  1. I remain of two minds on this. On the one hand I have always enjoyed recreating as faithful to studio recording performance as I could. It offers challenges that are unlike anything else. But, I like to be free to make my own decisions and take my own approaches too. I guess this is how it will always be.
  2. Thanks for this. Seems that the X50 was in MIDI 11. I removed some other devices and it jumped up below MIDI 10 and that fixed it. Seems like KORG should address why their drivers must be in the first page of available MIDI positions. thanks again.
  3. Interestingly enough I watched DEVO performing with Neil Young on Hey Hey My My just this afternoon
  4. I have done all of the above. Everything checks out EXCEPT that the Korg shows up like this: As you can see it has a speaker icon next to it and is listed under "Bluetooth & other devices" That doesn't seem right. It will dissapear/reapear if I unplug and replug in the usb cable.
  5. My X50 editor in Windows 10 has started playing up and I can't find a fix anywhere. It used to work but now when I start the program it says: "X50 Hardware is not found. Rescan whole all MIDI devices?" OK and CANCEL buttons beneath. I checked the drivers. Uninstalled and reinstalled everything. Looked for updates. Even edited my registry as recommended in one help video. Problem persists. I did initially have issues running this software in Windows 10 last year but the same helpful online advice I have already followed did the trick and got it to work. Now only this error. Anyone know what I can try?
  6. I was in a Doors tribute band for a while and authentic recreation was the name of the game. From the equipment to the clothing but most importantly the music. With the exception of the solos (where I took liberties after doing the note for note version) we tried to sound just like the recordings. I'm not in a tribute band any longer (thank god) and am embarking on doing a by myself thing in a busking situation. I don't really do covers at all in this mode, but I found myself meandering into one as I was inspired by a factory preset in my keyboard. It was a different tempo, different groove and completely new feel for this old chestnut. I really dug it. Now, I'm thinking about possibly revisiting my old repertoire and putting a completely personal flavor on everything. Opinions? Faithful or playful?
  7. What about this thing? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LS718PL/ref=syn_sd_onsite_desktop_0?ie=UTF8&pd_rd_plhdr=t&th=1
  8. It's one of the three options I put in my post. Question: Wouldn't putting larger circumference wheels on the back make the whole thing nosedive?
  9. We used to have this blue folding wagon to take our beach stuff to the (you guessed it) beach. I searched high and low for it this afternoon and cannot find it anywhere, but I'm pretty sure it would be just the ticket. Nice big wheels that can do 360 degrees, adjustable handle for pulling and the whole thing folds up like an accordion. I searched for similar on Amazon and they aren't cheap. This one looks best to me so far: Competing concepts are the following: https://www.amazon.com/Cosco-Shifter-300-Pound-Capacity-Multi-Position/dp/B01IFMSKAQ/ref=sr_1_19?crid=71AAJDMJQNNX&keywords=musicians%2Bhand%2Btruck&qid=1684794490&sprefix=musicians%2Bhand%2Btruck%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-19&th=1#customerReviews and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W4GG2MT/ref=sspa_dk_detail_5?pf_rd_p=f734d1a2-0bf9-4a26-ad34-2e1b969a5a75&pf_rd_r=V0KPD7TG5NZQ48GHR8Y8&pd_rd_wg=9jCkn&pd_rd_w=r9VM1&content-id=amzn1.sym.f734d1a2-0bf9-4a26-ad34-2e1b969a5a75&pd_rd_r=7ee176ad-23f3-4918-9257-601d6e0da8e8&s=musical-instruments&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWw&th=1 and I have indeed looked into the rock n rollers so there's those too
  10. Don't you guys think I should have sides? Like on a wagon or something? I'm kind of scared of my gear dropping off behind me
  11. One or two 61 key keyboards in cases Boss Cube Street II Single or double tier keyboard stand Folding stool (negotiable) cables AC power bank Refreshments (water etc.) I live two blocks from the boardwalk and want to be able to take the gear from my front door to said boardwalk. There are ramps to enter the boardwalk as well. Eventually I will need to be able to take this transport onto the LIRR and around Manhattan if the cosmos will it.
  12. Today was the first day where weather conditions and my schedule allowed me to take all my battery operated gear (and gear with a rechargeable AC power supply) out the the backyard and give the whole project a dry run. Everything worked and sounded very good. I played for about an hour or so and them realized I was running out of steam. Not battery power, MY power. I started to get hot, tired and was running out of ideas to play. I'm guessing that stamina will develop as I start to do this on a regular basis. I also learned that I will need to invest in some kind of cart to move everything to a location all at once since I had to make two trips to get everything outside. Looking at hand trucks, beach wagons, dollies and various carts. What is something that I can drag (or push) around without worrying about my gear falling off? Not too expensive please.
