  1. Happy to own it on vinyl…before the insanity of it all. https://www.discogs.com/master/76226-Walter-Carlos-Switched-On-Bach
  2. hmm…he’s a little long in the tooth to still be playing the same gig. Could be an SNL skit. Call me unimpressed…
  3. Again, as the originator of this thread, I do love my M8x. With limited time to devote to understanding the workflow, controller assignments, etc. the 5 months I’ve owned it may not be enough but still brings me joy when I “just play”. There may still be a Nord Stage 4 or a UDO Super Gemini in my future to satisfy my need for greater direct control, those would be in addition to, not replacement of the M8x. Life is too short to drink cheap scotch. Breathe…
  4. I don’t get it…it’s a building that turns into a robot. I don’t get it.
  5. hmm...having already owned a bunch of classics along with the overlap of digital components in "analog" synths, I think the question of pure analog is moot unless I choose to re-purchase my Oberheim Modular 8 Voice at an enormous premium. Otherwise, I might pick the UDO Super Gemini.
  6. If we could just get Matt Johnson to do tutorial videos. Matt's approach and explanation in mere a demo helped more than most.
  7. Thanks for your real world experience with your Nord Stage 4. Besides the issues you list, I find it odd that at roughly $5k+ there's no built in audio interface and only 2GB for piano memory.
  8. Very sad commentary. We have destroyed retail across almost every segment. I've been buying keyboards at Sam Ash since the late 1970's. I traded most of my gear via Sam Ash before the inter-webs and even did so recently to acquire my Montage M8x without having to ship a Roland RD-2000 for an astronomical amount. As much as I love Sweetwater and other internet retailers, the ability to walk into a store and play a piece of gear is dead unless you get on a plane to a few places that stock gear. My very first Multivox piano came from Sam Ash in 1976/7? followed by my Rhodes Stage 73, Korg MS-20, Crumar T2, Korg T3, Roland D-50, Yamaha KX-88, Oberheim OB-Xa, OB-8, Kronos 88. Roland RD-2000 and most recently my Montage M8x.
  9. I originated this thread...I do love so many things about the M8x versus my RD-2000 and soft synths and the vast improvement over my Kronos, and 3 previous Motif series boards. Maybe I'm just getting old... Seems odd that the only real Montage M video tutorials are French or German. I might have to buy a Nord Stage 4 (before I can't) to see if it gets me back to a greater joy.
  10. Having owned and played plenty of Yamaha gear going back to the KX-88, Motif 88, Motif ES8, Motif XS8, then a Korg Kronos, followed by a Roland RD-2000 and Software Synths to arrive back at a Montage M8x....Is it me? Another "clear as mud" short video from the wizards at Yamaha. As much as I love my Montage M8x, the keyboard action, poly aftertouch, built in audio interface, new U/I and sub display, etc. It is stunning piece of gear sonically and build quality. Yet, the mechanics/interaction remind why I left my Motif, Motif EX and Motif XS for software synths long ago. It's about immediacy not some inter-dependent routing scheme for teutonic engineers. Maybe I'm a Nord guy and I don't know it. Whaddya think? "Our daughter Francine, will now play for you, the recorder"
  11. Offload your "Logic" library to an external SSD. I use a Samsung T7 4GB drive to offload Logic, Arturia, NI and Omnisphere libraries. Make sure to back up your external drives. I back up to multiple places - to the cloud, another local Samsung T7 and a Synology NAS. There are plenty of good YouTube videos on how to move and point to each of those libraries including Omnisphere STEAM. Cheers!
  12. Let me know when you awake from your coma. While I appreciate NRBQ and numerous others mentioned… Are you kidding me? Keith is the GOAT.
  13. Painters Tape! https://www.frogtape.com/products/delicate-surface-painters-tape Now, I'm going to put on my hat...
  14. Whose generation? Times may change, standards MUST remain... Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Tony Banks. You can pick your own order and have a wildcard, but they must be in the top 4.
