Greetings. I am new here and amazed by what I've been reading. I actually got directed to the Reharm thread here.

I am a 52 year old engineer, not a working musician, although I do play in my church's praise band. I am largely self-taught. Played piano for a couple of years when I was 22 then didn't touch a piano for 25 years. When I quit playing I sold a Roland synth, Hammond M2 and Leslie. A few years ago I resumed playing, sold my Yamaha CP70B, and threw away my RMI386 because I couldn't give it away.

I now own:

Estonia 190 (6'3" grand)

Yamaha P90

Korg Trinity

Roland bass/midi pedals

However, my claim to fame here would be a stack of Keyboard magazines from the late 70's and early 80's that I still have. Wendy/Walter Carlos, Keith Emerson...and all those old ads.

Hey guys,

My name is Zach Tenorio. About two years ago, I had the privilege of working and touring with Yes lead singer Jon Anderson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT9mIl3vYPI

If you haven't heard, for the upcoming Yes tour, Jon Anderson was recently replaced by some guy the band found on Youtube. However Jon is still going strong and making music and I recently recorded this song with him. This song is dedicated to my grandfather who's been struggling lately.

It's called Forlolo. Enjoy!

Thanks and happy new year!

Hi Everyone, my name is Claudio Napoles. I have been posting for a few months now but just came across this "Introductions" thread. I currently play in a PR reggae band called GombaJahbari (www.gombamusic.com), along with some other reggae cover bands. I have been playing for about 20 years now (10 professionally) and currently started taking piano lessons once again to strengthen my versatility.

KB's I own: Nord Stage compact Rev.C, Nord Lead 3, Roland RD-300sx, Alesis Micron.

DAW: PC ProTools Rig w/ Digi 002. Manley Dual mono Preamp. Langevin Mini-Massive. Assorted Plug-ins (All legal and paid for!!!) Tannoy Reveal 6 active monitors. Lots of other boring but handy stuff.

I want to thank everyone in this forum for their knowledge and unbiased (most of the time) opinions. Hopefully I will be able to contribute in a positive manner to this forum. Peace.

Oh... Hai Guyz!

I've been here for many years, but kinda absent the last couple of them. Still, I love MusicPlayer forums!

About me, as a full disclaimer:

I am a Keyboardist, music producer and MD for hire, and the lead singer for my band, WoM. And yet my "day gig" is as M-Audio's Tech support / product specialist for Latin America.

Here is a -bad- video of my work as a keyboardist for hire, with Mexican band MOENIA:

- I am the keyboardist to the left of the stage -crowd's view-. If you fast forward to minute 8:15, they introduce me to the crowd :D -

And here, is the latest video of my own band:

Hey all

My name is Ross, and I'm 23. While my main instrument for 10 or so years has been guitar, in the past 2 years I've found myself being attracted more and more to the keys and the possibilities they hold - so much so that I consider it my main instrument now! I'm the music arranger for a church. I own a Nord Electro 2 73 and a Yamaha S03 that I got for free (you can't beat free!). Don't use the Yamaha for gigs though, only as a MIDI input device for my scoring workstation. I'm currently shopping for a stage piano of some kind, but I also have access to some pretty cool gear at my workplace ('57 B-3 w/ Leslie, 6' Baldwin grand and Yamaha CP-300). I look forward to having conversations with many of you and continuing to learn about keyboard-related things. So far, my experience lurking has been very informative!

I am a 52 year old construction worker and part time keyboard player/singer/mandolin player. I bought my first keyboard 39 years ago. It was a Ace Tone Organ for $75. I was in 3 or 4 crappy bands in high school that played 2 or three gigs each. At 30 I started playing again and have been playing in country or rock bar bands for that last 20 years.

I have been writing songs on and off. I think a few of them are marketable, but I haven't tried to sell them. Hey, my wife thinks they're good. Does that count?

I come from a family of musicians. When I was about 13, three of my cousins had a popular local band. They gave me the band bug. My father played sax in a traveling Big Band and was the MC for a traveling road show he put together. He was still playing in a band at 92 when he past away. I have a cousin that plays with a top rock band and has played and produced on many top selling albums for various artists. My son is a good singer and had a very popular local band for 10 years. I played in his band for a couple of years. Family Tradition!

I am not the greatest keyboard player, but I do pretty good playing Honky Tonk in bar bands. I am currently looking at getting a tone wheel clone and working on my organ techniques. I want to get an electro 3. I am currently cleaning house and slowing finding new homes for old keyboards.

Hello all,

My name is Jon(nickname "Tuck"), and I came here from the Harmony Central forums.

