  1. "People that have balked at the price at the beginning... they're not balking at the price now because, like, 'Oh, right. That's a quality instrument. That's why it costs so much.'... We won't compromise on quality. We're making the absolute best Rhodes piano ever built."
  2. Great lesson on this topic (with pdf). Lesson starts about the 33 minute mark of video.
  3. I just picked up a VR09. I have several use cases for it but one is to be my emergency backup board. At only 12 pounds, it is no big deal to keep it in the vehicle in case the gig rig fails. Apropos to the backup concept, the VR09 is pretty good at a lot of things.
  4. Thanks for the tips. I am hoping it will be a good swiss army knife for me. Lightweight board for rehearsals and top-level board for synth and organ-light gigs.
  5. Picked up a VR09 this weekend. Starting to dig in, and enjoying it so far. Thanks for all the advice in this thread!
  6. Nords hold their value.... and then some. I recently sold a Nord Electro 2. I paid a fair value for a used one about 6 years ago, and I just sold it for several hundred MORE than I paid back then.
  7. I've noticed this, too. One work around is the "Quote selection" feature. When you highlight text in a post, a floating prompt box appears nearby the text to quote the selected text in your reply.
  8. The manual does mention that there's a noise gate on the analog inputs. I bet that's what it is. And I think I recall sometimes seeing a line of text come up on the top or bottom of the audio input screen informing me that the noise gate was engaged. This was when I was trying to figure out the inputs and was activating all of them even though I only had something plugged into one of them. I wouldn't have expected the Mojo or the outputs of any pro digital keyboard to have enough noise to trigger a noise gate, though. I suppose the noise gate is useful for, e.g., a microphone. But hopefully that gate settings are adjustable because Dave's anecdote is problematic and the mixer function is otherwise a big selling point for me.
  9. I miss my CX3 sometimes. Definitely wasn't the lightest clone but the layout and the cosmetics were faithful. I don't fully understand @MrVegas's use case, and I'm probably less discerning than most about my organ tone, but a CX3 with a real spinning horn (MS KBR3D from his sig) sounds pretty satisfying to me.
  10. People refer to Jimmy Smith's Hammond organ settings by his name
  11. Yes, he is an independent dealer of several popular keyboard brands. He also frequents this forum from time to time.
  12. Here is announcement video from several years ago. But I don't see them offered for sale on the VV website anymore.
  13. Yes, they made their own Vibanet for awhile, but I recall maybe they halted production.
  14. A couple years ago I noticed some shows on basic cable began using previously off-limits curse words (e.g., s--t). But I think broadcast tv is still bound by decency restrictions.
  15. I had an 88 key Rhodes for awhile. The keys beyond the 73 range sounded awful. I didn't bond with that board.
  16. Here's an odd data point: Guitar Center seems to define vintage based on a combination of age and reliability of pricing data. I recently sold them a long-ago discontinued effect pedal... nothing special... about 25 years old... valued under $100. I presented it to them as something to buy for their "used" inventory. The local GC salesman said it would actually be classified as part of their "vintage" inventory, and he even had to contact GC headquarters for authorization on a purchase price, because of its relative rarity in their system. This classification was somewhat unrelated to the age of the pedal in the sense that, had I brought in a 25 year old common effect pedal, especially one still in production (e.g., Boss overdrive), they would have bought it as "used," and the local guy would've had authority to do the transaction without HQ.
  17. This "thing" is gonna kill me... [tv edit]
  18. Please stop bragging about your fancy Jaz drives. Some of us could only afford the little brother Zip drive. It all seems so quaint now.
  19. @adamcz - nice video. I daydream about buying a VV and enjoy living vicariously through your purchase. Your comment that most intrigued me is that you think 64 keys would be adequate. Years ago I would've insisted 73 keys is necessary but these days I think I agree with you... I don't find myself playing the extremities of the 73 key Rhodes too often. Can get dumpy at the bass end and too tinkly in the treble. Keep enjoying that VV board!
  20. Diggin all the love for Willie Weeks. I assume most of you are familiar with his excellent 4 minute(!) bass solo starting at the 8 minute mark of this tune. So tasty. And delightfully playful at times:
  21. For clarification... that is NOT me in the video. Just admired the YT video and thought this group would appreciate it.
  22. I'm intrigued by this phenomenon of "retailer as museum/curator." What Sweetwater is doing with this vintage synth display reminds me of the Bass Pro Shops headquarters store in Springfield, Missouri. I believe it is their largest retail outlet, and within the store are several museum quality areas featuring large collections of historical firearms, archery, etc. I'm rooting for Sweetwater to pursue something similar. Maybe give the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame a run for its money!
