My latest sig probably crystallizes the crux of the fidelity issue for most of us.

The best, most useful and enjoyable keyboard you ever bought?
Polychrest replied to miden's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Most enjoyable: the Hammond M3 and Leslie 145 I used for a while in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Most useful: the Nord Electro 2 I bought around 2002 after a long hiatus from gigging. Its sound quality, versatility and portability were remarkable for the time. The best: still looking for it. -
If your DAW doesn’t have stem separation yet…

I was going to suggest maybe brilliant base stealer Ronald Acuna or his Braves equipment manager had been testing a new pair of spikes on the OP’s board while he was out of the room to see how they’d perform on smooth plastic, but that would just be silly and a waste of the OP’s time and patience.

Greatest Rock Keyboardist of our generation?
Polychrest replied to TommyRude's topic in The Keyboard Corner
Two great rockers from my generation: Mark Stein and Jon Lord. -
I’ve ordered KM stuff from these guys in the past. It sometimes takes a while to get here. https://www.avshop.ca/cases-amp-racks-keyboard-cases-amp-stands/k18880-keyboard-stand

Do any of you regularly gig with an expensive keyboard?
Polychrest replied to kpl1228's topic in The Keyboard Corner
My trusty old Electro 6D 73 now lists for $4,000 Canadian. What was a Corolla when I bought it is now a Camry. -
Yup. Dua Lipa’s mobile cage dance opener at the Grammys could have been an audition for next year’s Super Bowl booking. Lots of muscular dancing, skimpy costumes, clever prop use, pesky backing musicians kept well out of sight. As with Usher’s nutrient-free half-time roller-dance spectacle this year, there was way more food for the eyes than the ears, a triumph of choreography over music chops. Who would have thought the cheesy performance model patented by the June Taylor dancers on the Jackie Gleason show (and refined by Mel Brooks in “Springtime for Hitler” from The Producers) would find new life in the foreground of big pop music shows today? Talk about acid flashbacks….

I think you can get them at your local Walter White Castle.

John Cage: Organ playing 639-year-long piece changes chord I suspect Jordan Rudess passed on the gig.

No more Drummers! Time for a reliable one
Polychrest replied to D- Music's topic in The Keyboard Corner
I use mine primarily as a practice metronome at home. Respectable sounds, to put it politely. It can get the juices flowing when cranked up loud. When I’ve taken it to practices or jams when real drummers aren’t available, its robotic character is exposed—minutes on end of perfectly quantized loops. I’ve been guilty of throwing in random fills to break the monotony when I’m not too busy. Its greatest virtue is that you can turn it down when it gets oppressive, unlike a real drummer. And it doesn’t ask you to help carry its gear. I paid half as much for mine pre-Covid as what Canadian retailers are asking now. I guess I was richer then.
