lastresort001aol.com
I remember the first melody I learned to play was AH-Ha "Take on Me", the first complete song I remember playing, "Street Spirit" Radiohead. I don't know why these two. It just kind of happened that way.
Mark Zeger
"Color My World" was the first pop/rock song I could play after lessons. Before lessons, it was probably "Heart and Soul" or each hand separately on "Linus and Lucy".

Guest
I think I was 9 or 10 years and I got a book with "simple songs for keyboards" that I started to learn.I have no clue what song it was that I first played. It was on a Phillips Phillicord organ though. My sister still have that organ but I think it's starting to fall apart. The amplifier on the organ was the first I used with my first synth. And boy, what nice sound it was. Because of the spring reverb! --------------------Smedis,--
Rod S
My 1st memory of learning songs is with my dad in a piano at a hotel lounge. We had just moved to a new city (new country actually), and I was bored out of my mind. We were staying at this hotel till my parents found an apt, so my dad sat one day and taught me a couple of songs at the piano (he's actually a guitar player, but has an amazing ear so he can usually figure out simple melodies on the fly). I won't mention names since they are a couple of brazilian traditional 'kid' songs, but that was definetly the 1st time for me. The lounge was hardly ever used during the day, so the hotel guys were nice enough to let me sit there hammering away (I was 8 at the time) Korg Kronos X73 / ARP Odyssey / Motif ES Rack / Roland D-05 / JP-08 / SE-05 / Jupiter Xm / Novation Mininova / NL2X / Waldorf Pulse II MBP-LOGIC American Deluxe P-Bass, Yamaha RBX760
Krakit
I was working on three peices all at the same time. I probably got them done simultaneously. Piano Man - Billy JoelTheme to Star Wars - John WilliamsThe Entertainer - Scott Joplin I had a Univox Compac and there was a piano at school for me to practice on. I was supposed to be learning "Flight of the Bumblebee" but I never got far with it. marino
The first bunch of songs I learned were Italian "pop" songs, and I don't think their titles would tell anything to Americans. But the main thing is, I learned them on the organ and guitar at the same time, so by comparing the two instruments, I started to figure out how chords worked.I was about 8, and very curious. So when I started real piano lessons a couple of years later, I already knew all the scales, chords and inversions! marino
MusicaL
Boy this goes way back: 196*? First song I ever played was either "doe a deer" from the sound of music or an obscure pop ballad who's composer I cannot remember called "Symapthy" that had a dimished chord that I thought was really cool. Bucktunes
Outside of the usual piano lesson fare? I think the first song I taught myself was Elton John's "Skyline Pigeon" from his "Here And There" live album. (On 8-track, no less!) The flowing arpeggios intrigued me. To practice it, I had to keep waiting for the track on the tape to finish so I could switch it back to track one and run it again! How did we ever live before CD's?! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Peace all,Steve This message has been edited by SWBuck1074@aol.com on 07-10-2001 at 09:13 PM This message has been edited by SWBuck1074@aol.com on 07-10-2001 at 09:14 PM ><> Steve
Magpel
Still can't play any songs on the keyboard other than the doo-dads I write! So, here at age 38, my first true keyboard song is yet to come. I'm hoping it'll be something by Liszt... John Check out the Sweet Clementines CD at bandcamp
Dave Bryce
I think mine was "Do You Know the Way to San Jose", which I picked out on the black notes of the piano when I was really young. At least, that's the first one I remember playing... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <==
