Throbert
Generic Beer used to be tasty, hoppy and colorful, They went to shit back during WWII because all the women left at home wanted what we have now. Synthoid
Who's had this? http://www.dogfish.com/files/imagecache/bottleGridSize/DFH_miles_davis.png Dogfish is one of my faves. I visited their brewery in Delaware last year. Great tour and tasty samples as well. Also, their pub at Rehoboth Beach, DE serves excellent food plus they also produce some unique brews in small batches onsite. Highly recommended: http://www.beerblotter.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/img_2977.jpg When an eel hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a Moray. ITGITC
Unfortunately, the forum hasn't been ablaze with many new threads lately. I assume some folks are either too busy or away on vacation. Maybe if we had a party to liven things up. Tom could bring the beer... Not a problem, Mr. Synthoid! It would be my pleasure. I'm good for a round or two - and I don't care what brand you all drink or whether you like it hot or cold. Folks on this forum rock. Is There Gas in the Car? wmp
That's some mighty pricey brew. When I was young and thought I was rich I drank a lot of Augustinerbrau at $20 to $25 a case when Coors was about $4.50. I usually prefer stout, but I do like a good beer or ale. This is a tasty alternative to popular cheap beer. http://www.bestofneworleans.com/imager/harpoon-ufo-hefeweizen-harpoon-brewery-boston-m/b/story/1327538/44ae/feat2-3.jpg --wmp

J. Dan
The Boston area list is actually longer than St. Louis. I notice some glaring omissions. I would hope so, it's about twice the size not to mention all the tourists and visitors from neighboring cities. St. Louis City: 318k, total metro area: 2.7MM Boston: 625k, total metro area: 4.5MM This is a pretty good example of one of the things I like about St. Louis. it's a relatively small city - you can get from one end to the other in short order. But for being so small, we have all the major sports (except NBA, but we have college), concerts, great restaurants, wineries nearby, microbrews. There's a fair amount of culture, LOT's of great parks including the biggest city park in the country, one of the best zoo's (that's also free). Crime, weather, and transportation sucks, but there's a lot of great stuff going on. But that web site you and I linked to is pretty cool, isn't it? Youncan pull up any city, and if you click through the listed brewer's profile, they list the beers with ratings. J. Dan
I notice some glaring omissions. Are you sure they are Brewed there? i know of some "Boston" beers that are brewed elsewhere. The big brewers actually brew for some smaller companies. The craft brews will contract them to brew and package their redipe because they are already set up to do it with high quality control. It makes it easier to get into the market on lower capital investment. So they may be from Boston, amd have a business in Boston, but be contracting Miller or AB to brew and package it for them. hoggernick
Things in St. Louis sure don't show any signs whatsoever of slowing down. I just got back from a short family vacation up to St. Louis. First time up there in decades. We really enjoyed the city, stayed downtown, but only toured one brewery - the schlafly taproom. They make some really good beers, and luckily we get a lot of their seasonals on tap in Arkansas. wmp
I notice some glaring omissions. Are you sure they are Brewed there? i know of some "Boston" beers that are brewed elsewhere. Not in every case. I know Sam Adams has a brewery in JP, a Boston neighborhood, but they also brew elsewhere. Last time I looked, Latrobe was in Pennsylvania. But they seem to be brewing at AB in St. Louis too. Years ago I used to play the Commonwealth Brewery who brewed on site. They're still at it and not listed. Same for a few other bar / restaurant / breweries I used to play. That St. Louis listing is probably incomplete as well. I don't know much about beer, but I know what I like. I like that unfiltered Harpoon quite a bit. Some of my favorite beers have been home brews. Dark Truth Stout looks awesome. I wasn't recommending that anybody actually visit Boston. Crime is off the hook around here. Just noting that beer is everywhere. I suppose Coors and Prestone are everywhere too, but you don't have to drink it. --wmp
