The last kit I had set up was not conventional in the cymbal sense.
14" HH's, 18"crash/ride (taped and muffled for maximum ping), 3 splashes, and a china. For some reason I tend to prefer cymbals with a sharp attack and short sustain.
That seems strange considering your user name.
I like a china in the context of blast/death type metal. I prefer the sound of a smaller one (like a 12"), which sounds about like a metal trash can lid.
Great way to enter a blastbeat. I think they just cut, which is what you need when you are trying to add accents to 2000 watts of screaming guitars and some guy belching like he's trying to take a shit...all of this taking place at about 220bbm.
