  1. In another thread a Fender rumble was mentioned with a 12 inch speaker. I see they have a 15 inch. I've been thinking about a 15 for deeper organ bass. And 34.5 lbs. Thoughts? Though, if you were to play more solo piano, I'd go with 2 Alto or other twin speakers for stereo effect. https://www.amazon.com/Fender-Rumble-Bass-Combo-Amplifier/dp/B00HWINO88/ref=sr_1_2?crid=874VNN202CAC&keywords=fender%2Brumble%2B100&qid=1662163727&sprefix=fender%2Brumble%2B100%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-2&th=1
  2. Read lots of comments on various forums and didn't see any concerning his health. I'm from Philly area but never got a chance to talk to him. I did see him eating at a club I guess he was in his 30's maybe. Huge plate of pasta. He was really overweight and I thought then, man that's pushing it. Feel so sorry for his father. I did talk to him at one of his gigs and he was so proud of him. Way too soon for so much talent to leave.
  3. Agree, I got sick on a hot afternoon gig from the generator fumes that was too close to the stage.
  4. I stopped relating and patronising things that used to be affordable, like going to a major league game. How many times does an athelete get a huge contract and choke after it? A quarter billion dollar QB in Cleveland and apparent head case. Congrats owners and fans. Nothing makes sense anymore. Like someone apparently thinking or not, they can get away with drug use in Russia during time of war and maybe swapping out dangerous criminals for them in return. Music related, I wonder if the house was full for this? https://slippedisc.com/2021/08/yuja-and-yannick-to-reopen-carnegie-hall-at-10k-a-seat/
  5. Agree. I bought a K&M tabletop stand and it's solid but could fold better and heavy. Bought a used Omega and thought has anyone cut the main beam in half and reinforce it with a sleeve with pins or locking reinforced hinge? It would seem to be easier to transport no? As for X stands, the one I used has been rock solid. It came with a metal bar reinforcement, forget the brand, and I added another. Easy to set up, but no good for organ pedals obviously.
  6. Selling the RMI was the closest I felt like a used car salesman. Inside I was giddy the guy was happily buying it. When I bought the rhodes used the guy said he was going to be a doctor. Little did I know he saved his fingers and was probably giddy I bought it. I still have the Mark 1 seventy three. Haven't played it in years. Would like to do the bump refurb though.
  7. When I sold my RMI for a Rhodes my ears liked it, but my fingers and back hated it.
  8. I don't see how it would help your playing if sight reading by curving the keys back making peripheral vision harder. Could help with wrist impingment in extremes, but that's why we're taught to tilt to help that out. To me a novelty museaum piece.
  9. There's nothing I hate more than out of tune music. How many bands tune up these days? A singer with a bad ear is obvious. But horn players. Wtf. I've played with a couple high school music directors that were so out of tune it was ridiculous. I subbed a friday the 13th gig for someone, no rehersal, and 3 horn jazz band. The leader didn't ask to tune up or do a sound check. The horns all out of tune. The bass player even mentioned it. Then they call a tricky chart that was so bad I couldn't follow them. It all sounded like sh_t. So bad I just stopped playing and I gets looks from the leader. Finally the next song, their horns warmed up or they adjusted, listened and things got better. I don't why it's taken for granted all will sound fine without a soundcheck first. Worst gig of my life.
  10. Years ago played a hot afternoon big band gig on one of those stage on wheels. I was by myself in a back corner. The place was using juice off a large portable generator that was too close to the stage. Halfway thru the gig I felt tired and losing it. I'm pretty sure carbon monoxide was getting in by me. Made it to the end of gig and felt like throwing up. We had another gig that night. I barely made it driving home wondering why I felt like shit. Slept a couple hours an felt somewhat better. I wasn't dehydrated before this afternoon gig and was in shade. So I believe I got some of that generator exhaust. Another thing to consider.
  11. I usually make a framed certificate for them and composer busts. The kids like them, but this year I had adults and just gave out composer busts. I hope your adult(s) can deal with the nerves. One had a really bad case of the shakes trying to get thru some Bach. Do you guys start off the recital and play a piece? I know some don't, but I do to give them an opportunity to hear different music. Not flashy, something calming.
  12. Few years ago I had one made for my Kronos 88. Love it. https://www.roadcases.com/keyboard-cases-by-brand-and-model/
  13. They say they're drilling plastic tanks so sparks don't happen. Those supposedly can't be fixed. I just read an article people rigging trucks and stealing gas from stations in Vegas and selling it in Calif.
  14. Some people were drilling holes in tanks to steal gas. Tanks can't be repaired. WTF
  15. We're all spoiled. I bitch about some of the the AP's that came in the Kronos. Then I think back to the sound of my first board. RMI, and get over it.
  16. Art Blakey and the jazz messengers when Bobby Watson and James Williams was with him. Talked to him couple times between sets in of all places the bathroom. He liked to drink while playing. Thing I remember most about him is at the end of sets, he told the audience 'without you, we are nothing'. Don't hear that these days. Bill Evans a year before he died. Said hello to him. Nice guy. Surprised he was so tall. He apologized to the audience for the piano being out of tune. He didn't seem happy about it, but it sounded ok to me except for a few notes. The spot had an upstairs level so I was looking down watching his hands. His hands worked so well together. Brian Auger. Really glad to hear him with his family band. Talking to him was really pleasant. Super nice guy.
  17. Cool what he did with the Rach preludes. This could also be titled for students, look what can happen if you learn to read music and practice.
  18. Last time I looked for running shorts I only found ones that went to the knee. Didn't want that length and pricey. Was at a Walmart and the swim trunks length was shorter and basically the same material as running shorts. $6
  19. I once read that Yuja Wang commented on her dress that some places sell audience tickets up front on the right side of the piano not able to see the keys faster than on the left, being able to see the keys. She thought it funny though. I'm sure they just have bad hearing in right ear. Personally, whatever it takes to sell tickets to keep the music going. Her playing and memory is unreal. She's playing all of Rach's concertos and Paganini variations this season. I also read she was to open Carnegie halls season after covid shutdown with seats going for 10k a piece.
  20. An experience I had while not Fedex but UPS. I ordered a new Kronos 2 88 from a store in NYC shipped UPS. I asked for a signature delivery and was told yes. The board came across the country from west coast and I found UPS just dropped it in the middle of my driveway feet from the street. No notice. Any car could of taken it. Anyway, it had a keyboard problem and the store sent another one to me after I returned it. Again, I asked for a signature delivery, was told yes but the same thing happened. Dropped off in driveway by street, no signature and no notice. Anyway, that board was fine. Obviously, these were original packaging and new boards. Good luck.
  21. I walked into a Music and Arts store once and for some reason about 15 kids on strings were trying to play a single note together with a conductor. Glad I got out of there, but it's called practice for a reason.
  22. This would give Bennie Hill ideas. I'd guess girls liked it though.
