Dana.
Punch Drunk Love - Adam Sandler in a very non-Adam Sandler-type role. He is GREAT in this movie. Which also has a great maniacal soundtrack by Jon Brion. Oh, are there other Jon Brion fans on the forum?

A friend of mine played there and hung out with Jon afterwards and nothing but kind words about him. A true original musically. Mike Martin
There have been a lot of great movies this year although I haven't seen as many of them as I would have liked. I'm looking forward to Avatar this weekend. I hate to admit this...I watched Julia & Julia with my wife last weekend on DVD. I found it to be really inspiring movie. Watch it with your wife/girlfriend - maybe you'll be surprised how much you like it too. It's about cooking, but the spirit of the movie could apply to anything in your life such as music. -Mike Martin Casio Mike Martin Photography Instagram Facebook The Big Picture Photography Forum on Music Player Network The opinions I post here are my own and do not represent the company I work for. eric
I don't go to see movies at the theater very often other than a local spot called The Byrd, which is an art deco masterpiece from the '20s that shows exiting movies for $1.99. I have not seen too many new ones this year, but a few silly ones stand out: - Burn After Reading - The Hangover - I Love You Man Regards, Eric
Jason Stanfield
In the theater, District 9, with Trek a close second. On video, Sleep Dealer. The worst: Transformers 2, unequivocally the worst movie ever made. Jason Stanfield

jarrell
Is Lives of Others that German movie about STASI and the collapse of the Berlin wall? If so, I'm surprised that it made it into the mainstream USA distribution. Great movie! Yes, that is the one, it won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2007. Thanks for your recommendations... I've heard really good things about "The Best of Youth," have you seen that?

MAJUSCULE
Hard to remember all the good ones from the last year... District 9 Star Trek No Country for Old Men Zombieland (although there is always room for more zombie killing, they got the quality) Burn After Reading Inglorious Basterds, once I see it! Wish I could remember more. Eric Website Gear page
RichieP_MechE
For movies this year, I would also have to go with Inglourius Basterds. The most 'blown away' I was by any movie would have to be the remake of Casino Royale. The whole opening parkour chase scene was just ridiculous. Seeing it on the huge screen in the theater definitely added to the impact. The movie was a complete shift from any of the other Bond films I'd seen, and I really, really liked it. My favorite movie theater experience was going to see 'Superbad' with a bunch of friends. Definitley the hardest I ever laughed. It was just a great time. allan_evett
Just watched Gran Torino, WOW. +1. We saw it earlier this year. Good throughout, but the last 10 minutes made a huge impact. WOW, indeed... After all the mentions here, I've now got to see "Inglourius Basterds". I highly recommend "Burn After Reading". John Malkovich alone, would be worth the price of admission on this one. Great characters all around, though. marino
I've heard really good things about "The Best of Youth," have you seen that? It's a great, moving movie. As an attempt to tell the evolution of Italian customs and events in the last 40 years, it's very Italy-specific - you're supposed to know at least a little bit of our history beforehand. But at the same time, it's the story of the conflicting relationship between two brothers, who face life in opposite ways. Not boring or academic at all (the story of the disturbed girl is really touching), it's a vast overview, full of events. Only thing, the full version is *two* full-blown movies, so you'll probably have to set a couple of evenings to watch it all!
