harmonizer
Great thread! Here are a few nominations to add: - George Harrison's guitar solo in "Something" - horn part at the climax of BS&T's "You've Made Me So Very Happy" - the repeated melodic phrases (mostly 6 and 13 notes long) at the end of Stravinsky's Firebird - the eighth-note moving guitar part throughout the song "Get Together" (Youngbloods) - Billy Joel's rapid fire blast on "C" for the start of "Angry Young Man"

Dave Pierce
How about the organ part on BB King's "Bad Case Of Love"? That tune is just a 12-bar blues, but the part makes it pretty recoginizable, right from the intro... This is a cool thread. --Dave Make my funk the P-funk. I wants to get funked up. I also like the guitar part on the chorus of Radiohead's "Bullet Proof". Very Sweet.

Cliffk
What about the bass/strings riff in Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean". Come to that, isn't Toto responsible for the intro synth figure in "Human Nature", also immediately recognisable? Also, the opening guitar riff in "Stayin' Alive". Hey, what about single intro chords/notes from which a tune is instantly recognizable? I'm thinking "A Hard Day's Night". YouTube music
Botch
Has no one mentioned the Minimoog solo on Heart's "Magic Man"? If that song comes on the radio as I'm parking the car, I'll sit and listen to it all the way through. Two signature sounds on the same song: The perfect-fifths guitar solo on Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart", and the first-heard (I think) orchestra hits on the same tune. The Son of Two signature sounds on the same song: the call-and-response between Skunk's guitar and the tasty brass chart on the Dan's "My Old School". skykeys
I'm really enjoying all of the great posts here. I agree with everything. I'll add the following keyboard parts, which I didn't see mentioned so far, (or missed them if they were): Organ solo on Argent's "Hold your head up". Organ on the instrumental intro to "Long Time", from the first Boston album. Wurlitzer part in Rod Stewart's "Stay with Me", (by Ian McLagen I think) Keith Emerson's Moog riff at the end of "From the Beginning", off of the ELP Trilogy album. The great piano intro (and subsequent keyboard work) by Tony Banks on "Firth of Fifth", from the Genesis- Selling England By The Pound album. (One of my personal all time favorite albums and pieces of music). The jazzy piano intro to "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is", from the first Chicago (Transit Authority) album. The intro piano part that leads off George Harrison's "My Guitar Gently Weeps". (You must see the Concert for George CD/DVD for an absolutely terrific version of this song. Clapton's guitar riff at the end is stunning.) The Rhodes lick at the end of Steely Dan's "Chain Lightning", from the superb Katy Lied album - another one of my favorite albums. The Rhodes solo in "Affirmation", from George Benson's very fine Masquerade album. Rhodes intro on "Minute By Minute", from the Doobie Brothers album of the same name, and piano intro on "Here To Love You" from the same great album. And of course, Chuck Leavell's great piano solo on "Jessica", from The Allman Brothers classic album - Brothers and Sisters. ------------------------------------------------ Regards.
