  2. I’m throwing this question out that I got from a band mate today for any DS-61 owners. According to her, every patch had just, in her own words,”gone into vibrato mode”. She describes it as sounding like a digital Leslie oscillation. She did a factory reset to no avail and there is no modulation wheel on it it, only a lever control. Any owner of one of these have any suggestions?
  3. I'm working up this James Taylor tune and think I have a pretty accurate chart of what the chords are. However, at this moment of the song (file attached), Goldings thows in a two chord move that I can't quite figure out. I've attached the snippet that I'm referring to. This first 2 times this occurs, this 4 bar phrase happens, I'm hearing: Fmaj7| Emin7| A9| Emin9 Aaug7| Dmin7| To my ears, the 3rd time the phrase, this is what he plays: Fmaj7| Emin7| |A9| Emin9 Aaug7+9 Aaug7b9| with the leading chord tone being C B A. To those with better ears, am I hearing this correctly? Thx! Secret Of Life - Live.3.wav
  4. When people ask me my age, I say “Too young for Medicare, too old for women to care…”
  5. I play occasionally at one casino where an old friend and a keyboardist does sound. Always a pure joy.

  7. According to one of his sons, who’s a friend of mine, his dad was an alcoholic. Apparently, during the initial jamming portion of IGDV, the song title was In the Garden of Eden. Story has it that the drummer, Ron Bushy came by the cottage and found Doug passed out from red wine on the couch. When he was finally aroused,he was asked how the song was progressing. Doug asked which one. Ron said Garden of Eden and apparently Doug attempted to repeat the title in his inebriated state. Henceforth history is made?
  8. I finally got to come back and read all the replies. I want to thank all the responses from the many talented members I truly respect. My final word on all the comments are that although I don’t entirely agree with all of them, my original post was simply to elicit ideas on what other sets of ears were hearing. I wasn’t comfortable with what I was trying to figure out and I knew that there was some tasteful stuff going on I wanted to hear better and incorporate it into my evolving part. In my mind, bringing in new ideas and approaches to how I create my own parts works for me. Stealing nuggets from the best players is a part of improving my playing. Again, I’m grateful for all your comments.
  9. I'm learning After Midnight for an upcoming gig and need some assistance. The song consists of 4 chords and I've discovered that what keyboard player is doing is simply not just playing triads. The track is buried just enough that I'm having trouble picking out what he's doing. I've experimented with open fifths and inverted fifths and am not satisfied with what I'm trying to come up with. The organ track is also sort of playing around with these chords and to my ears is adding up to a complimentary track to the piano. I hear octaves on the G chords and of course, the downward glissandos(sp?) are easy to emulate. What am I missing here? Shell voicings? Drop 3s? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! 10. I’m doing a gig on 4/12 with a very prominent PNW musician who puts these occasional gigs out where he plays with musicians he’s never worked with. He culls together 3 sets of material from songs the aggregate musicians sort of know and we do the gig with now rehearsals. I’ve got to learn ELO and Moody Blues tunes that I’ve never played. I’ve got my hands full with those 6 alone….
  11. Years and years ago when I worked in music retail, we had an ancient hard drive that contained some obviously bootleg tales from Motown sessions. How they were procured from s a mystery. Superstition was one of the tunes and as I recall, there were 4 Clavinet tracks. One of things I distinctly remembered was the EQ settings on each individual track was noticeably different …
  12. A caveat I would add to any ad is requiring a professional piano mover be hired ….
