  1. As a Pats fan, never thought I would see Brady playing for another team, but I have to admit I've been curious to see what the team would look like after he's gone. It's not the ideal circumstances but it's exciting to see a new era of the team begin. Cam is a completely different type of QB so it will be interesting to see how their approach changes.
  2. They're not without their issues, but the presence of performing rights orgs like ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC is overall a good thing for artists IMO. As far as streaming, there are better options anyway like YouTube and Twitch, which you can then embed in Facebook if you want. Not being able to stream through Facebook shouldn't prevent you from streaming on Facebook if that's what you want to do, just will require some extra steps.
  3. Also auto-drafted, and other than drafting two kickers it didn't do half bad this year for me. Thankfully I was able to use custom player rankings that I had already set for another league. Hey, if the season doesn't happen we could always award the winner based on draft grade.
  4. Always tough to get a gauge on these sample sets when it comes to demos vs actual playing. I ended up purchasing The Grandeur recently because I loved how the demos sounded, but playing it feels a little lackluster. Maybe I need to spend some time tweaking things, I don't know. I remember checking out Ravencroft as well and not being particularly blown away sound-wise, but since it's getting so much praise here I'm thinking it's worth another look. It's really too bad there's no way to test how these sample sets feel in terms of playing without purchasing them. I'd be willing to spend the time downloading a demo version just so can test drive it. Piano in Blue is one I really like. If they included more velocity layers, it would be perfect.
  5. I have to admit I never actually understood what this song was about until fairly recently, like a couple years ago. I was well familiar with the tune, but for whatever reason I never really paid much attention to the lyrics until it randomly came up in a conversation with my father. Also Why would somebody write a song about an elusive Asian man who leads a life of danger? I don't know, I was a kid. I wasn't trying to make sense of it. That guitar lick sounded pretty Asian to my young, uninformed ears too, which only seemed to confirm it in my mind.
  6. Got my vinyl copy of the new Aphex Twin in the mail today. Seriously freaking good. I've played it a couple times through, and it gets better with each listen.
  7. Some time ago, I played a Promega at shop on a few different occasions. From what I remember, it played great and sounded great. Unfortunate design though. I remember not digging the control panel and how the thing was shaped. I really haven't heard much of anything about GEM stuff in more recent times. They still in business? I found their website through Google, but it didn't really provide any evidence. edit: Just noticed the thread that Joe posted above.
  8. The dynamic range of an actual clavichord is generally more like mp down to pp. It's a very quiet instrument.
  9. Dynamics in Baroque music are always subject to debate, but much of Bach's music was actually written for clavichord, rather than harpsichord. It's similar in sound to harpsichord, but is able to produce a range of dynamics. Bach almost certainly played these pieces with dynamics himself, but leaving it up to the performer was a common practice at the time, as details like dynamics were considered more of an afterthought. So, dynamics weren't often indicated, but that doesn't mean dynamics were or should be absent. I feel like most Bach pieces sort of "play themselves" in terms of dynamics though.
  10. Definitely seen this name before, but I don't know if I had heard their stuff. I really dig it! I've seen Zack Brock live a few times, and he's a bad mofo.
  11. Yeah, ultimately it's about confidence. If you don't have the confidence to belt something out on cue, then you're probably gonna suck on stage. On the other hand, if your voice isn't the greatest, then having that enthusiasm can make up for it. After all, there are a ton of singers (especially in rock music) that don't have the greatest singing ability. Confidence goes a long way.
  12. Any time that has ever happened, I always say "let me hear what you sound like. Sing something acapella right now." Most people, when put on the spot like that, tend to chicken out. Then no explanation is necessary.
  13. I can't really compete with most of these stories, but one really odd event jumps to mind where someone made a request that defied expectations. Probably one of those "had to be there" moments, but anyway... In college, myself and a few other guys had a weekly gig at this small bar that decided they wanted to have jazz one night a week. It was a pretty loose affair, musically speaking. We played a lot of weird shit, basically whatever we wanted to do. The kind of stuff you never get to play at most jazz gigs. We just played for free drinks because it was a fun outlet. That kind of thing. Anyway, this one night we were just killing some tune to the point where it was practically atonal. I was playing Cecil Taylor shit. We were just going insane. I'm sure nobody enjoyed it, but we were having a blast. This absolutely smoking hot blond in an expensive-looking dress walks up me in the middle of the "song" with this look in her eyes like she wants me to nail her right there on the piano bench. She reaches over and gently wraps her arms around my neck. At this point, I'm already thinking about the letter I'm going to write to Penthouse Forum. She kind of flips her hair back, gets real close, and whispers in my ear (in the middle of this chaotic music, mind you) "do you know any James Blunt?" There was something so surreal about it, like it was straight out of a David Lynch film. I don't remember what I stammered in reply, because it was fairly evident from what we were playing that James Blunt tunes are not in our repertoire, but for her...man, I've never wished I listened to wussy soft rock until that night.
  14. What did the drummer say right before he got kicked out of the band? - "Hey guys, when do we get to play MY songs?" What's the difference between a dead chicken on the side of the road and a dead trombonist on the side of the road? - There's a remote chance that the chicken was on its way to a gig. and finally, and old gem: What is the difference between a bull and an orchestra? - A bull has the horns in front and the asshole in the back.
  15. Looks like we got a couple of budding Jerry Seinfelds on our hands.
