Why didn't you make it a white Mellotron?

I remember the "white painted Mellotron" look - yeuch

Especially after it had had seven bells knocked out of it!

That looks great! What is it made from? And does it fold up at all for transport?

I acquired it from a guy who made it to accommodate two XK3's.

They were a friction fit into a support bar on either side - it had a piece of strap across the front to stop it springing apart.

As it is too big for the SK2 I couldn't do that (wouldn't anyway) so decided to fit two shelves (hence the black paint!).

And yes, take out the two shelves and the sides fold in

I'll take another pic on Saturday when it is ready for action with the two keyboards installed.

But but...

Tony played a T, not a C!!! ;)

Well an L122 at first, then a T.

It has been cut down in height......... :)

Gotta ask. . . what are those huge handles for? So it all folds up, presumably the sides fold in across the back? At least from the pic, seems like its not a good place to carry the folded unit from.

Looks great. I think I saw that on eBay and YouTube before the guy sold it.

It actually inspired me to build my own version (after I contacted the company who built it and didn't get a reply). It doesn't look as slick as yours. Don't know if these links work but this is what my stand looks like:

One could save weight by just having aluminum bars across to support the keyboards. No need for all that wood.

But that would minimize the authenticity of back-breaking Hammond weight....

I'm sure it is heavy though--not like an organ, but still heavy.

Thanks guys - it weighs about 20Kg and the shelves detach, so perfectly liftable into the band van.......

Yes it was on EBay and you have got the drift with yours!

It cost me £140 which is less than the cost of the wood!

Very cool! I've often though of building something similar. I feel that most modern keyboard rigs just don't look that good from the audience's perspective, if you're facing the audience, all they see is that back panels and a bunch of cables.

Yeah that was my feeling. I use a Novation controller keyboard connected to a V-Machine running VB3 which wouldn't have much prescence on stage. And actually sitting behind an organ-like stand makes it feel a bit more authentic and I think I play with a bit more attitude.

This thread is inspiring.

I'm so tempted to buy this now:
