Curve...uh, I'm speechless...you actually like that song? I'm floored...

I'm the one who is humbled indeed...

Yep, I'm the fat dorky guy with the glasses playing the Strat.

A thousand thanks! Ten thousand thanks, even...!

Dan:

I'd opt for that Digitech VTP-1 two channel tube mic preamp

rather than the Carvin Bass. It'd sit well in my simple setup.

Your a great guy no matter what catts.ass guy said about you http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

I don't know how it sounds, but the VTP-1 with the SP/DIF out would give me two more inputs on my VS880, which would be more than useful.....

I usually borrow someone's keyboard when I need to record specific keyboard parts. The Nord Lead would be a nice luxury; and the "sinus modulation" would probably benefit my recurring headaches.

If I were runnning for office I would be worried this fell under the new McCain/Feingold bill..

" Fly" - nice, melodic solo. Reminds me of a Randy Rhoads arrangement, with maybe a Peter Frampton touch.

DUDE! Reminiscent of a Rhoads arrangement! Peter Frampton touch! Even remotely reminiscent is the highest order compliment...not nearly as many notes natch...but melodic was the nail-head I was trying to hit. Actually I was trying to think like George Harrison...or catch a Pete Ham vibe.

sumstatic, please do NOT email me directly. If you have something to discuss, you may do so on this forum, as per the rules that I set out in the beginning. I want everything out in the open so no one thinks that I've made any special deals with anyone else.

Furthermore, I could not open your email and suspect that it may have been infected by a virus. I destroyed the message, and I'll delete anything else you send me, because I'm not going to take a chance on crashing my PC.

Alright, I'll tell you why I need anything you're giving away.

People here so far have been complaining about not liking the equipment they have already... well I don't even have anything to complain about! I've spent the first 3 or 4 years of my production career clicking notes into a copy of Cakewalk with my mouse because I had no midi controller keyboard. Then I'd use a free program that would make my midi files into .wavs by assigning .SF2 files to the notes. What a pain! But look at that dedication! Mixing is all done with a cheap pair of headphones because my stereo speakers lost all value as monitors many years ago. All this and I've still been able to produce some pretty high quality stuff that people seem to dig.. and no one believes me when I tell them the process I go through to make these beats... so if you've got anything left to give away.. have mercy on a poor college boy just tryin to make some music.

peace

Dan-

no problem for the voltage. I'd have the inner transformer changed.

And I'd arrange my courier for pickup - no expenses on your side.

Unfortunately, no music online by me yet. Can't get this MP3 posting thing sorted out (and have no time for that, too).

But I'll hum it aloud for ya:

mmmm...uh-uh..

mmmmm..m-m...

mmmmm- m- m- m- uh-uh

ARGOMAX! YOU RIPPED OFF MY TUNE!

I wrote one that goes:

mmmmmmmm mmmmmm ah ah mmmmm

Oh, wait a minute...mine goes in the next line

mmmmmmm...da da bum da bummmmmm

I guess it is different...sorry...

But you've gotta admit...for a minute there were certain similarities...same key and all.

No problem. I had some difficulties with my connection yesterday; that most likely cause my inability to open your message. Sorry for the confusion, but I'm VERY cautious regarding the virus issue. I don't like to take chances. You don't need to send me an address until I sort out the winners. I'll keep you posted.

The envelope please...

Okay, I'm going to announce the gear giveaway recipients in this post. I may have one or two pieces left after this, so if I don't mention you here, please post again if you want any item (from the second list) that's still outstanding.

Before I disclose the winners, I'd like to mention a few folks who did NOT win anything but who deserve special mention.

Nika - you're a cool cat, and I thank you for the scoops you've thrown my may from time to time, but no flower pots for you this time around. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Wormhole - hope you're getting good mileage out of that MSR-2.

Dr. Destructo - I'll be shipping your four-string out on Friday (the 13th). I had the flu last week and couldn't get to it. Sorry for the delay.

Bombastique - I was impressed with your friend's music, but I never got the chance to speak with her. Have her post to the thread, and we'll see if there's anything left that we can send to her. Thanks!

Tedster - I feel like I know you well, and I'm sorry that I can't donate the bass to your cause. I may be able to send something else your way, though. Send me an email for details. Thanks a bunch!

Sergievsky - Though yours is a worthy cause, I did not elect to donate anything to your school for the simple reason that shipping to the Phillippines would cost more than most of this stuff is worth. I shall, however, extend an offer to prepare notes for a lecture or lab on any music or music production topic that you deem me qualified to deliver. - I'll be delivering the notes, not the lecture. - Please check out my MP3 site (URL listed below) to get an idea of my areas of expertise, then send me a private email if I may be of service in this manner.

Okay, now for news you've been waiting to hear.

I don't know if it's because he's Italian, but with regard to the MC-505, Argomax "made me an offer I couldn't refuse," so to speak. Since he has experience with the unit, he's willing to convert the power supply for European voltages, AND he's going to have his own courier handle all of the shipping logistics, I simply cannot deny him the big silver box. Max, congratulations, you are now the owner of a very slightly used, immaculately kept MC-505!

Mr. Turner will receive the Digitech VTP-1 mic preamp. Since he's in Western, PA, I may be able to hand deliver it on one of my visits to the hometown. Congratulations, William!

Chip McDonald will receive the nord lead. It's kind of a wacky synth, so I think it will fit right in to the Augusta scene. Congratulations, Chip!

Sumstatic confessed that he has never owned an effects processor. Well, it's time we give this man the tools he needs to learn what effects are all about! I'm going to give him all three Alesis Micro processors - the Micro Compressor, Micro Gate, and Micro Verb. That ought to keep you busy for a while. Congratulations to sumstatic!

