I'm looking for a really simple piano app for my new Galaxy S24 Android phone. Just as a tool when there's no piano available. For example, at a choir mini-rehearsal, just to get pitches (I don't have pitch memory, aka 'perfect' pitch'. Something I can play ideas on. Real basic. All I need is to display a keyboard, one or two octaves (hopefully sizeable), and produce a piano sound, doesn't have to sound great, but it would be nice if it did. I want an app with no ads that doesn't collect any data. I'm willing to pay money, but I want to own my copy of the app. But, I've searched on Google Play (App Store for Apple users), and I can only find free apps that collect data, and have ads. I guess I must be in a very small minority who are willing to pay some money for an app. I did find one free app called Minimal Piano by Mario Ruoff, it has 50K+ downloads. It claims to collect no data, and be ad-free. So, 1) does anyone know of a paid piano app that's ad-free and doesn't collect data? 2) anyone know this Minimal Piano app? Is it really what it claims? Thanks

I don't know if that one would work - the cable is not connected to the wall wart, and there's no barrel plug! 🙂

Right, I found a couple like that on Amazon and Walmart. My only worry is if the barrel connector will fit.

I'm in need of a Yamaha PA-6 AC adapter, which is an older, discontinued model. I was wondering if anyone has one laying about that I could purchase. Or, has anyone found an alternative brand that can take the place of a PA-6? There are lots of AC adapters for sale, but the main "bone of contention" is whether the barrel connector, that goes into the back of the synth, will fit or not. Thanks.

Mike, you actually have until October 2025 before MS ends support of Windows 10. -
Nice 👍

Nice chart, Jazz+. There's one thing I'm not sure of - just before the B section, there's a note that says "2nd time 1+ 2 + + + + +" What does that indicate?

Cry Me A River - Arthur Hamilton, question

I'm starting to like the idea of playing Ab7 in bar 4 of the bridge. Possibly with a D7 in the 2nd half of the bar. Just a straight Ab7, no #9. But the Ab7 provides a nice contrast to all the Eb7's. -

BTW, my above post is intended to be a satire of the "corner commentary" youtube vids. I put about 30 seconds effort into it, so, not sure if I succeeded . -

I usually play an Eb7 (possibly with a #11) at that point, rather than an Ab7. That is, a split bar, Eb7 to D7. (Or Am7b5 to D7, which functions the same way). -

Exactly. There are an increasing number of Youtube vids of some guy playing another Youtube vid, with a small vid of him in the corner, giving his "commentary" on the other vid. It's a cheap, low-skilled way to generate "content", and I do my best to avoid them. I'm not sure which is the worse abuse of technology - auto-tuning Hey Jude, or posting someone else's video with your face in the corner giving "commentary". (Which might have been DrSynth's point? I'm not sure) -
NYT Says Taylor Swift Is Bigger Than The Beatles!? WTF

Thanks for posting that, it's charming, and quite amusing! I'm not saying this to be mean - I admire (and covet) their youthful enthusiasm, taking on challenging material - that's the way you do it! The guitar player is obviously good, they all are, really, and are on their journey. But, on the humorous side, I can imagine the phone call to, let's say, the bass player: "Hi, Tyler? This is Brandon Patterson - do you, um, still play bass? Do you think you could play with our band, Blenkinsop, this Saturday? What music do we play? Well, mostly just a bunch of old rock and roll songs, you know, Johnny B Good and that kind of stuff. You can? All right! Thanks, man. We start at 1 pm, can you be there by 12:30? Great!" -
I had an ESQ-1 in the 80's, and got some good mileage out of it. I remember the nice warm sound (which I assume had a lot to do with the filter). One memory I have is sequencing David Sanborn's '87 hit Chicago Song on it. That song was big in '87. I sequenced a version of it on ESQ-1, minus saxophone, and it was good. I wrote a sax chart for it, and tried to get people to play it on gigs. A really good player I know, a Sanborn fan, commented how good the ESQ-1 sounded. It wasn't the easiest sequencer to use. That was early days for sequencers. As I recall, I had to break the song up into 4 and/or 8 bar chunks, then string them together - I can't remember the details, just that it was labour-intensive. I never had reliability issues, but then again, I carried it in a decent hard case, and it was local gigging. I think I had it for a couple of years.
