I heard that song in the old movie "Black Orpheus" and remembered it. Joe Henderson did it too. I'd never seen a chart and didn't know what it was called. Piano4U kindly told me the name. At linwood's suggestion in another thread, I am posting a solo piano arrangement of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" that I originally posted over in the Listening Room on the Garritan forum. It uses the Garritan Steinway "Under the Lid" perspective with no release and no soft samples, with a bit of the onboard reverb. I played this straight into the audio recorder on the standalone player. Check it out here: Somewhere Over the Rainbow It's not much of a reharm, as I believe I am playing most of the stock changes. I've posted a Video (flash) file. The music is a demo of an arrangement I did for my church's Worship Team for our Christmas concert. We played the piece in sync to the video. The video was produced "after hours" by the video editor at my day gig. The video goes blank during the instrumental sections as soloists were on screen. It was performed live by a 13 piece band (including horns), but the demo is all me (+ singers). 'Hope no one's offended by the subject... but then again, ya don't have to watch! Merry Christmas! SK Posted December 28, 2008 Author Share Posted December 28, 2008 That inspired me to try one bop song, "Confirmation" (some of the melody is intact.) This one is anything but pretty. Lots of intentional cliches... a style I don't play anymore. But it's part of the 'language' of that period - although I slipped up and occasionally throw in a slightly modern idea. Ridiculous bunch of notes. Minimal reharm and not an "original composition", so I didn't know where else to post it. (removed "Confirmation - forgot to EQ it. I'll repost it in a minute.) While I'm here, I'll add this loose, experimental reharm of "I Love You" as a palette cleanser. I heard a version once (don't remember who did it) which used some Giant Step changes cleverly inserted in spots, so I tried to reconstruct some of that and added other stuff. Kind of out for the tune, but brings out another dimension to the song. After the reharm, I stuck some sections of me blowing over different tempos. I was actually practicing the form and forgot it was being recorded. So you'll hear me free soloing when I'm not aware of recording. Your "I Love You" reharm is amazing and your "musings" are definitely hardcore - wow. Your playing is very definitive, with a strong sense of intent and conviction. Great stuff. Dave - Really nice playing on "Bouncing With Bud". I like your left hand support throughout. That is one tough tune. Great job! I threw in way too much on Confirmation, like some bad actor hamming up a character, but it's probably the only time I'll record it or maybe play it again. Like I said, there are a few Giant Step type chords (3 to 5) in "I Love You" I'd heard somewhere before. Not completely my reharm, but with the added stuff, it does make an obstacle course.
