  1. I make detailed notated charts in finale and use my iPad. A ton of work up front but I'm fast at it and then I have the song ready to go for life.
  2. This was Chris Botti's keyboard section in the early 2010s. Imagine having GK on 'aux' keys.
  3. I love mine but only because it works great for my particular cover band situation.
  4. That piano always seems to sit perfectly in a mix. It doesn't matter if it's 15 years old.
  5. I've always loved this for the funky Tim Levebre bass line. I love the line and his overall style. And I love this for the subject matter. The corn dog bullet sash kills me.
  6. Didn't know one of the trumpets would switch to bone sometimes. I thought it was always 2 trumpets 2 tenors 1 bari and that was the TOP sound (except in the studio where they'd overdub). Shows what I really know about this great band.
  7. Damn the band sounds so good here. The pocket somehow seems depeer. I love how high the organ is in the mix. An essential part of the sound IMO. I've played TOP tunes when the keys aren't loud enough (and frankly I'm not funky enough) and it can fall flat. This groove is undeniable.
  8. I know Genevieve from my time in LA in the late 00s. She was part of the CSUN crew we all had a regular Sunday night Jam at the Sunset House of Blues with. It has been fun to watch her double down on everything quirky and badass and link up with Louis and go on this uncompromosingly creative run. Louis is a ridiculous musician. One of the few drummers Nate Wood trusts to sub for him in Kneebody. It's very inspiring to me.
  9. Can't wait to listen. His piano solo on 'Sailing' was my ticket into his genius long ago.
  10. I've been to Dave's beautiful pad several times and I always admire it. This is definitely the best part though. (the converted detached garage with the Steinway D in it)
  11. Appreciate the lookout. San Diego is a series of canyons and mesas, and fortunately I am on a mesa. As of now I'm fine. I can walk to the end of my street and look down into Mission Valley which is the course of the San Diego river, and predictably there's tons of flooding down there. 15 minutes ago we also got the first 'tornado warning' I have ever seen here. The window for it has already passed and it wasn't in my direct path anyway. But times they are a changin.
  12. I have never done a show and I've always wanted to dip my toe in. I would love the challenge. I'm a decent reader (not the amazing level of so many that I know) and I am used to playing lots of stuff on multiple boards with patch changes. I relish any chance I get to follow a conductor because I only get to do it once or twice a year. It always takes me a few minutes to switch that part of my brain on. The money is bad though! I just can't afford to do those kinds of gigs at the moment. Maybe one day.
  13. It's in my Hal Leonard TV Themes Fake book that I got 20 years ago. I play it at the Padres games anytime the Mariners are in town.
  14. Sight reading in Gb is a little easier for me and I'd rather see it, but as others said, it really does help to know where the tune is headed. Play enough classical and you don't get as phased by tons of double sharps or double flats. And I'd rather see double sharps than double flats. I know it doesn't make sense.
  15. By the way, throw this youtube vid on while you sit at the piano and it's a great little reading session.
  16. That's a kind thing to say buddy. Of course the way you feel about your own playing is the way I feel about mine. Fun how that works!
  17. Sorry haven't logged on for a few days. I just pulled the fader for the main part of a piano performance down to 0 and saved it. When I navigate away from and back to that patch the volume is still 0 and there is zero volume from the outputs. That should solve your problem right?
  18. Was supposed to go today but tested positive for Covid. Will have to see you all there next year.
  19. I have never used the CP4 to control mainstage but I don't see any reason why you couldn't presave a performance that has the volume of the main part all the way down at 0 or 1 so that all you would hear is the computer.
  20. Still not sure what you are asking, and your prickly tone is kind of strange. I like A ionian to G lydian. Love that sound. Are you asking for compositional help with where to go next? Someone suggested F# aeolian. The I, VII, vi progression is one I love - check out Sister Cheyrl by Wynton Marsalis (its in B). And you might get ideas on where to take the tune after that. Are you asking on how to analyze your idea theoretically? You can do it several different ways. It's partly gonna depend on where the tune goes after this. You could certainly write it with three sharps and nobody would bat an eye.
  21. I have the whole thing baby. Bought that book from --- Dave Ferris I think!? Or maybe Dave loaned me his for awhile, then I gave it back, then I bought it elsewhere. Or did I loan it to Dave for awhile? I don't remember. Either way that book has the whole first Elektrik band album and it's GREAT. Send me a PM on FB or e-mail Menno. This clip of KC - which is my fave Elektrik Band tune - is great. I am a little shocked to hear how much Pattituci is playing on top. Or am I crazy? The groove is less settled than I remember it being, but it could be that I am just becoming more aware of what different time feels like as I get older and wiser. I too love the Scott Henderson incarnation best.
  22. It's always incredibly educational to see videos of yourself in action. It often stings! But you can learn what are good ways and bad ways to move your body on stage. What translates and what is actually distractingly bad. I'm still figuring it out to be honest.