Being primarily self-taught, I've been playing keys since the age of 17. I'm 41(soon to be 42 next month) and I work as a network printer support technician, what IBM lovingly refers as a "key-operator" by day. My main genres are blues and funk, but lately I've been incorporating some jazz standards under my fingers. I've played in several types of bands in my musician lifetime, including rockabilly, funk, r&b, top 40, progressive rock, blues, Motown, jazz fusion and classic rock. I currently play keys in 3 bands(blues, classic rock and jazz fusion). I also compose material at home and have written several tracks, some of which can be found on my jazz fusion band's latest CD.

My gear comprises of a Yamaha S80 which is my main board of choice for all things piano, a Korg CX3, Yamaha EX7, Korg X2 and Korg MicroKorg. I also have a Stage 73 with about 6 dysfunctional keys(broken tines??). My amp is the unpopular Roland KC550. During gigs with the blues band, the CX3 is patched through a Leslie 25/Fender Bassman setup provided by the guitarist. My influences: Jimmy Smith, George Duke, Leon Russell, Otis Spann, Charles Brown, Henry Butler and Keith Emerson, to name a few.

Kronos 88 Platinum, Yamaha YC88, Subsequent 37, Korg CX3, Hydrasynth 49-key, Nord Electro 5D 73, QSC K8.2, Lester K

Ivan,

Welcome to The Forum. Why do they call you "Pale"?

Regards,

Joe

Ah, I get that question a lot, and I never know the answer since the nickname got stuck on me while I wasn't present. Some of my (now) ex-bandmates just started calling me like that, for reasons unknown to me. It was more than 10 years ago. People rarely call me Ivan, I'm Pale to almost everyone. Except my mother :)

But it has nothing to do with being pale in color. I'm not from a english speaking country, so the context is all different. Pronunciation too.

Hello All,

I have been lurking/posting a little here for awhile and realized I have never introduced myself.

so....

I have been playing organ since I was 10 yo. I am 45 now. I have been playing in basement/bar bands for most of my life.

I tought night school electronics for 20+ years. So I usually lurk for repair/tech questions to help with. I have to say this is such a great collection of musical knowledge. I can't believe the quality of the advice (or the personal).

I have a bunch of keyboards/synths but currently ( like many of you ) I love to gig with my Electro 2. The last few years I have been playing with my alesis HD24, learning much about recording.

When not backing up string bangers and shouters, You can usually find me moderating on the Combo Organ Nation. I have a lot of posts on there helping folks keeping these early machines running. ( as well as a dirty little secret about the Nord Electro 2).

http://combonation.proboards89.com/

and, you will also find me helping people repair their Oberheim Xpander/M12 ( My most favorite synth ) on the Xpantastic user group.

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/xpantastic/

I don't teach anymore, but I am happy to help with techie questions or repairs.

I also hail from St.Louis originally.

I belong to a couple of forums where I learn many things related to my particular applications.

But this forum seems like home............LIVE PLAYERS !!

It's difficult trying to communicate about live MIDI and performance tricks to guys who record one track at a time and sequence their Romplers for mock ups.

Definately a different bag of tricks.

Look forward to learning even more here.

Another St. Louisan here...I've been lurking for quite a while and occasionally posting. I felt like I ought to introduce myself too. I'm 45, been playing since age 4. I did a lot of gigging through the 80's and 90's in a lot of different settings based out of St. Louis, from hair band rock to jazz trio stuff to country to "dueling pianos". I also taught at McMurray Music from 1985-1994, before leaving to go back to school. Now I'm retired from professional playing, but I still try to work on classical stuff and technique for an hour or two a day, and have a nice little basement studio where I can go down and get my Jordan Rudess on.

I played w/ JD Parran, Bob Kuban, Head East & Mamas Pride back when I was a youngsta. Ran off to Vegas and been everybody's bitch since 1982.

St.Louis was rockin' back in the day. Record companies use to come to the clubs and sign bands back then.

My old Road Crew runs Nashville these days so I get to play a wide variety of styles.

I prefer Synthesizers and Fusion but keep getting called up for Honky Tonk Piano & B3 chops.

Sure beats playing oppisite of a Karaoke act in a lounge on the strip though.....

Nice chatting with you guys and 2 hours a day keeps the bad chops away...

Musically ,I 'm in a funk /R&B band in which I hooked up with some real good musicians. I'll catch up with all of you sooner or later :snax:

Hi all,

I've been lurking here for about a month now so I guess I should introduce myself. My name's Alex, I'm 20 years old and I live in Montreal (eh?). I'm running what I like to call the college kit, a living room keyboard (Yamaha DGX-505) run through a guitar multi-effect pedal (Digitech RP150) and coming out of either a big Yorkville bass amp or a tiny old ion cube. All stuff that required a little compromise but the thing at least makes noise.

