  1. I'll always remember the drummer's reaction in the band I was in around 1990 after I bought a brand new Kurzweil MIDIboard. "So... You bought a $3000 keyboard and it doesn't have any sound ?". Well, it still remains the best digital keyboard action and controller I have ever played and it still works perfectly. Remember this Keyboard magazine edition (below) ? It was the best era to find a great keyboard controller. Many had poly AT and great quality actions. It was more the norm back then, not the exception.
  2. Yes, that is what I think too about the concept. I won't attend also because since I saw them a few times before I am pretty sure it will be disappointing.
  3. Simplistic summary : Filter envelope = timbre adjustments, Amplitude envelope = volume adjustments. A few more thoughts : Envelopes differ from one synth to another, especially from one synth manufacturer to another. Many older synths had rather limited envelopes, as each part (for example, in a simple ADSR) would not necessarily give you distinct controls for both the level and time of it. In other words, A or attack is not just a time, it is also a level. In a great machine like the Kronos, all envelope levels and times can have distinct values, so you have much more control to adjust things as you want.
  4. In November, Palmer will be coming in several cities including mine to play ELP with Emerson and Lake on big screens and his own musicians as well. A friend asked me if I will go, but I'm far from sure. I just think the concept is kinda weird. What do you think ? Would you go see such a concert ?
  5. Put headphones on my sleeping head and for 3 days play me the first half of ELP's Welcome Back My Friends triple album with those unique modular Moog sounds (Hoedown, Jerusalem, Toccata, Tarkus/Aquatarkus) and then that 400 kV synth on Psyché Rock (Messe pour le Temps Présent). If I don't wake up after 3 days with those immortal synth pieces playing in the headphones, I can be disconnected.
  6. In German : Hi-Hat = Tschak Kick = Boom Snare = Boing

    Aha!

Totally agree that they were an excellent band. Not to mention the most successful Norway band ever, just like ABBA were in Sweden for decades before them. They also had excellent live performances - check The Sun Always Shines On TV at Royal Albert Hall with accompanying orchestra. Inspired compositions with catchy melodies, a lead vocalist with a very wide range, lots of intelligent synth lines, etc. Infinitely better musically than so many other bands.
  8. Vegas Pro does everything I need. Note that video rendering needs processing power so be ready to CPU temperature rise. 🔥
  9. I always did repairs and mods on my keyboards. I guess it all started with my very first horror "synth"... ...then on many of the other instruments I owned with the years. Amongst others, I cut a C3 so it can be a bit less horrible to carry, repaired/modified a Jupiter 4, maintained my Mellotron M400S to stay top notch, which included a secret mod - adding a 3,5 W lightbulb constantly on inside the case to keep humidity away. I also remember fixing the famous dreaded power supply problem common in many Kurzweil 1000/1200 series, creating software mods for the PC2X, etc. I think the mod I enjoy the most still today (which was very difficult) is my Kronos screen that that can be moved up and much more in my face when I play sitting down (or simply put back at its normal position after). It still saves me tons of head/neck/back aches when I work several hours creating programs or multisamples at the keys, etc. I like the slight improvement in sound and control between those two machines pictured here.
  10. Good answers already. Another thing is the piano répertoire is so huge, don't be afraid to give up certain pieces for new ones you might end up enjoy much more. For example, I used to play Maple Leaf Rag, Fantaisie Impromptu and others, but I almost never play them anymore. So with time, new pieces become new daily favorites to play, along with ones that you continue to play since a long time.
  11. The three pianos mentioned in that EXs require 635 MB of RAM, so make sure you have plenty of memory available or you will have to edit what you selected in the KSC auto-load tab.
  12. How much $$$ ? https://www.cnn.com/videos/world/2023/08/04/exp-freddie-mercury-piano-auction-vo-reader-080401aseg3-cnni-world.cnn
  13. The main problem with AI is very simple. It will always have 0 creativity, 0 imagination and 0 sensitivity - all essential qualities to keep this world "human" and improving. For brute force searches or certain boring tasks, it can accomplish things, like DeepL already does since a while. For the rest... meh.
  14. Used to enjoy my Mellotron M400S through a big effect pedal - a Leslie 147.
  15. Mr David Fravor was there as well. What he encountered with his team some years ago was not a joke but a unknown vehicle technologically much more advanced than anything humans can even begin to try to design. And the Nimitz videos of it were confirmed genuine by the Pentagon after years of silence / NDA.
