Nowak Posted December 9, 2002 Share Posted December 9, 2002 Hi Dano, Here's what I used, Roland RD 700 - Piano (Dynamic Grand/Exp card), Rhodes(020), Drums(200), I just started getting a groove with these drums and kept em! I think i'm gonna grab a TD10 for quick drum tracks. Kurzweil - 2500 - Bass(72) Fairlight III - Violins, Violas, Celli, Basses I'm thinking of adding some synth tracks, just bits here and there, there will also be guitar added. I would like a few horns, maybe 2 flugals and a trumpet or 2, but I would keep it pretty mellow until the keychange bridge. That's me on synth & clavinet. The guitarist is inaudible on this (it was a live recording on VHS and when the drummer asked for less of him in the monitor he also disappeared from the tape lol); it's unfortunate because he's awesome. Since I'm the guy in charge of the demos for Latin America of Live and Reason I really pursued on doing an entire tune using only those resources. So, all the music came from REASON and all the vocals FX were from Live 2.0. No extra VST plug ins. Just the built in Chorus, Ping Pong Delay and Reverb together with the Vinyl distortion, seriously automated. Yes, that's me singing (or trying to ) What about the harmonys? I actually tried to get a band that I was in to play it once, but the drummer and bass player both had problems following the timing. That was a bummer! I wrote the first tune ("And We're Back"), and play the piano in all three tunes. I did not record this band, since my small setup is not equipped to record a live, 7-piece band. We made these recordings in one day (along with 3 other songs not posted here) in a friend's studio. I apologize for the blandness of the MP3 page. I basically set up this bare-bones page so you guys could take a listen. I'll comment on a couple of songs later if I think of something productive to say. I uploaded a new mix of a jam we did two weeks ago. The MP3 is compressed at 96kbps but you can get a pretty good idea of the mix. It starts out kinda bass guitar heavy and evens out as the jam progresses...that's the way it was live in the room. All done with CubaseSX with a Delta soundcard. It was difficult deciding where to put the trumpet channel in the mix because the organ's leslie is on the same channel and both instruments fluctuated in volume a lot. We also didn't spend a long time on the mix...the snare is the only thing we eq'd...I think I will do another mix for the hell of it...the beauty of computer recording is it saves all changes, automation, etc. Thanks for listening...Mike only started jamming with us a couple of weeks ago...he's really fun to play with...great bass player too. Needs to practice his Lip a bit but his ideas are great. Good luck with the jamming...don't worry...just make sure it's always fun and that your expectations are never too high before beginning. Unnecessary expecations can really kill the vibe. Oh and make sure you record it so you can study your playing later, doesn't have to be a good recording, a cassette is fine...it helps a lot to always listen to yourself for ways to improve IMO. There are so many good musicians on this board, that a newbie hobbyist like me has to shudder before posting any music. Anyway here is a piece called The Desolate Planet . It was written as several distinct parts, which I then patched together in an order than seemed to make sense to me. Picture a remote barren planet,uninhabited (or is it), prone to changes in weather patterns, sometimes extreme. All me, my QS7, and a bunch of softsynths. I mixed this just after building my new computer early this year.
