  1. Playing at a restautant I got a request from kids to play the Mr Rogers theme Beautiful day in the neighborhood. But after playing that simple melody, couldn't remember where it went. Listened to Guaraldi and he took it all over the place.
  2. Trust my gut feeling and not trust those out for themselves. Easier said than done. Wish I had stuck with Bach more when I was younger. Didn't realise how important fingering was playing conterpoint personally. I do now and it's helped immensely. The Inventions, WTC etc will really help your technique.
  3. I had a torn labrum fixed years ago, but now developed bursitis in that left shoulder. There were times I said I have to get it fixed as I couldn't even sleep on that side in bed. Doing stride irritates it. I can feel it as I type, but been putting up with it as it has gotten better and can now sleep on that side. Not sure what to do. In my sixties. Ortho said he could shave the burr off. Wonder about recovery time. Have steady solo gig.
  4. Knowing where to set the string, pins, dealing with false beats takes time. Not to mention stretch preferences.
  5. I play in a big band. We've been rehersing with digital metronome last couple weeks to get really tight. Sure can be painful, but it works.
  6. Thanks for posting this. In the seventies, I wondered what it would be like to study with Lennie Tristano.
  7. I would imagine your soreness in right hand is from the interval stretch of m6, p5 and M3 in Linus and Lucy. That can be tough if you haven't worked on things to open up your hand which I would suggest taking slow to prevent injury. Simple one octave arppegios in Major, minor and diminished. Also parellel harmonic 3rd, 4th intervals. Might want to massage your hands and fingers before and after. Go easy. Then try holding down the L and L intervals and relax.
  8. Agree with the zip tying! I had one smart one too doing the same. Was about to go the glue method but Youtube had a guy showing tying a walnut with the ziptie. I got it an hour later. The key is also finding where they get in. In my case, they were getting in thru bottom of a screen door tear. I sealed it and so far so good.
  9. Mozart in the Jungle by Blair Tindall was an interesting book on classical scene. Not sure how it relates to this thread, don't have time to read it all.
  10. Met him at a club and talked after. Really nice guy.