  13. I don't know if I should sell or keep the Behringer TD-3 now. Selling it would of course defray some of the expense of the new AIRA, but I did woodshed some on the TD-3 and it seems a shame to throw all that homework out the window. Once the Roland AIRA T-8 arrives will I grow less fond of the TD-3 anyway? I'm leaning on keeping it but I dunno really
  14. I think I'm going to get the Roland AIRA. Battery operated (rechargeable internal batt) Onboard delay and reverb Bass AND Rhythm all in one small easy to transport package with tiny footprint and no worrying about patching things together to get sync The only thing left to decide now is if I should sell the TD-3 (which is kind of a shame after learning how to do everything with it) or keeping it for something less remote like desktop YT video content. EDIT: Ordered the Roland AIRA will arrive on Saturday
  15. Oh the rest of the AIRA compact family hasn't been lost on me. I suffer from critical GAS.
  16. Thank you Rabid and Governor for responding. I should explain my plans for these boxes so that I can get the best advice possible. I'm not an acid house person TBH, but I do love that I can create interesting robotic backing tracks on the fly to improvise over on keyboards. MIDI is only important to me in regards to the clock (master/slave) and not much else with the possible exception of perhaps using a MIDI controller on the bass synth for experimenting. The fact that the Roland AIRA has an internal rechargeable battery is HUGE for me because I plan to use these outdoors. I am powering the Behringer with a bank (extra gear to lug around) and the idea that I could get close to the same performance out of the AIRA without any extra power sources is a big plus. I didn't know you couldn't tweak the bass sounds on the Roland though, that might actually be a deal breaker. It's one thing for the drums (especially really electronic sounding) drums to remain unchanging, but if the bass timbre never changes that would get boring very quickly. I also plan on making some YT videos with all my gear including these kits at some point so that factors slightly into my intentions as well. What will look most interesting as I fiddle with them on camera. TLDR version. Portable for unpowered use is important but I have ways around that. (Behringer's stuff isn't battery powered, why?). Gear will primarily be used not for ACID but to make interesting on the fly backing tracks. Not adverse to getting the AIRA to pair with the TD-3 although if there is enough overlap I might opt to sell the TD-3 and just enjoy the AIRA. Thanks for all the help so far.
  17. I don't know where else I can ask this question, so if anyone knows a better forum to put this query to please let me know. Last year I bought the Behringer TD-3 on flash sale for under $100, but I didn't take any kind of deep dive into it until this month. I've been playing with it a lot and enjoying what it can do and how it can sound and decided maybe I should buy the companion rhythm box the Behringer RD-6 to go with it (currently going for around 150 bones) As YT will do, watching videos to learn about the RD6 combined with the TD3 it started seeing video recommendations for the Roland AIRA T-8. I looks like the Roland T-8 ($200 or so) can do the job of both the TD-3 and the RD-6 in a single compact box. The question is should I just buy the AIRA T-8 and forget the Behringer RD-6 or would I be better served buying the RD-6 since I already have the TD-3 and have taken the time to learn my way all around the TB303 clone? Does anyone have experience with all three of these items? How does the Behringer pair stack up against the solo Roland T-8? Asking for a friend....me!
  18. All the gear that I acquired for this project is battery operated, but I'm wondering. If I wanted to take my Korg X50 outside would this little power bank from Amazon suffice to play it for a few hours? https://www.amazon.com/Portable-39600mAh-External-Emergency-Adventure-Grey/dp/B09PTKV81R/ref=asc_df_B09PTKV81R/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=564808018280&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2226976600092763132&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004454&hvtargid=pla-1649535186871&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0tKiBhC6ARIsAAOXutkNj_b1XbgjkhaqPhFcx2jbeQe-B-V-_QVqYlkfcp515roOqGjEt-caAidBEALw_wcB&th=1
  19. I think my primary reason to do this is to have some fun and play in front of people again
  20. If not full on busking then at least I'll be playing outdoors a lot this summer. I got myself some battery powered gear and can't wait for the incessant rain to stop so I can at least try it all out in my backyard. Any advice? Any anecdotes to share? Do you HAVE to take requests?
  21. My Roland JX-8P was the first keyboard I used in a gigging band. I elected to put duct tape over the logo on the back. I chose duct tape because the tape resembles the finish of the keyboard itself. I still have this keyboard and must admit that my attempts to remove all traces of the duct tape have me regretting the decision immensely. I will never stick anything on any of my keyboards again, with the exception of a vinyl wrap. Even my cases remain pristine.
