Who was the first kb player you saw play standing up?

My first rock concert was Elton John (yeah, he actually played rock in the early 70s!), and he spent most of his playing time standing and jumping, rather than sitting at the piano.

That same year I went to an ELP concert, and that was it. :D

The fact there's a Highway To Hell and only a Stairway To Heaven says a lot about anticipated traffic numbers

Yeah... I remember seeing Kansas a couple times in the late 70's and Steve Walsh was indeed the acrobatic wildman. He probably got laid more than most post WW2 keyboard / piano players with the exceptions of Jerry Lee, Jimmy Smith, Jon Lord, Keith Emerson, and possibly Billy Joel.

Paul Revere? Dave Clark?

Yup, those were the two that popped into my head. It seems like that's what the rockers did. Or at least the ones I noticed. When I started playing with people, it didn't occur to me to sit, maybe that's why. Here's another...

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

Since I probably stood up for the first time at around 6 to 9 months old, it could've been anyone. I really don't remember the first person I saw play once I was standing up. Most likely my uncle or one of my cousins who played. Unless you count seeing someone on TV, in which case it could've been Liberace.

I forgot about Domingo Samudio (aka Sam the Sham). He rocked.

Then there's Don Gallucci of the Kingsmen:

As a wee lad, maybe Greg Hawkes with The Cars?

Or Steve Nieve with Elvis Costello and The Attractions

Jools Holland with Squeeze

Daryl Hall with Hall and Oats

These are ones that stick out in my head growing up.

Mike Smith of the Dave Clark Five. Smith was also the lead singer. I was very young and couldn't understand why the band wasn't called the Mike Smith Five. It was my first lesson in the relative status of keyboard players and drummers in rock bands.

Ha! Yeah, I knew as I was writing it that the wording was a little awkward :)

In person, it was the guy in The Kingsmen. Of course, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis were doing it in the 50's.
