  1. On the studio version, sounds to me like there's no keys, except on the first verse there's a stabbed chord on beat 4 of every other bar. On later verses sounds like the horns take over that job. So laying out would work well. Also, do you have two guitarists? If not, there's two guitar parts on much of the verse (chords, and single notes), and you could cover one of those.
  2. Very detailed info now online at Sweetwater: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MoogOne8--moog-one-8-voice-analog-synthesizer
  3. As sampled to great effect by DJ Shadow!
  4. Big Donny fan here as well! And we can't mention Lalah without this video - I just love the reaction of the Snarky Puppy guys around 6:00 (and I imagine they're not easily impressed...): [video:youtube]

    SP6

    It's actually at http://ksetlist.com
  6. User manual now available: http://www.crumar.it/?a=support&b=36 Huge amounts of detail in here... including the helpful advice not to try and insert your whole arm in the accessory tray. Couple of things I spotted: the 'pad' is described as a VA synth, and you can connect a USB MIDI controller if you want, as there is no old-school 5-pin MIDI IN.
  7. Weight (piano only): 15 Kg 33 lbs Weight with cover and legs: 23,5 Kg 51,8 lbs http://www.crumar.it/?a=showproduct&b=36&w=specs
  8. Another option is just to use two stands, one for each board - I've done this before with two X stands
  9. Definitely. But presumably some things like the SP4-8 are just there until they have stock of the SP1 and SP6?
  10. Just picked up a Korg Kross off eBay for my new covers band - something affordable and light that'll still let me do lots of complicated splits and layers.
  11. In case we forgot just how good Prince was as a keyboard player... [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ7qGz4eu3g
  12. Full album now streaming on NPR... http://www.npr.org/2016/04/19/474878387/first-listen-snarky-puppy-culcha-vulcha Sounding good one track in.
  13. Looking forward to the new Bill Laurance CD out tomorrow...
  14. I've got the Limina book, and I'd recommend it - it seems well-targeted at pianists who can read music. It also assumes zero knowledge of Hammonds and explains all the jargon, which I found particularly helpful.
  15. Rock Band keytar: ... which is actually surprisingly good quality! And a complete bargain now that old/new stocks are being sold off.
  16. Great, looking forward to it. For questions how about: 1. How does it work out having 2+ keys guys in the band in terms of arrangements, sounds etc? 2. Who chooses gear and sounds?
  17. And thinking about the other current thread on the economics of live music... this picture gives me hope that there's an appetite for gig-going - Snarky Puppy's sold out gig in London last week, 3300 people:
  18. Thanks Moray, I've been tempted to try and use my Kindle to hold PDFs (I know a lot of people use tablets), but it just seems to be too small. It is a lifesaver for carrying round PDFs of big, bulky keyboard user manuals...
  19. Great playing, Moray. Can I ask, is that a Kindle you've got on your Fantom? Are you reading parts off it while you're playing?
  20. Thanks John, I thought it looked familiar Just picking up the little detail, though, about the P50m being in previous rigs, not the current/new setup.
  21. I can't find the original reference to the P50m that I'm thinking of (or I'm imaging??!!!), I'm afraid, but have a look at this 2012 video on Keyboard Mag with Marty Gelhaar: http://www.keyboardmag.com/artists/1236/tech-of-the-bruce-springsteen-tour-2012/28765 At about 1:10, he mentions Yamaha P50 modules and says these are "what we used for many years for piano." He says they really liked the way the P50 cuts through the band, but they "loop really quickly", hence the switch to Ivory.
  22. That sounds great! Nice playing. I remember reading a reference to the P50m in Keyboard mag, or in one of their videos a few years ago. Unfortunately, I can't track it down now, and Google only leads me to my own comments on this forum in 2012!
  23. Long time lurker on this thread, first time poster here... wanted to share my progress. Since January I've been following the Couch-to-5k program. It's supposed to be 9 weeks, but I've had lots of interruptions and lack of progress, but I've stuck with it. And I really was starting from scratch (jogging 1 minute at the start felt difficult!). Today, I ran 5km (without stopping) for the first time in my life. On a treadmill at 8.5km/h, so it took me just over 35 minutes (I think that's about 11:22 pace for a mile, as best I can work it out). Now I need to start running outside to make it a little more interesting! We also have regular weekly 'park run' events here where you can turn up and run a timed 5k in an organised group, so doing that is my next target.
  24. For the techies... Xilinx (who make the FPGA processor in the HX3) have posted a story about it on their blog: http://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Xcell-Daily-Blog/Physical-modeling-in-a-low-end-FPGA-recreates-the-classic-sound/ba-p/482088
