Geoff Grace
Wow! Thank you all for your kind words! I in turn would like to express my appreciation to all who created the content I've posted here. eric
Nothing new or unique to report here, but sharing a few things I've spotted and enjoyed. I think the Moog Sub37 is my favorite item and one that I could see making it into my rig. It has been hard to get much time with it, as the Moog booth is always hopping! http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l538/e888000008/2014%20namm/2CCF161C-BC35-427D-B810-64F2C2D6EF6C.jpg I still don't understand why Nord has released the NL4 and now the NLA1, but as a longtime fan of the classic NL, I have to say I enjoyed playing the NLA1. If they would figure out how to bring it to market for $999, it would sell like hot cakes. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l538/e888000008/2014%20namm/F4965241-0A0A-4168-A2DE-0ABFA7A26C37.jpg I've never been a keytar guy, but the new Korg RK100s seems pretty cool. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l538/e888000008/2014%20namm/30CAD71E-CE38-4CD9-9E2E-B40AB8D2678B.jpg The Roland FA08 has some good stuff at the right price. I hope I get some time today with the RD800. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l538/e888000008/2014%20namm/646640EB-E13F-485A-9138-5CCD17C24DDA.jpg Here's the forum's own Jim Alfredson tearing it up on the Hammond XK-1c http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l538/e888000008/2014%20namm/1E4679E4-5DCC-48B7-9DFF-2CD040AA5342.jpg Alicia Keys' keyboard wizard totally ripping it up on a NS2. Michael W
I don't think people would have expected the full Jupiter 50 SN sound set and a whole lot more in something that sells for far less than a Jupiter 50. I get your point, but there are only 77 SN acoustic tones in the Jupiter-50. MAJUSCULE
I'll join in and give special thanks to NAMM King Geoff. As well to Eric, great pics! I'm coming away from NAMM with GAS for the Sub 37 and still for the PX5-S. I might flip my FP-4 for the latter. Not sure if I'd want to flip my Mopho or combine it with the Sub 37. I suppose ca$h will dictate that. The FA-08 would also be interesting, but I'll have to see if it does the job as DP. KeyMoe
I am interested in the FA-08 depending on the action. Looking for a new bottom keyboard for my live rig.... HammondDave
Had a chance to really sit down and play the Roland RD800. The piano sounds are good, but I really hated the action. On the other hand, the new Yamaha stage piano is a dream to play. The action feels like one of their high end acoustic grands. The difference is truly night and day. Dave Ferris
You were able to sit and play the 800 ? Lucky you. I had to wait behind 2 other people just to stand and play it, with no sustain pedal. It was so inspiring I managed to play all of 4 minutes and 10 seconds.... The sound was decent enough, nothing special though. And I didn't think the action was that bad...I've played much worse-like the Kurz Artis. Now that's bad to put it mildly! A shame because the new sample is quite good. If you have to play a DP to work, yes nothing tops the Yamaha CP4, except maybe the CP5 or 1... Kicking myself I missed Joey Calderazzo & Branford Marsalis up in the Schimmel room playing duo. I heard they were great. Picked Maryboard out of a sea of humanity coming down the escalator as I was on my way out with my friends. Said a quick hello. There was a gold leaf plated Bosendorfer (I think a 225) in the one of the side rooms of the Marriott to celebrate their 50,000th grand piano. Heard it was selling for $750,00. Man talk about over the top opulent looking...would have made Liberace proud It had some stautettes on each end of the keyboard. My friend said they looked like a pair of Jack Nicholson Oscars.. Really a butt ugly piano. Some guy was playing Take 5 on it. I couldn't bear to touch it. Hung out with fellow forum member Alex Hernandez at his Bluthner space for a spell. He pointed me towards a beautiful sounding and playing 48" Bluthner upright. Super nice action for an upright along with a gorgeous mellow tone that I wish I could have heard better in a more quiet environment--like my living room ! Right next door was the Fazioli space. The Fazioli 228 played better and sounded more focused, tonally, then the 9'er next to it. A dream piano for sure ! Carlo you need one of these man... When I win the lottery I'm gonna buy you one. https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris https://www.youtube.com/@daveferris2709

Dave Ferris
Some more stuff I forgot: Talked to some Pro Audio people. Dan Kennedy of Great River. Unfortunately didn't get to meet Doug Fearn of DW Fearn as he had a family emergency and couldn't make it. But a few of his products were on display = DROOL ! The VT2 preamp, VT5 tube eq. The new RCF TT1-A with a 10" is a super sharp looking and sounding box. It's small but 55 lbs. Doesn't do wedge position and I'd probably need assistance to place on a pole but it's much smaller then my TT22A. Love to hear the NP2 and vocals through them. http://www.rcf.it/products/touring-and-theatre/tt1-a I finally heard that Sennheiser E965 condenser stage mic. That thing kills ! I was able to A/B it with what I use, their E945, which is very good but the 965 absolutely was far superior to it in regards to fullness and detail...a huge wow ! Plus a 10 year no fault warranty. I don't use my Neumann KMS-105 live anymore, just in the studio when working on vocals. I'm terrified I'll drop it and it'll be $600 down the drain. I've heard they range from hard/$$$ to impossible to repair once dropped. Might have to get that Senn 965 , more robust build then the Neumann. Amazing sounding mic. I liked it better then the $900 new stage condenser offering from DPA too. https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris https://www.youtube.com/@daveferris2709
miden
Found this by accident, no actual video from NAMM, but from the website...even though for guitarists I could see a use for solo keys players. It is called BeatBuddy http://www.gizmag.com/beatbuddy-guitar-drum-stomp/30159/ [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctQZ5kewUcU There is no luck - luck is simply the confluence of circumstance and co-incidence...