Ken, the Eleven Shadows guy, is a real meister of the ambient sound. He's used the Quadraverbs in the past, but I thought for something different, I'd pass along my Lexicon LXP-1. Ken, if you'd prefer my Quadraverb 1 (original version), just let me know. Congratulations, Ken!

Oark, sometimes known on earth as GY - I suspect he may be an obstetrician - impressed me greatly with the song that he prepared specifically for the giveaway, so I have a special gift for him: the Roland SRV-330 reverb. Roland calls it a Dimensional Space Reverb, so I figured that it would fit nicely into Oark's flying saucer. Congratulations, Greg!

The Proteus goes to someone who's helped me out quite a bit as I've wrestled with the learning curve on the AW4416. So let's wish a warm congratulations to that man of few words himself, Phil O'Keefe. Phil, I'll bet you're speechless. Well, no, on second thought, you're probably not... ;-)

The JD-990 is going to take up permanent residence in Philadelphia. Curve, from the moment I heard your music, I KNEW that this was your box! Congratulations, Curve!

I'm shipping the five-string Carvin off to upstate New York, because I would hate to have the blood of a million smilies on my conscience. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif KAHN had a number of his peers vouch for him, and his music displays awesome fretboard technique. Congratulations, KAHN!

Last, but certainly not least, is the hotly contested Quadraverb 2, and that bit of kit is heading off to the Indiana studios of the MusicMan, himself, John Palumbo. John, you impressed me a great deal with your music. I hope that you'll use the Q2 to make a whole lot more of it. Congratulations, John!

Please send a shipping address to my email id: dansouth@yahoo.com It may be advisable to include a phone number that I can put on the airbill, but no sweat if you'd prefer not to. I'm sure that FedEx will find you. Max, you can let me know how to proceed with the MC-505.

As I stated at the top of the thread, this gear is offered AS IS. Some of it has been sitting in my garage for YEARS. It may not work at all, and I can't guarantee that it will be of any use to you when it arrives. All I can offer is that you don't have to pay the shipping if it doesn't work when you receive it. If everything's okay, I'd be very appreciative if you could send me a check for the shipping charges. We'll discuss the details via private email.

One last thing. Please feel free to drop by my newly configured MP3 site to check out some of my tunes. Please check back from time to time, as I expect to be adding a bunch of new stuff in the coming weeks. The URL is http://www.mp3.com/DanSouth

Best wishes to all!!!

(PRIZE ACCEPTANCE SPEECH)

Dear ladies and gents,

it is with great pride and honor that I accept this prize kindly bestowed upon me by a wiser commission.

I can only vouch for the fact that it will be employed for the noblest of purposes, that is, creating music as a form of art as opposed to a form of income.

I would like to aknowledge some of the friends in this forum such as Curve (enjoy the JD, amico), P.O'K., Lee Flier and Craig himself who makes all this possible.

I therefore bow in front of this audience and I hereby promise that, as soon as possible, the music that this machine will help creating will be online. And that in the future, I will do for someone else what has just been done for me.

Thank you very much and have a great evening.

Hello Dan,

Thanks for your very generous offer. I would like to bid on the Proteus. I have been working with one lately that my friend Skip lets me use but it would be nice to return it to him. My only other module is an old MT32 by Roland. I love the Proteus over the MT32 because I can put my drums on seperate midi channels making them a whole lot easier to mix. Also the string sounds are a lot better. Most of the demos one my page were done with Skip's module.

Wow, that's great, thanks! I'm grateful... The timing of this is exemplary...

Tuesday going home from work I saw a good friend of mine, the other guitar teacher at the store I teach at, have a head on collision with a girl that ran a stop sign. A really, really bad scene, watching a friend stagger out of his truck covered in blood, not being able to do anything about the people in the other car - I called 911 while the accident occured, my friend almost died from loss of blood because it took 30 minutes for the ambulances to arrive. One person died in the other vehicle, and a passenger is in critical condition. I couldn't do anything, I don't know what .... I'll stop there (insert feelings of vague guilt for not being able to think of anything that could have changed things).

So I've had the "instant replay" of this going through my mind since then. Didn't sleep the night before because I had a bruise on my leg from a bike accident; didn't sleep that night waiting at the hospital... Then last night, a friend got a load of passes for the Kenny Wayne S./Double Trouble show... Met Ken Wayne, hung out and talked shop with the guitar player from Double Trouble. That was great timing because it got my mind off the visuals of tuesday night.

So, I actually almost slept last night; started drifting off finally around 6 am.

At about 7:00 am a car ran a stop sign at the corner of the house I'm living at; collided with a pickup truck, screeching tires, BOOM, car horn goes off. NO one was seriously injured - the car had an air bag, and the truck was a big F-100 style job. But the car alarm stayed on... and on... and on... people gathering around, a wonderful little replay of what I saw tuesday evening!

Tried to lay down; the first wrecker to move the car showed up around 8:00.

Got to lay in bed and listen to "bing bing bing bing" while it maneuvered around to pick up the wrecked car.

9:00 the other wrecker shows up to get the truck out of the front yard. More difficult apparently, took until about 9:45.

(I originally wrote this yesterday, but had to go to work; today, 3 hours sleep last night.. great.)

ANYHOW

Thanks again! My birthday is tuesday, this makes for a nice surprise, and a good distraction from "crap" in general. It'll be nice to have a keyboard RIGHT THERE for a chnge without having to preplan calling someone up and doing a favor to get one for a few nights just to record a part, etc...

I almost feel like putting some of Khan's icon's in this post....

Just listened to your mp3's; nice relaxed vibe, nice attention to ADSR realism.... Cool minuet feeling in your fuque.... The french horn-sounding parts in the trumpet concerto avoids aliasing/digital artifacts well, tricky... Natural sounding.
