The voice is so ethereal! Fantastic! Anyhow, I recorded this at The Lair @ GreenMan Entertainment over the course of 2 hours on Sunday, March 14th & 4 hours on Monday, March 15th. It was a welcome break from my two current projects (CyberNet Official Roleplaying Soundtrack & Deterioration Furthers, Songs From & Inspired by The Charnel Gospel). Enjoy! Dak Lander
Originally posted by kylen: [b] This song is St. James Infirmary and is kind of a blues song I think you would say. Phait
"thank you: nice sound, unique ideas, very uncomfortable, but in a way that sounds inteneded and i likt it despite not being kinda thing - because of your other thread about "producers" i did go and check what botch liked, 'winter', and i have to say i didn't like that one as much as thank you, mainly because of length vs diversity. but it still displayed some nice qualities all round - i have the same tendency." I was actually hesitant to put "thank you" up because I knew it was not my best guitar work - it didn't have a good flow that it did in my firstt or 2nd try recording it... it wasnt actually meant to be uncomfortable, heh. I don't know, I don't like much of the music I have up there. But thanks for checking it out.
songrytr
Well, here goes...I've been hanging out here a while now and I think I've got my confidence up enough to request some feedback on one of my songs. The song is called "Closer to Never." It's a song about bitterness in a dusty, smoggy Southern California suburb. I've had the honor to work with the locally (in)famous Phil O'Keefe who engineered and produced and played bass, guitars and drums. We were helped out on guitars by our good friend and partner John McGill. From the soon-to-be-released EP on the Lurker imprint. :D Closer To Never (128k MP3) this house is empty now... flyscots
Songrytr & Phil Sorry it took me a while to get to this, I'm not on here as much as I used to be. Very good job. There isn't really anything wrong with it as far as I can tell. Maybe bring the organ up a little bit, but not too much. The song isn't really my kind of thing but I appreciate good work when I hear it and this is good work, well done. John

kylen
We did this one while we were living in Kansas City a while back. It's a home recording of 'Things We Said Today' by the Beatles. It's rather nasty as I was in a noisey mood that day. Also I lost part of the drums when my 8-track went out of alignment - haha real homebrew! I'm playing machines & guitars, Rose is singing and I asked her something about her Dad right before I hit record so it's all pretty loose ! It ain't nothin but a party, hehe ! WFTurner
Halljams nice interesting piece with lots of interesting themes, nice modulations with nice twists and paths when you make one. I've listened to this 5 times today and each time I like it more. Mix wise the only thing I would prefer is a little bit rounder bass tone... that's a pure personal taste on my part. Nice tune. You have a nice collection of soundscapes going on. Bet they sounds good in those new Adams. William F. WFTurner
kylen.... got a chance to listen to ST James Imfirmary. Nice blues mix. Love the tone and the playing.... ie the taste in what the guitarist chose to play... you?... The overall tone of the mix was sweet to my ears. The only suggest I have is EQ some softness in the vocal... just a bit... don't lose the clarity... just roll of some himids maybe to get her to sit just a tad back in the mix. Great recording. Once again I'm amazed at the good stuff that can be found by checkin folks out in these forums. Your other tune just finished DLing but it's to late here to give it a good listen. William F. We have been tracking this tune forever and setting volumes as we go and that is where it stands right now, we have yet to seriously visit mixing it. That version you heard had some quick mastering on it, we used a tape saturation emulator and when it went through the mp3 process it got REAL weird in the top end. Anyway, there is a more tame version on there now but it has some problems in the midrange  . Oh well, you got the idea. :D I have downoaded a bunch of stuff from hear(get it) and am on my way to check it out now. halljams
Here is my take on some postings here: Alcohol- Good band and a cool tune, nicely arranged. Minor things i noticed are i found the bass a bit too loud and the second clean guitar in the last breakdown souned out of place, the first sound there was cool. Khan- mms wow, great band. nice drum sounds Very clean mix vox a tad low for my liking out of phase strat sounded too dry(direct) I want to play with that drummer! NT This is great stuff Khan. I like the clicky bass and kik! Verb sounded a bit fake on all vox, maby some more pre delay would help too?? Same complaint on the clean out of phase strat sound otherwise great guitar sounds! kylen- St james. I love you guyz version of this, real cool. The band sound reminds me of Natalie Merchant's Motherland album. Have you got that one, you should get that one, it's AWESOME. This is a great mix man, good job. Things we said- Well there are some things about this that make it sound a bit unfinished. The vox gets a bit harsh at times, like when she is doubling especially. the bass seems to kinda come an go a bit, a bit too round for me too. The guitar volumes at the top and sometimes when the acoustic come in are a bit overbearing. And i can't figure out if you are trying hide the drum machine or not but it sounds like it. Good guitar sounds though and nice ideas too. No talent bum- Hellnecstacy Wow that's loud. Great tune, great performance. I don't know how much your loudness thing has messed up your mix but i'd like to hear an "unmastered version". On this version the lows are inconsistent and pumpy(in a slow way) and the vox is just in another world from the rest of the mix tonally, and perhaps because the loudness maxing brought up the ambience too much, it doesn't seem to be in a space that relates. The guitar solo is buried, the drums sound kinda scooped and overbearing. I suspect this was a really good mix before all this maximizing. Please take that shit off and let people hear your music, it is very good. Songryter- Great stuff. I dig this tune and the singer. My only complaint is the lead vox sound a bit dwarfed and midrangy possibly due to the huge bass. In fact i think if you just dropped the bass volume a bit it would help the mix alot. there is an overall midrange 1-4k boost to the mix that i think is a bit much too. Will- Surfin is cool. nice ideas. very punchy mix too and quite hifi at that. I have a suggestion for some of those midi sounds, especially the brass... run that shit through some grit! A tube preamp, a distortion pedal, or go get Voxengo's Warmifier, i think that plug would do wonders for your mixes. Nice stuff The Fading I love the way in your tunes, the'll be going along and you'll play these bizarre little chromatic ideas, i just crap myself, love it! It adds such character. good mix, bass is good on both tunes. Nice tunes Will. Check out SUPERVIBE
