  1. Perception is pointless to analyze, since a 1kHz sinewave is a lot more annoying to hear than a 60 Hz or 12 kHz one of same volume. So go with simple facts. In Wavelab, you can either select % or dB to apply changes in signal amplitude and here are the equivalents : 50% = -6 dB 25% = -12 dB 200 % = +6 dB 400 % = +12 dB
  2. Sweetwater might accept to deliver to Canada, but you will be charged transport accordingly and as anything going USA to Canada your item will go through customs and it is always possible to end up with extra fees - sometimes very expensive. I personally had a very bad experience about 10 years ago and promised myself to never import again from the USA unless the seller confirms on paper he pays for all possible customs and duties extra fees. Buying Kurzweil products in Canada has always been complicated. In the 1990s a few stores in the province kept a couple of them, but if you wanted something they didn't have you had to order sight unseen and wait months to get your purchase. That is how I bought my MIDIboard, K1200 and finally, around 2000, a PC2X. I hated the Fatar action on the PC2X from day one and swore to never buy a keyboard sight unseen ever again.
  3. Hi there ! I mostly use high quality headphones for practice and recording for maximum presence and optimal frequency response, but those new Pebble Xs with subwoofer are just fine for final mixes with a DAW or listening to anything on the computer, from techno to classical. The X Plus 2.1 system offers a 45–20,000 Hz response and I can confirm the tiny subwoofer sure moves dust away from the desk when I listen to Moog Taurus pedals. The great guy below compares the different versions of Pebbles. And he is right that the latest generation is definitely quite a notch above the previous ones. I didn't like they are USB powered, but Creative gives a 67 W charger / power supply for free with the purchase.
  4. Got the all new Creative Pebble X Plus 2.1 system. Incredible sound and impressive bass for its size.
  5. The problem with grand pianos is that they are as fragile as they are heavy. You need experience to master the technique to put one on its side safely without destroying it before removing the legs. And there are many other things that must be correctly done as well. One example is, either the action hammers/keys must be secured carefully before the move, either the whole action does NOT stay in the grand during transport. This little mistake alone can cost thousands of dollars in repairs. So again, pro movers is a must. When I bought my brand new grand in 2012, the moving was 400 $, which is peanuts compared to the cost of the instrument. The guys were real pros, only two Arnold-shaped fellows to carry this 850 lbs thing, that was very impressive.
  6. A word to the wise. Hire pro piano movers. Period. It is worth the expense. Oh and.. Did I mention to hire pro piano movers ?
  7. I'm in the Great White North on the east side and the system you got earlier is stuck here since 30+ hours. We had crazy 80 km/h winds for 24 hours and they finally begin to slow down with the depression system turning around on itself. Lots of power outages in the whole province, not good.
  8. More interesting IMHO is the David Cross band currently touring and playing the original Larks Tongues album and much more.
  9. Looks like something very hot melting/scraping the plastic as it slowly moves. Could be a forgotten soldering iron on the keys while you repaired some wires, or you forgot your keyboard in the sun under a magnifying glass, or you recently played a tribute to Pink Floyd in Pompeii and didn't notice the Vesuvia shown warning signs of an impending eruption. In this latter case, you should call Italian authorities ASAP.
  10. Maybe many already know the thing, but just wanted to share this little discovery. I'm having fun since a couple of days with this little MIDItrail free app. It's great to visualize what is played in MIDI files and you can change the view to a single keyboard or also to 16 keyboards as on a gigantic pipe organ like on the pic and change to any angle in real time if you want to zoom in or out on a MIDI channel/keyboard, etc.
  11. Yep, sold my M400S for that reason some decades ago. The tapes would slowly but surely sound more and more "metallic" from magnetization and wear, so since back then (around 1988) Mellotrons stopped being produced, I though I better get rid of it as it became impossible to get new tapes. Funnily, that is the only instrument I could sell for the same price I paid, as it was still extremely looked after. I also had the fancy Mellotron cushioned cover in black leather that protected the whole instrument for transport.
  12. Even though saddened, Lake said something like he wasn't extremely surprised when it happened, as he knew Emerson lived a very isolated life since years, on top of his medical and personal problems. Suicide is a permanent "solution" to a temporary problem and here again even despite his dexterity problems he could have continued to work as composer of film scores, advisor at synth companies and so much more. Also, many said he was an emotional person and in the last years was reading the horrible social media crap about him. It is very sad that this complete crap influenced him negatively to the point of forgetting about the positive and talents he still had. Now, on a more general level, artists often have a much more emotional and sensitive nature than most. Same with people with high IQ or who were born with a "tree-based thinking OS" brain as I call it (believe me, it is not fun). So very sensitive/emotional people can be affected a lot more than most with the difficult aspects of life.
  13. Exactly. I emailed the owner, hopefully it will just be one of those temporary bugs. Long live Korg. Update : back and running again.
  14. Possibly Eddie Jobson.
  15. When AI soon takes control of the interwebz, all vowels will be prohibited everywhere.
  16. Add a little French accent and it's OK. réservations réservations réservations
  17. Some good info here. A decent summary of the K250 sounds appears around 2/3 of the page. Still have my K1000PX with extra soundblocks A and B installed (which makes it identical to a K1200). Missing in the K1200 but that also exist in the K250 are the sounds in the SX, HX and GX modules.
  18. Depends on the MIDIboard version. It is easy to figure out simply looking at the front control panel, namely the logo and the parameter list. The later the version, the better. On the v1, the MIDIBOARD logo letters are not filled in white, as opposed to the later models, and its parameter list has only two columns. On the v2, you see the logo with fully white letters and a parameter list on three columns (last column is incomplete). Finally, on the v3 the logo is like on the v2 but the parameter list has four full columns. For the price to ask, it depends on the condition. IMHO the v3 in particular is still worth big money because of the design of elastomeric hammers striking a capacitance area, which offers incredible longevity. There is nothing comparable nowadays. Fatar actions fall apart after a couple of years. My v3 is 30+ years old and doing just fine.
  19. Define "rock". Define "our generation". Next similar thread will be : Greatest generation ?