I was in a proggy metal band called Castalia through a lot of high school that unfortunately broke apart when we all went to different schools.

Our music can be found at www.myspace.com/castaliaband

I only just got with a guitarist last week so am now looking for musicians from around Montreal to get something going over the summer.

My influences include, but aren't limited to, Jordan Rudess, John Lord, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and their respective bands. I also really like making mashups of various popular music, especially video game music.

I'm completely ignorant when it comes to keyboard equipment which is what led me here in the first place. Any hints, tips or thoughts are appreciated and I'll keep reading up on my stuff.

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking around here for about a month. Have been a Keyboard subscriber since 1980, and a keyboard player since the late 70's. Keyboard Magazine Forums looks to be a lot of fun, and a great place to learn; wish I'd shown up a bit sooner...

But now that I'm here, it's time to kick this piece off with the intro:

I've been playing piano since age 7. My dad would take me along on his Friday night errands, in our hometown just outside of Chicago. This typically ended with his final stop being a visit to a friend who owned a local music store. While they talked, I would sit down at the piano du jour and attempt to coax music out of it. But all these early sessions produced were some rather startling noises... So the music store owner suggested that we buy a piano and start lessons (I suspect that he wanted to contain these little sonic experiments to one of his teaching rooms, and restore his showroom to a reasonable state of peace).

Fast forward 13 years - including five teachers, lots of high school/college keyboard noodling, and a church gig - and I'm on the road full-time with a rock band. This is an interesting situation I've managed to get into, as my experience with electronic keyboards was somewhat minimal. Meanwhile, the company has me surrounded with: a Rhodes, an RMI, a one manual Yamaha organ coupled with a Leslie 760, and my recently purchased Yamaha CS -50 - from which the band leader wants me to get the "cool sounds" using manual mode - instead of the "cheesy" presets. Also, could I get some of the great licks the previous keyboard player had; he learned them from reading Keyboard. And, we need that Booker T sound on the organ... OK, time to start buying copies of Keyboard. On my days off I spent lots of time in music stores across the country: asking tons of questions, tweaking every keyboard I could get my hands on, and coming down with a chronic case of GAS ( thanks, initially, to Sequential Circuits, Yamaha, and ARP). By the end of the year I had acquired a Yamaha CP70, and an Arp Quartet; followed, within a couple of years, by a Prophet 600 and a Roland VK organ.

Fast forward another 30 years. It still amazes me where this combination of black and white keys has led: from the innovative and challenging music department at Columbia College, to a smorgasbord of opportunities in Chicago and the surrounding area - with a few more road adventures thrown in. And the gear: From CP70, M3/Leslie 122, Memorymoog, OBX-a, DX7, etc.... to ...... SG-1 and M1, TX rack, MKS 70/80, Akai S900, etc.... to ..... S90ES, XV-5080, PC3, Receptor, Omnisphere, Motif XS Rack, MacBook, and softsynths.... What's next ? Can't wait...

These days I'm living in Loveland, CO. I teach piano and keyboards to private students, play with a couple of acts, and substitute teach - often in the local high school music department. I look forward to meeting everyone here, exchanging ideas, learning, and continuing this adventure in music and technology.

Greetings, I'm Patrick and this is my first post on this forum. Already a member of a coupla guitar forums (fora?), I wanted to get plugged into a kb forum, as well.

48 years old, long-time musician at amateur level, do live performances and small recording projects. Recently purchased a Macbook and intend to load it up with virtual synths and play live through Mainstage. Will continue to build a library of VSTs as time and funds allow. (BTW, looking for a good horn section synth; any recommendations?)

Thanks; I look forward to learning and contributing here.

Peace.

Hi everybody.

I'm 57 and still rocking - live performance and recording. All of these musicians from around the world in one place sharing information, ideas and music. The internet is amazing. I come from the heart of the psychedelic revolution - San Francisco. In 1966 I told everyone I knew a revolution in music was happening right here. No one believed me. When MIDI was created, I read the small article in the San Jose Mercury News and told every musician I knew that another revolution in music was about to begin. No one believed me. Then as a software engineer in 1992, I was following the research at CERN and told everyone a revolution called the web would change the world as we know it. No one believed me. If I can only get someone to believe me with my next prediction, I might make some money!

Peace

Hey everyone,

Just joined the board, looking forward to taking part. I'm thirtysomething, been a full-time keyboardist my whole life, based in Louisiana. I play a lot of R&B, blues and jazz, mostly piano (or any reasonable facsimile thereof) and organ (ditto). Hopefully I contribute something and pick up a tip or two.
