  1. Interesting what Palmer, Lake and Emerson answer when asked what they would be or do if not a musician.
  2. 1 2 4 5 4 5 and then you do what you want.
  3. 3.8 GB of memory for custom samples or synth libraries for 5 K$ ?
  4. I'm sure people with decent experience with mods and electronics stuff could easily do it, but usually the "official" manufacturer way is that the repairs or upgrade must be done by authorized music shops/techs. Just like you can't replace rubber contacts yourself unless you don't mind voiding your warranty. Here, maybe Korg sends to the authorized tech a complete replacement action with AT already under the keys, instead of instructions and the separated components to add.
  5. Korg has been good adjusting to markets with their numerous inexpensive products since a while, but in the case of the Nautilus they are simply trying to catch up and correct one of their quite bad decisions. Another bad aspect of getting an upgrade is that the owner is left without his/her keyboard until it is completed.
  6. What... He is left-handed, but doesn't play Purple Haze ? Star Spangled Banner ? I'm disappointed.
  7. Indeed, poly AT is useless on synths that can't respond to it. Imagine how smaller is the list of MIDI 2.0 compatible synths. The first synths with MIDI appeared around 1983 and the use of poly AT on keyboards reached its peak around 1990 - the best era to buy great keyboard controllers.
  8. Well, like it or not, the Earth is flat. Here is the scientific proof seen by the Hubble telescope :
  9. While they are busy playing annoyingly loud, on your synth discreetly select a sine wave and let play C#6 at mid volume with infinite sustain (synth will continue to play the sound even after you don't touch the keys). When they stop playing, pretend you don't hear the C#6 and when someone says I hear a strange tone, tell him he probably destroyed his ears and now has permanent tinnitus because you told him earlier to turn his F volume down.
  10. Hmmm... Give a glass of water to someone, then ask the person to drink some, then spit part of it back in the glass. 90% don't want to drink out of the glass anymore. Why ? Also...
  11. Your opinion is actually shared by quite a few people. That's why earlier in this thread I mentioned for potential Nautilus buyers to wait and see new owners' input about their Nautilus AT. If the AT parts they will add in the Nautilus AT 88 are identical to what is in the Kronos 88 (after all, the RH3 action is still the same), it might not be fun to pay for a feature that is very hard to trigger.
  12. Different people, different needs. On one side, many buy digital pianos or synths with a few dozens adjustable parameters and they are very happy. On the other side, there are weirdos like me. Before I buy a machine, I read the user manual and most of the time, the ones offering the most possibilities or the largest number of adjustable parameters will be among those I will chose from in the final round before purchase. Of course, I need to connect with the machine playing it live and other criteria, but... That's why I now have a Kronos. And I should continue to discover its possibilities for at least another 5 years. And that is what makes me very happy.
  13. Going back on the initial topic, other reasons I see are : 1) since some decades keyboard manufacturers put a much bigger percentage of efforts to attract amateurs and young players compared to try to satisfy people like semi-pro or pro musicians. And this because : 2) compared to decades ago where most keyboardists would enjoy paying big money for limited machines and happily accept their limits, people are now ridiculously demanding that everything is exactly as what they want or get too easily dissatisfied with tiny things. There are myriads of ridiculous discussions everywhere such as "I want a fully weighted action but the whole keyboard must be less than 10 lbs.", etc. So the manufacturers said OK, why should we bother continuing like before since our main clientele now is different.
  14. For me : - Pizza - Smoked meat at a restaurant I know downtown - A good home-made burger - Gyros on pita bread (includes lamb, tzatziki sauce, garlic, etc.) - Macarons parisiens
  15. Out of those, I will for sure prefer what Dave eats. No thanks for the rest.
  16. Maybe this had to do with earlier versions of it. Mine is a v3 with the Hammond-Suzuki action and the elastomeric hammers are easy to tame after getting accustomed to. It's just like any acoustic piano or new instrument, each demands a certain approach that may differ from another (an extreme example is one can't play the same way on an old Mellotron M400S as on a Hammond organ for sure). One tricky thing with the MIDIboard is to use the poly AT wisely since it shoots lots of data, but this is simple to achieve by limiting it to certain zones in each setup, etc. Finally, I am rather surprised to read about the case, mine is still impeccable after 30+ years. Of course, everyone has different needs and taste, so this certainly applies to keyboard actions.
