Yamaha YC, CP, CK... what's the verdict?
ImproKeys replied to Spider76's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Being a Nord Stage 2 player for many many years, I tried to switch to YC and CK, even considering Roland and others. Bottom line: I could have saved a fair amount of money going straight to the Stage 4 instead of trying to find something that replaces an instrument I know inside out. -
Second vote for Yamaha MX49!

Best keyboard stand for a Crumar Mojo + MIDI bass pedals?
ImproKeys replied to John Salazar's topic in The Keyboard Corner
You can't go wrong with the K&M 18950. I use it for my Mojo Classic (but don't play pedals). You should be able to adjust the width wide enough. -
ImproKeys started following Performance advice for electric duo needed
-
I am planning for a duo live act keys and sax. We will play some electric funky jazz and smooth jazz. I am searching for a tool to manage everything except the sax parts 😉 I would like to be able to stay flexible, change drum loops, effects and other tracks/loops on the fly while playing keys and left hand bass. I know many pieces of gear that could do the job (Akai lineup, Loopers - I own a RC505, Ableton, …) but I am primarily interested in how you are approaching this kind of performance. How much preparation is necessary? Do you like to have multiple hardware instruments playing with MIDI or is audio loops the way to go? thanks and have a nice day!

I dont know the HX3, but as a Mojo player I think that you would have to configure it on the HX3, the mojo I play (Classic) does not allow to change CC numbers for controllers. Once I tried to control H3X on an ipad with my Mojo. I got it working in the end.

Your Latest Purchase (music related)
ImproKeys replied to Justin Havu's topic in The Keyboard Corner
A Boss RC 505 mkII. I knew I would come back to loopers someday. -
I think what you are trying to achieve would not work with a different keyboard. You are looking for the Hammond behaviour where you change the drawbar sets with the black keys, right? Maybe this would be possible with the IK Multimedia app, but i doubt it and it wouldnt run on your ipad anyway. I play a clonewheel that has preset but use that functionality rarely and just change the bars on the fly.

If you are using sheets to play I want to suggest you take them over to an iPad, use forescore for displaying the sheets and sending a program change message to your stage. So when you dial up the sheet your Stage is ready to play.

Hi! Which version of the Mojo are you referring to?
-
This! and: setting up stereo cabling in a hurry, connecting the two inputs with one cable and the two outputs with the other. 😬
-
I would definitely do that. I am saying that as a Nord and Crumar user.

How is your keyboard connected to your mixer?
ImproKeys replied to Dufffy's topic in The Keyboard Corner
I think you dont need the 1/4 to xlr adapter / splitter. If you are not using a high value DI Box there will be no benefit in using the xlr ins on your yamaha mixer. Just go straight 1/4 to a stereo input or two mono on your mixer. -
Getting all your dang patches balanced...
ImproKeys replied to KeyboardEric's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Depends on the type of music you make; I always have a piano sound. This sound is always dialed in the same amount in every patch. Gives some kind of reference for the additional sounds. Adjusting to my new Nord Stage 4 I sadly did not follow this principle. I dialed in the correct relations between my sounds and used the next rehearsals to adjust the overall patch level - theres an option in the NS4 menu somewhere. If you are running your own sound (without FOH guy/gal) on small gigs and without IEM, it is easy to adjust your level just by leaving some „headroom“ on your master level on your instrument. If you are playing with different / random FOH people, try to balance your sounds and - most important - tell the FOH, you balanced your sounds and there is no need for per song based leveling on the FOH. They will thank you. (And tell them you already compressed where necessary - I really hate when the FOH compresses my keys). Are you using multiple boards? Then my first suggestion might be a bit tricky to achieve. I would consider adding a keys submixer to the setup. If you want it to be super complicated, throw in a digital mixer like an XR18, programm a scene for each song, dial in compressors, limiters and fader levels… 😉 Have fun making music! -
crumar mojo suitcase Crumar mojo Suitcase question
ImproKeys replied to Jefsong's topic in The Keyboard Corner
In the WiFi setting menu of the Crumar you can set the „starting“ channel, that means the upper manual in organ mode. from there on it is always fixed, i .e. If you want upper to transmit in midi only mode on ch 12 you have to set start ch to 9. -
crumar mojo suitcase Crumar mojo Suitcase question
ImproKeys replied to Jefsong's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Yes, there is a way: push and hold the Manual button for the manual you want to use for external sounds. then the organ engine is muted and the manual sends on a different channel (lower on 5, upper on 4). I find this quite convenient. You can hook up an iPad or module. Set it to channel 5 and it only plays when you follow the procedure above. One thing to notice: there’s no octave switch on the mojo. If you have to have one, you need to make the settings on the receiving end.
