simajanpa
So I just returned from NYC where I saw the Broadway show "A Night with Janis Joplin" The keyboard player, Tyler Evans, was using what appeared to be a C3 Case. I say case only because he was playing piano on the bottom manual so I assumed that's what was going on. I didn't care for the "Hammond " tone he was getting out of this rig, it sounded like a Rompler, especially with the fast Leslie speed.(no visable Leslie cab) At the end of the show during a highly deserving standing ovation, I just caught a glimps of some reverse keys on the top manual. (Hammond or KeyB Solo in the top position?) So I'm not quite sure what I was listening to. My observation was this, he was seen but not heard enough, and what I did hear of the organ, I was not that impressed, sound wise. The piano sound though was very nice. If you are playing this sort of venue by all means looks count, but to this musician in the crowd, sound and ability always trumps looks. JMHO. If I was still playing out in local clubs live, I would never bother with the extra fake wood case thing. Paul

Losendoskeys
Nice but probably a pain to set up gig after gig. Not really - as I mentioned before we cart a whole heap of equipment around and this weighs 26Kg. It unfolds then two knurled nuts for each shelf and its ready! Ross Ward
I took an old upright that wasn't seeing use anymore around my church and turned it into a shell for my Nord Stage. Sanded, refinished, distressed, and wired to interface with the rest of my rig. I even wired the actual sustain pedal of the piano to work with the Nord. PowerCon in, stereo outs, a jack for an expression pedal, and a MIDI jack added after the photos were taken. http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o748/rossward10/IMG_0347_zps091977c4.jpg http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o748/rossward10/IMG_0408_zps4941b8f2.jpg http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o748/rossward10/IMG_0407_zps30c668ed.jpg http://i1341.photobucket.com/albums/o748/rossward10/IMG_0409_zpscdc9e4b1.jpg

rickzjamm
I'm thinking of doing that to an old Lester Betsy Ross upright. Was that a long process & do you have step by step pic? I like it. Ross Ward
The process wasn't too awful. It would have been easier if I hadn't also refinished the piano. I don't have step-by-step photos, but I can take some better ones for you of all of the inner workings and such next time I get the chance. Bossbandbob
Thinking of constructing a light weight, foldable faux B3 Cabinet for my keyboards. It won't be a carbon copy but like Loose-end's case, it will resemble the original. I have the basic dimensions for the original B3 but I need two other measurements to help me plan this out. What is the height of the legs from just floor to cabinet, and what is the height of just the cabinet skirt on the sides at its maximum height? Meaning the skirt that wraps around the sides and back. Thanks! Bossbandbob
Actually Px-5S and VR-09.I should have room in the case for my mini monitor and Vent on either side of the VR-09.So that will be my total stage footprint. The Px-5S is the challenge, being so damn long but I'm taking the end caps off but I still had to make it 50" wide as a B3 is 48". This still gives me the top casing overhang on the left which I'll either have to cut off or somehow cut a slit in the stand. Not sure if I'd void the Casio warranty by cutting that off. Bossbandbob
Thanks guys. I actually first thought the idea of doing this was crazy until I saw some of the cool stuff in this thread and got frustrated with stands I have bought. An unexpected side benefit is that it feels like I've switched from driving a little compact car bouncing in the wind to a big luxury model when I'm playing using it. It makes everything feel solid like a Hammond console. As I can put my mini monitor and vent on either side of the Roland this is my total stage foot print. I can also put a bigger floor monitor under it as well. The keyboards are supported with just 2 1x3 removable cross braces with dowels protruding on each side that insert into 1x3" supports attached to the inner sides. I'll post a picture of that later. The front of the PX rests on the table leg tops and the VR-09 rests on the back top edge of the PX with 2 pieces of Velcro to stop it from sliding into the knobs. The front wood piece is velcro'ed to the front bottom of the PX just for looks. rickzjamm
Very nice job, but it looks heavy. Is it something you'd take to all your gigs? You don't know you're in the dark until you're in the light.
Bossbandbob
It's not that heavy. I tried to design it to be light as possible. I can carry it with one arm and it feels slightly lighter than my old Roland VK-7, so I'm guessing 28-30lbs. I could lighten more it by changing the back panel to 1/4" ply but not sure if that would be sturdy enough. It is bulky though(due to the legs) for turning corners on doorways and stairwells. I will use it for gigs with easy access and larger stages. It is only about 1" bigger L x W than my usual set up.
