Umphrey's McGee straddles a lot of genres but often describes itself as a prog rock band. They're still doing their thing, although not as commercially successful as predecessors.
I like this Rhodes tone. I've been critical earlier in this thread about the tone of the Mark 8 in various promotional videos... but I'm digging it here. Curious about amplification and effects. Sounds like a delay is added midway through the solo. Oh, and of course Cory Henry's playing is fantastic.
I respect this opinion but for @Neek's sake will note this a topic of debate in the keyboard community. I'm still firmly in the hardware camp for live gigs.
That video was great... lots of wisdom... but things got weird at the end when he started talking about jazz. I consider his style "jazz adjacent"... lots of neo soul, chords with upper extensions, etc. So was surprised to hear him compartmentalize jazz and joke about the poor prospects of making a living at it.
I still occasionally use an SK2 into a SSv3. I'm perfectly happy using the SK leslie sim but I'm pretty laid back (too laid back?) about my leslie sims.
This reminds me of the thread about the sale of Piano World. Do we want to encourage folks from over there to spend more time here? I don't spend time there so have no opinion. But, if so, should we have a sticky thread to explicitly welcome folks like that?
I'd be a prospect for a product like this. They are emphasizing their accomplishments of having set a new gold standard for Rhodes, and accordingly set premium pricing. But guys like me don't necessarily expect a better Rhodes. We'd just like a modern reliable (gigable?) electromechanical piano in light of the existing stock of Rhodes being 40-60 years old, so most of the surviving pianos are either museum/studio pieces or beat up road warriors.
I happen to agree on the specific issue at hand -- i.e., that we shouldn't have a beginner sub-forum -- but will add my testimony that, despite the many virtues of this community, it can be intimidating to join the discussion. I lurked for many years before finding the courage to post. And I don't consider myself a shy person.
Another vote for "you got the wrong bag"
I have an SK2 and a Hammond-branded SK2 gig bag... I believe it is a previous version of the Hammond SK2 bag. Mine does not have straps inside the bag to secure the board but it does have backpack straps on the exterior of the bag which I believe the newer version does not.
My bag has an extra few inches of width beyond dimensions of the SK2. Perfect size for an expression pedal and power supply. Otherwise, the bag provides an appropriately snug fit for the board. Your SK2 appears to be swimming in that case!
Any info as to the purpose of the expression pedal? I'd guess it is volume/expression pedal for the Hammond, but don't most players use their right foot for that?
