South for 40 years, done alot of Southern rock and country gigs during that time (as well as alot of blues gigs as the integrator) and let's just say my experience differs from yours. Southern rock has a lot of great songs from bands integrated and not, but as cover band musicians we only think of the ones we're sick of because we've had to play them a zillion times. If it were up to me I would have a SR setlist with alot of Wet Willie (Country Side of Life, Keep On Smiling), Marshall Tucker (This Ol' Cowboy, Heard It on a Love Song) and any ABB or Skynard tunes would be ones like Whiskey Rock & Roller, I Know a Little, Southbound, Jessica- fresher, less-played material that fits in nicely with music by Delbert McClinton, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat and the Band. The last group of which some might object to being associated with SR but featured many songs about Southern culture without portraying it as rotten and evil at it's core. As an example- The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. That one alone, it seems, would necessitate their being cancelled (incidentally, by far the best version was sung by Dobie Grey at the Tennessee Volunteer Jam. I would encourage anyone to Youtube the Tennessee Volunteer Jams, to get the best representation of Southern rock. It was anything but "whites only"). It seems sadly inevitable that politics and culture wars and cancel culture will poison every aspect of our lives, including music, but there seem to be policies in place at this forum to prevent that. For now.
  3. Oh definitely. One particular band I was in for 9 months to help get established in a new market. The sweaty human cube of a band leader/lead singer was constantly lowering things by like a 5th and ruined some perfectly good songs for me: Rikki Running On Empty How Sweet It Is Hip to be Square Home Green River Take It Easy Missing You Josie Smiling Face Yep, there might be more!
  4. How aggressive! Record number of cases here, but rock on.
  5. I liked my Traynor K4 quite a bit in hindsight. Been on my EV powered speakers a good 5+ years, still a fan.
  6. Oh definitely, I"d at best be 50/50 about accepting this prestigious invitation under normal circumstances...but the dude either being delusional or outright lying from the get go make it a no-brainer.
  7. I mean, debates on when to get back to rehearse is the first hurdle. Do I trust random musicians or even a few in my main band? Nope. Might not even rehearse until July at this rate, and I"m not even close to the most skittish in my group. Three weeks ago I was invited to audition for a random group. The guy assured me they all took social distancing very seriously, and yet, they were inviting a stranger (me) to a rehearsal.
  8. Always a good topic. I currently have a Spider Pro, a platform style with second attachment, Z with second attachment, and a basic X. Z is by far the most stable, but also the most difficult to transport and setup, by far. I find myself using the platform for single board gigs, and the Spider for two or three board gigs...but in reality, I haven"t used three boards at a gig in at least 5 years. So basically, I love my Z, but it stays at home. Spider Pro not quite as stable as the Z, but stable enough when not using a 50+ pound board. Not sure I"d trust my Yamaha on it. Love the platform stand for stability and ease of transport. That thing folds flat in 5 seconds and you can pretty much sit on it, second deck gets a bit wonky, so don"t really use it anymore. Spider Pro definitely the coolest of my stands, always gets comments.
  9. Lol, I had to re-read the entire thread before I understood (I think) the question. Really looking for 'sleeper keyboardists' that front bands?
  10. With everything considered in this thread I"d go NS3 Compact. This is probably my next planned purchase as I usually run one board. In fact with my current live projects, I've been running just my NE3 73 and been mostly fine with that. For me, upgrading to the to the NS with the same footprint, with greatly upped technology and a synth section will have me pretty set for my needs.
  11. Made Jamaican Jerk Chicken cooked using wood yesterday.
  12. Great tips, thank you! You think that vent being closed is good enough? Mia (daughter) was playing Nocturne in F# just now, sounds fantastic!
  13. Pics to prove it happened!
  14. Room prep shot...still thinking on exact piano placement. Lol, gave up posting via phone, took 30 seconds on actual computer, thanks for help tough.
  15. Was trying to do from my phone, which always switches it back to jpeg no matter how I try to convert, I"ll try from my PC...sigh, so 2003.
  16. Trying to upload some room prep pics, converted Pics to jpeg, well under file limit size, keeps telling me file type is blocked, what"s the deal? First time of tried posting a pic since the migration. Is the site so sensitive the files need to literally be 'jpg' as opposed to 'jpeg'?
  17. Nice, never realized there was an L brotherhood! I"ll post pics on Friday.
  18. Yeah, he"s not the overlord of what is right in music mixes. He"s supposed reinforce, not edit the band. It"s amazing how often I prefer set and forget over the random sound guy. I had two gigs with two random sound teams this weekend. The first one was a bit wanting overall, but I had no complaints about my mix, no problems hearing myself with any patches. The second gig, at one of the larger clubs in town, clearly had not worked with keys a lot , couldn"t hear my Clav patches in my monitor at all, EP"s we"re a bit better, Organ and Piano were fine. Always such a crap shoot, but with a repeat offender in your case, something needs to change!
  19. Thought I"d start a fresh thread instead of hijacking the other thread. Been on a quest for a grand for a couple years, a cross country move delayed things a bit, but with my daughter in her Junior year in high school and wanting to tackle Rachmaninov for her Senior year, it was time to actually do it....not to mention I"ve never personally owned a grand and will get countless hours myself. So we worked with a couple of dealers in the area and an L popped up on consignment. It"s a 1984, one owner (estate situation) that had regular maintenance records. The fully certified tech shop is putting it through the proper paces (inspection, regulation etc.) and we had my daughter"s piano professor inspect it as well....was in great shape aside from some slight scratches on top that have been addressed. Satin finish, looks gorgeous. We were trying to keep it under 6"0 given the room it will live in, so a shade under 5"11 looks like the sweet spot. Next phase will be deciding exactly how to place it in the room, open to ideas on that front. I"ll post some pics on Friday, very exciting!
  20. Delivery Friday, feels like adding a member of the family!
