What a great idea to get rid of some old stuff!

I will not make a request for myself (though I'd

love the Proteus 1 to go with my matching Proteus 2!) http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'll make a request that you donate the gear

(espically the Proteus and the Quadraverb) to

USC or another similar audio school in your

area.

USC has a great recording program and a great

film scoring school. Both of them would greatly

benifit from any donation. You'd be helping

MANY students not just one or two people.

If you are not interested in USC I'm

sure I can help you find another audio

school that has a GOOD program (not a

"Full Pail" type).

You'd also get a tax deduction... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Please let me know if you are interested.

I can put you in contact with the folks at

USC or the head of the AES education commitee.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am already planning to donate some stuff to a college. The stuff that I'm giving away through this thread is stuff that they didn't need or stuff that's of such low value that the tax deduction would be miniscule. I could probably get some money for the Carvin, but if someone on this forum can put it to good use, that's good enough for me. I doubt that I'd get much for the rest of the stuff, so I'll be happy to give it to someone who can use it to make some cool music.

I'm a little puzzled over the excitement regarding the Q2. It's an older unit, and I'm sure that they're a dime a dozen on EBay and the used market.

Anyway, I'm thinking of imposing an earlier deadline for new entries, because I'm going to have to chat with each of the entrants in order to come to some conclusions about who gets what. Let's move the entry deadline to 31 March, instead of 30 April. I'll use April to evaluate the entrants and make my recommendations. Selectees will receive their gear a little earlier this way.

Dan-

You saved me! I was almost off to sell that kidney http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif! Though I did sell my nuts previously and that's why they call me JEN now...

I would never do anything illegal, or even stupid, to get gear (I don't think?) Anyway, thanks for putting us in the running. We appreciate the consideration. We look forward to emailing with you one on one!

Have a great weekend (Yes, I am sucking up!)

I hope you will please stick to your new March 31 deadline. MP3 uploading is very slow (waiting for approval). I would hate to miss out on being able to submit for your wonderful "contest".

Alright, a contest! I have never won a contest before (if that isn't a dang good reason to win...). I have always wanted a Roland JD990 (hint). Here's my reason/story. I hope I am not inflicting too much self pity on myself, but here it goes.

I am a keyboard player, I like to play around with interesting pads and like to spice keys up with all sorts of fx. In fact, part of my living now, is made doing that. I spent a few years in the US going to college. At the end of 99, I had to leave the country (no work visa), and come back to Paraguay, where I am originally from. That included shipping a bunch of crap back to Paraguay, stuff I had bought in the US, like a computer, etc...it was a wallet draining experience=no money for mo' gear. A couple months later, I started dating a good college friend who lives in Nashville (Elizabeth), while I was in Paraguay over email/occasional phone conversations. So far I've been able to visit only once, and I'll visit the 2nd time in about a week. Which puts my hopes toward purchasing new gear really low. My plans are to move back to the US (I just love the girl).

I figured I wouldn't have much or any money at all to spend on gear for at least another year, if things keep going this way.

I figured it's a pretty good reason to enter a contest. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Que pasa, Amigo?

WHAT!? You're putting a WOMAN ahead of gear aquisition? Well, I'll enter you in my GIVEAWAY - not a "contest" for legal reasons - but you're NEVER going to be able to join the Gear Sluts Club. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

When do I get to hear some music?

Around $200 I'd guess.

That's very substantial money to me. I just spent $500 on a Presonus mic preamp: that was money saved up for over a year, so it's my "big purchase" for 2001.

So having a dedicated multieffects for doing volume swells/ambient effects is a luxury. I have an ART X-15 midi pedal with two continuous controllers: the Q2 lets you set targets for certain parameters, alterable with the CC pedals. Having this unit seperate will allow me to step on a volume pedal as a send to the unit, have it swell up a big swirl of an ambient sound, at which point I can switch my regular setup without disturbing that effect. I can then use the CC pedals to alter the sound the Q2 is producing without having to mess with my Intellifex.

I don't run through digital units for my live sound - I run the Intellifex in a parallel loop, and I'd have to figure out a way to get the Q2 into my power amp without running my direct signal through it - but I can do it if I had an excuse.....

The Q2 isn't something I would want to use on a recording as an effect per se, but as a source for "ambient cloud" sounds ala David Torn, Holdsworth, Eno, etc. it's a cool unit due to the multitap chorus and reverb re-patching/routing capabilities (for regenerative things).

Luckily, I don't live in a third world country so I can't use that as an incentive. On the other hand, the grocery store is quite a humbling experience for me at this juncture in my life, and I'll admit I'll make better music spending $200 on food over the next two months instead of buying a Q2. So I don't *have* to have it - but it would be fun.

Now the MP20 mic preamp I just bought.... *that* was a neccessity. Right?

....Right?

Ramen noodle technology has come a long way, anyhow...

Yeah, around $200, but $200 is a lot to spend on a bonzai planter (see my original post) thus I'd really like to have the Quadraverb 2 so that I don't have to rationalize spending ridiculous amounts of money on one on line.

For most people's applications that are asking for it, $200 is a GREAT PRICE for what they're using it for. For my application, $200 is WAY overpriced, so it should rightfully go to me as the rest of the people can get a GREAT DEAL on one online whereas it would have to be something like $7 for it to be a GREAT DEAL for my needs.........

Just a further consideration.

Thanx Dan!

Nika.

Dan,

I'll make you a deal.

You send me the Quadraverb2 and I'll make you a nice little bonzai planter out of it and send it back to you. Juniper. Your gift to me. My gift to you.

Let's face it.........may be one of the best uses for it, no?

Keep me posted. I'm a baragainin' away here!

Nika,

Love ya man, but don't you think the Q2 should go to someone who can actually USE it? Maybe you should consider looking for one that's non-op to do the planter in. Too bad, I just tossed a old Peavey Univerb that was non-op that someone had given me years ago and I never got around to trying to fix... that would have worked great in your app.

I specified at the start of this thread that I would choose recipients based on their ability to MAKE MUSIC with this gear. There are lots of people on these boards with TALENT who, because of financial constraints, could use a little help in outfitting their rigs in order to share that talent with the rest of us. If I were to let you destroy a musical instrument that someone could use to make beautiful, interesting, challenging, compelling music, I'm robbing us all. Aren't you the one who skimps on haircuts in order to put money into gear? I think you're pulling my leg - at least, I HOPE you are. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif But either way, it's no deal. If I come across something truly worthless - like maybe some Behringer gear - we can talk about flowers, unless of course, you'd like to send me a bouquet in the shell of your $6000 microphone. (NOTE: Please don't. Just send me the mic; I'll add flowers later.) http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

P.S. Instead of juniper, why don't you send me some music to enjoy? I promise not to plant your CD. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif
