e-keys
I am looking to buy a grill soon and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the infrared (IR) Grills, pros or cons. Thanks
Threadslayer
The bomb. 100% satisifed user for over 2 years. I thought it was a gimmick when I first heard about it - Wrong. Mine is an ODEON which is BBQ Galore's house brand. Well designed, easy to clean, even temperature distribution, super hot sear, pro grill marks... I could go on and on. If you like to grill, you will love IR. (I am not affiliated with anybody). Ken Beaumont
Mine works great! I have a CharGrill Big Easy, what I really like is it has a compartment for putting wood chips in. It does Grilling, Roasting and its a smoker. Plus the grill is very light and can be cleaned very easily. Unlike my old grill that had a heavy iron grate. DanL
My grill has a ceramic "sear burner" that is separate from the gas part. It gets real hot and works well on doing a couple steaks, but it doesn't hold a candle to a good hardwood/charcoal fire. I probably use my charcoal grill 10 times for every time I use the gas. It sears a steak much better, giving you that nice mahogany colored crust while sealing the juices in. Threadslayer
Interesting range of opininions. Here in Ca. we grill all the time. I like a good old school bed of hardwood coals as well as the next man, but with the IR I can come home from work, fire that mother up, and in about 10 minutes the heavy iron grill bars are smoldering at 550 degrees. When I toss on the steak/fish/chicken/veggies you can hear the sizzle across the street. And it burns so hot, that the drippings reduce to ash. Cleanup is a breeze. For day in day out home use, you can't beat the convenience. DanL
I agree with that Wastrel, doing the charcoal thing is a time committment for sure, and gas is very convenient. I also hate burning a chimney full of coals to cook a couple steaks for 3 minutes per side, seems like a waste when it's just my wife and I. But to me the benefits are worth the extra time. Ken Beaumont
Putting a few wood chips in mine makes a huge difference. Having that smoke makes all the difference. Plus when using it as full out smoker it is way easier to regulate the temperature with gas. While we're on this subject, how about some "grill porn"? Here's mine, from left to right, sear burner, gas grill, charcoal grill, smoker box. http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj60/dan88z/F80212E3-8D7A-41C6-AFE8-26998FD3015A-26064-00002BD42C4E1AB7_zps27d916fc.jpg Live: Korg Kronos 2 88, Nord Electro 5d Nord Lead A1 Toys: Roland FA08, Novation Ultranova, Moog LP, Roland SP-404SX, Roland JX10,Emu MK6 www.bksband.com www.echoesrocks.com
