  1. I tuned a new customers piano yesterday. When I opened it up, a tuner business card with the pianos tune info on it was there. Turns out we went to same piano tech class at university decades ago. Haven't seen him in decades. He was old then. The piano was last tuned in 2009 by him. Googled him, turns out he died a year later. Would be 95 today if still living. Time marches on.
  2. Yeah, lot of history was in that store. Bought my first Real book there under the counter plus other equipment. Fixed my leslie 145. Just a great repair team. Wonder where now? Seemed like every band in area playing had a connection there. Everything I bought worked. Can't say the same for 8th St music from my experience with that amp. But they were listed dealer to go thru. I read some not so cool stuff online about Bennie maybe getting taken advantaged of towards the end. Sad.
  3. I used to go to Cintioli's in Philly who had great repair dept. Sadly, Bennie died and it's closed. Last time I needed a repair, I bought an amp from a store and took it to a mainline store. They couldn't fix it. I sent it back to the factory and it came back unfixed. The amp in question was discounted when I bought it. After all this, I found out it was delivered to the store after falling out of the UPS truck. I bought a new one from same store and it works fine. Just goes to show what some places do to make a sale. Good luck on the search. I guess I'm in the same boat. If I need a repair I guess I'd have to use a place the maker recommends.
  4. The faster speed on this fugue compared to J3PO fugue speed is demanding.
  5. Very nice and from memory. That fugue is no joke with 7 sharps key sign and double sharps. On a piano with weighed action and hands based over the blacks it's a reality check for finger independence.
  6. What gets me lately is, everyday it seems sometimes exactly when I pick up my smartphone, I get a spam call. I guess they know when your on it.
  7. Hard to escape any of this datamining. I just went to a ortho doc for a shot in shoulder acting up. They send 2 emails to fill out prior. One for med history, ok. But the other, to see your info history, scheduling and meds etc. from a different company. Read the privacy links to that the lawyers wrote up and you're signing up for a service. No thanks. After 911, privacy took a hit with terrorists and I got no problem with that personally myself. Look at what just happened in NZ. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/new-zealand-attacker-shot-dead-after-injuring-people-mall-2021-09-03/ All this leads me to ask if anyone stopped posting upcoming gigs on FB or other media? Thieves can be looking at when you're not home.
  8. Thanks for the responses. This is the first time I had to sign a solo contract so seeing the terms in there made me wonder how strict. Other places you play, and you just work it out. But the gig pays good bread, so I contacted the agent and asked about it. The 30 min arrival before gig is just for traffic consideration. Breaks can go 20 but no more. In the end, got to keep it pro. Included dress. So, nothing to worry about. I'll ask the management there what he wants and that's it. It's good to have a solo gig for a couple months. I'm wondering if I'll have to wear a mask. I prefer not, as I'm away from people on stage but whatever the rules are as I'm vaccinated. Thanks again
  9. That I can deal with. 50/10 is ridiculous. If someone comes up to talk to you at break you want to leave.
  10. Wonder if people who play upscale restaurants can share how much break time the restaurant allows between sets. For a 4 hour gig, I like an hour on, 1/2 off and did that at one place for a while with no problem. I filled in once at a different place, high end steakhouse and was told by agent the old 40/20 or however you want. That gig went good and they want me back, but was sent a contract stating 50 on 10 off. And show up a half hour before the gig actually starts. It's their grand piano, so no set up time for me. Are other players under these circumstances with a contract at high end places? Ten minutes is not much of a break for the fingers. And to show up and do nothing for 30 minutes? Is this the standard now?
  11. Do you guys use a case for pedals when gigging? Hate to scratch them up, but don't see them for sale.
  12. Thanks for sharing. Cool stuff. Wonder what the colored strips above the keys are for. Decoration or relating to pitch?
  13. Wow, remember reading about his drug problem, but not how it might of started. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Preston Great musician.
  14. When I use the footswitch with original mojo, it works correctly at first then eventually, I have to click it twice with foot to work. Anyone have that issue? I use half moon now without that happening.
  15. This is great sharing his knowledge. Thank you for putting this together.
  16. Anyone using one of these? Thoughts? I read a review concerning some play in the 2nd tier. For organ playing I have a KM 18950 with 2nd tiers. It's solid like a tank at 29 lbs with the tiers. The legs don't fold flat for transport though and for that reason will just keep in studio. This still is 25 lbs but legs seem to fold better. I don't see many tabletops with 2nd tiers. Too high for me for piano on 1st tier at 29 inches though but ok for organ with pedals. https://www.ebay.com/itm/143993228803?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=143993228803&targetid=1263433205654&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9007357&poi=&campaignid=11614424777&mkgroupid=121942480053&rlsatarget=pla-1263433205654&abcId=9300456&merchantid=8368054
  17. Recently tuned a Baldwin 5'8" grand that was 50 years old but in mint condition, hardly played. Had great bass and needed only someone to play it and keep it tuned. Old guy moving out of his house. Someone got a steal at $2500.
  18. Nice re-arrangement by Chick on Spain and getting the audience involved at the end. Patitucci with an excellent solo on Lifeline at 45 min. Chick looks like no charts, all from memory. The Scarlatti cool arrangement. Excellent video work and Chick controlling the monitors stage mix it seems.
  19. Definitely worth watching. The organic composition flow, arrangements and interplay. Man, miss him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-XZu8DBLSs
